Chapter 4

"Why not? I built the bonfire and gathered the food. What's wrong with taking back my own food? If you're all so capable that you drove me away, why don't you find your own food?" Randy almost laughed out of anger at her audacity. Looking at the food Randy had taken, Bonnie clung to her last shred of hope and said, "Randy, I'm your fiancée. What's wrong with me eating a little of your food?" Bonnie's self-righteous tone completely infuriated Randy, making him laugh in disbelief. "What are you laughing at?" Bonnie's face darkened when she saw him laughing instead of giving her the food. "I'm laughing at how shameless you are. You're the one who slept with Andrew and betrayed me, and you still have the nerve to bring up being my fiancée? Why should I share my food with you? Didn't you say you'd bankrupt me once we got back? Weren't you so arrogant? You kicked me out, so have some dignity and find your own food! If you starve, what does that have to do with me?" Randy didn't care whether Bonnie would starve to death. He had completely seen through her selfish and malicious nature and couldn't possibly share his food with her. Bonnie ignored Randy's mockery and angrily retorted, "Randy, you're so petty! We were in love for three years!" "Three years of love, and you have no regard for it at all? Fine, I did sleep with someone else, but I still love you. I'll stop seeing Andrew from now on. I'm still your fiancée. Why can't you just help me out this once?" Bonnie pressed on, trying to evoke Randy's memories of their past happiness. Hearing her words only made Randy feel disgusted. Unable to endure it any longer, he raised his hand and slapped her across the face. A crisp, loud smack echoed in the air. He had never hit a woman before, but this time, he made an exception. Everyone around was stunned, shocked that Randy had actually dared to hit her. Bonnie held her face, staring at Randy in disbelief, her eyes filled with venomous resentment. Randy spoke coldly, "Have you woken up now? If not, I can slap you again, you shameless b*tch! Don't talk to me about our past relationship. Back then, I was foolish to believe your lies. Let me warn you, Bonnie, from now on, there's nothing between us anymore. If you don't get lost right now, I swear I'll strangle you!" As soon as he finished speaking, two other women rushed forward to hold Bonnie back, glaring at Randy and accusing him, "All this over a little food? Did you really have to hit a woman? Do you even have any shame?" "How can you beat a woman? No wonder your fiancée cheated on you. You're so pathetic!" Randy couldn't care less about their nonsense. "Get lost! I don't wanna see your stupid faces again!" Perhaps because she felt guilty about what had happened, Isabella didn't signal the man to stop Randy. She simply held the oysters in her hands, feeling as if they were burning hot. After all, as the daughter of an earl, she had never done something as shameless as stealing. But since she had already eaten half, was she supposed to spit it out? However, seeing the situation escalate further, Isabella had to stand up and say to Randy, "We didn't know this was your food. But since we've already eaten it, apologizing is out of the question. At most, we'll repay you with the same amount tomorrow." Hearing this, the two women were displeased and shouted, "Why should we? We didn't eat that much of his food. Why should we repay him with a whole portion?" At this moment, the man, who had been silent, stepped forward, crossing his arms and standing protectively in front of Isabella. His presence alone silenced everyone else. Randy pointed at Isabella and said coldly, "There's no need for you to repay me. Now, take your people and get out!" After speaking, Isabella snorted coldly and left the beach with her group. Once they were far away, Adela, who had been quietly staying by Randy's side, cautiously glanced at him, secretly relieved that she had made the right decision. If she had been a moment late and stayed with them, she would probably have been kicked out by Randy as well. Seeing Adela lost in thought, Randy called out to her, "Stop staring blankly. We should get going too." "What?" Adela looked at Randy in confusion. "You just reclaimed this beach. Why are we leaving?" As Randy gathered his fire-starting tools, he replied, "The beach isn't suitable for settling down. It gets really cold by the sea at night, and there's no shelter from the wind and rain. Let's take advantage of the moonlight and move further inland. Maybe we'll find a better place to sleep." Adela nodded, realizing she had asked a silly question. She stepped forward to help. There wasn't much they could take with them anyway. Both of them held torches, carrying the last bit of food they had, heading in the opposite direction of Isabella's group. "Since we're looking for a settlement, it's best if there's a freshwater source nearby. The location should also be higher up for better visibility and to keep poisonous snakes and insects away," Adela said as she walked, sharing her thoughts. She had followed similar principles when camping with friends before. "Yeah, the terrain ahead seems a bit higher. Maybe we'll find a suitable spot for a settlement there," Randy nodded in agreement. The two stopped talking and continued walking, but they couldn't find a place suitable for settling down. As the sky grew darker, they quickened their pace, holding their torches high. They had to find a place to stay before midnight. Who knew what dangers might appear at night? Finally, after two hours of walking, Randy found a suitable spot in a small raised hollow. It was a little cave. It wasn't very big, but there wasn't a better place nearby. Randy stopped and said, "Let's stay here for the night. If we can find freshwater nearby tomorrow, we'll settle here for now. If not, we'll have to keep looking. You go into the cave and tidy up a bit. I'll gather some dry grass and firewood nearby." Adela didn't complain. "No problem. I'll get started. But Randy, can you come back soon and not go too far? Otherwise, I'll be scared!" Randy nodded and walked toward the edge of the forest with his torch. He didn't go too deep, only picking up dry branches and sticks. After two or three trips, he figured they had enough firewood to last until morning. At that moment, Adela came out of the cave. "I've cleaned it