Kazuna and Kagura go on a Date

2420 Words
Over the next couple of days, Kagura noticed that Kazuna had gone back to normal. He stopped letting Ria pull him around and he stopped avoiding conversation between them. She started to realize how little Kazuna understood emotions and other people.  Then, finally, Saturday had come. Kagura was in her room and she was fretting over what to wear. "No, that's too bland, too girly, too tomboyish," She says as she rummages through her closet. "Still trying to figure out what to wear for your date?" Her mother asks as she stands in the doorway. "I-It's not a d-date, just an outing between friends," Kagura replies as she tosses another outfit to the side. "Between a boy and a girl and you're worried about what to wear, sounds like a date to me," Her mother replies. Kagura's face goes red as she continues to silently sift through her clothes. Her mother sighs as she grabs an outfit. "Why not wear this? It's cute, casual, and doesn't make it look like you're trying to catch his eye," Her mother suggests. "But," Kagura mutters. "No complaints, besides, if you keep on like this, you'll be late," She says. Kagura looks between her mother and what she picked out before giving in and changing into it and leaving for the train station. Once she reaches the plaza, she can see Kazuna waiting for her. He was wearing blue jeans and a simple tee shirt. "Sorry, were you waiting long?" She asks as she walks towards him. "No, I only got here a couple of minutes ago," He replies. So you weren't waiting?" She asks a bit unsure. "My grandfather always told me to be on time never early or late. You don't want to seem overeager or like you don't care," He adds. "Oh," She replies, not really sure what to make of the comment. Kagura looks at her feet and brushes her dress. "So, umm, what do you think?" She asks, slightly blushing. "I'd have to agree with my grandfather," Kazuna replies. "Wha-, no, what do you think about my clothes?" She clarifies. "Oh," Kazuna breathes.  He takes a good look at Kagura. She had on a pink cropped blouse, blue jeans, and she had let her hair down.  "I think you look great. The pink compliments your eyes very well." He states. Kagura's face gets redder than a tomato and she fiddles with her hands. "Th-thank you," She mumbles. "He really thinks I look cute," She thinks to herself as a smile creeps onto her face. "So, umm, where to first?" Kazuna asks. His voice snapped Kagura out of her trance. "Oh, right, we're going to eat at the same place we ate at before the Coalition Festival," She states as she starts to walk. "Oh, that place," He says as he follows her towards The Silver Mug.  They walk side by side in silence. "Come on Kagura, think of something to say," She tells herself.  She looks over at him, trying to think of a topic. "I know he's had that scar the whole time, but I didn't know it was so deep. I wonder when he got it and who gave it to him," She wonders. "I'm sorry for not talking that much, I'm not very good at picking interesting topics." Kazuna apologizes. Kagura realizes that she had been staring at him and turns forward. "That's okay. How about I ask something?" She suggests. "Go ahead," Kazuna says. "That scar on your face, what's the story behind it?" She asks. Kazuna places a hand on the scar. "I got this from Zer," He states. "Oh, sorry. You don't have to talk about it if it's a sensitive topic." She says. "No, it's fine. The scar on my face is actually a small portion of it. The rest is across my chest," He adds. "Really?" She asks. Kazuna nods. "It was during a mission. I was told that some people had kidn*pped some members of my clan and were using them for some kind of research and when I went to rescue them, I ran into Zer," He continues. "So that's how Zer knew you," Kagura gathers. "I assume so. I can only imagine what he did to my subordinates for him to get as much information as he had," He states. They arrive at The Silver Mug just as Kazuna finishes his sentence. They head in and get a table for two. "So you have a personal grudge against Zer." Kagura states. "Yes, but it's not just because of those things," Kazuna explains. "It's not?" Kagura asks. Kazuna shakes his head. "Zer was the man that killed my grandfather," He says. Kagura looks down at her lap, feeling like she led him into a conversation that he didn't want to have. "Don't worry, you haven't said anything wrong, in fact, I wanted to talk about my grandfather with you anyway," He says, alleviating Kagura from feeling bad. "What was he like?" She asks. "It was a tale of two men. If you asked some of the older members of my clan, they'll remember him as a cold ruthless leader. But, if you asked me, he was the person I admired more than anyone. He was strong, kind, smart, funny, and forgiving. He was also the reason that I decided to come to GA.” Kazuna states. "Really?" Kagura asks. "He always told me 'Kazuna, one day, I hope you'll be able to go to school like a normal kid, have normal friends, do normal things, and live a normal life.' I was always content being an assassin, but I knew that he would feel like he failed if I didn't make his wish come true," He adds. "So it wasn't so you could become a special agent?" She asks. "I never really gave much thought to it to be honest." He answers. There was a brief moment of silence before Kazuna spoke again. "What about your father? Your mother has spoken about him in great length, but I haven't heard your thoughts," Kazuna notes. "From what I can tell, he was a lot like your grandfather, although he might not have been as funny. He thought that it would have been funny to tell me that I would never find a boyfriend if I kept acting so stiff," She says with a pout. Kazuna chuckles a little. "My grandfather's go-to was no girl would want a guy that couldn’t even tell what she was thinking," He says. "I'm sure they would have gotten along," Kagura states. There was an almost awkward silence between the two that was broken by the waitress. "Are you two ready to order?" She asks. "Yes, I-," Kagura starts but can't help notice that their waitress was someone they knew. "Mia? Is that you?" Kagura asks. Mia's eyes grow larger as she realizes who she had spoken to. "K-Kagura, K-Kazuna?" She stutters from embarrassment. "I didn't know you worked here," Kazuna states. "That was the point, I didn't want anyone to know that I was a waitress," Mia exclaims. "What's wrong with being a waitress?" Kazuna asks. "It's like being someone's servant," Mia explains. "If that's how you see it," Kazuna says. "Whatever you want to call it. Anyway, what do you want?" She asks "Then I'll have the steak and broccoli," Kazuna says. "I'll take the curry," Kagura states. "Drinks?" Mia asks. "Water." Kazuna replies. "Same," Kagura says. "Alright, I'll be back shortly. Enjoy your date," Mia says. "It's not-," Kagura tries to explain but Mia had already walked away. Kagura looks at the table then at Kazuna. "I wonder if we look like a couple to other people?" She thinks to herself as she looks at the other people at the restaurant. Kagura looks at Kazuna and realizes that they hadn't said anything to each other in a while, so she decided to ask another question. "Are you a steak person?" She asks. "Not particularly, but Ria made some awful steak the other day so I wanted to eat some well-made steak instead." He answers. "How did you meet Ria?" She asks. "My grandfather had brought her home one day. Apparently, she had been kidn*pped and was being forced to use her power to steal from people," Kazuna answers.  "So, she's like a sister to you?" Kagura asks. "No, I wouldn't say that. But she is someone that I knew I wanted to protect ever since I heard about her origins," He replies. "You know, you always label yourself as a bad person, but no matter how you slice it, you're a good person," Kagura states. Mia returns with their drinks and quickly leaves. Kazuna takes a sip of his water. "You really think so?" He asks. "I do. You may have killed people and that's a sin that you'll have to live with for the rest of your life, but it wasn't out of enjoyment, but a desire to do good. It may have been a pretty warped direction, but you truly wanted to protect people and you've spent so much time helping us. You even risked your life to keep us safe when Zer attacked," Kagura states. "I'm not so sure," Kazuna deflects. "You know what I think? I think you keep labeling yourself as a bad person so that you can't forgive yourself for the things you've done. But I think that you're going about it in the wrong way," Kagura theorizes.  "What do you mean?" Kazuna asks. "You came to GA because that's what your grandfather wanted, right?" Kagura asks. "Right," Kazuna answers. "Well, since you're here, why don't you try and become a special agent?" Kagura asks. "Become a special agent?" Kazuna echos surprised at the idea. "Yeah, you have the strength, experience, and intellect to be one of the best special agents ever. Not only that, but you can atone for the things you've done in your past by saving people," Kagura explains. "I don't know," Kazuna says, a bit unsure. "It sounds like a great idea to me," Bahamut says. "A noble profession," Karma adds. "What are you two doing, you know you're not supposed to be talking in public," Kazuna says. "Why?" Kagura asks. "Because they're technically a government secret," Kazuna explains. "Wha- should a bunch of high school students know about them?" Kagura asks a bit worried. "As long as the American government doesn't find out you should be fine," Kazuna answers a little too nonchalantly for Kagura's taste. Mia arrives with their food and distributes it. "Thank you," the pair reply in unison. Mia nods and promptly leaves. Kazuna cuts off a piece of his steak and eats it. "Ria really is a bad cook," He says to himself. "So?" Kagura asks. "So?" Kazuna echos. "Uh, so will you try and become a special agent?" She asks. Kazuna plays with his broccoli a bit. "I don't know, I'm not very good at the saving people thing," Kazuna says. "Then get good at it. You'll be able to get the hang of it easily," Kagura states. "But,-" Kazuna tries but Kagura interrupts him. "But nothing. You're going to at least give it a try, I mean, if you're not going to go back to being an assassin, then what else is there for you to do?" Kagura asks. "I'll think it over," Kazuna says. "Hmm," Kagura grumbles with a pout. "Enough about me, I have a question for you," Kazuna says in an attempt to change the subject. "What's that?" She asks. "Do you like me?" He asks. Kagura nearly chokes on her food. She starts coughing and starts drinking her water. "Are you ok?" He asks. "Y-Yeah, you just surprised me, um, could could you explain?" She asks. "Well, most people that have a history with me tend to have hate and animosity for me. I just wanted to know if the same could be said for you?" he elaborates. Kagura finishes drinking her water and gently sets it down. "Well, I had always thought that there was more to my father's death than what my mother was telling me, but hearing that he was murdered did come as a shock. But I don't have any ill feelings towards you strangely enough. Whenever I thought of my father being murdered, I could feel the anger well up inside me, but when I imagined you, my father's killer, that anger didn’t necessarily go away, more like it became a little less infuriating." Kagura says. Kazuna looks at her for a moment. She could feel his eyes analyzing her and it made her feel embarrassed. "Your mother was right, you are weird," He concludes. "Wha-, here I am, telling you how I feel and you insult me?" Kagura exclaims. Kazuna chuckles. "Sorry, I didn't mean it as an insult," Kazuna says. The pair finish their meal with Kagura complaining to Kazuna and Kazuna teasing her. They pay for their food and leave the restaurant where Kagura leads Kazuna to a parkside bench. "You know, I think I've learned more about you today than I did from all the time before," Kagura notes. They sit in silence for a brief moment. "You were wrong you know," Kazuna says out of nowhere. "Wrong about what?" Kagura asks. "Wrong about me not trusting you. I did and still do trust you," He states. "Then why did you try and do everything on your own?" She asks. "I didn't want to put you all in danger although that didn't seem to work," Kazuna says. "Of course it didn't, we weren't going to let you sacrifice yourself." Kagura states. "Surrounded by idiots," Kazuna says. "Says the i***t that nearly got himself killed," Kagura barks. "Hmph, you may have a point," Kazuna says in agreement. They once again sit in silence. Kagura had one more thing that was bugging her, but she wasn't sure if she should bring it up. She looks at Kazuna. "I came up with this idea to learn more about him, I can't let this opportunity slide," she says to herself. "There's something that's been on my mind," She says. "What's that?" Kazuna asks. "What, what's this destiny of yours? I've heard your mother talk about it, but she didn't seem to know much about it," She says. She looks at Kazuna and almost regrets asking that. The look on his face clearly showed how much he didn't want to talk about it.
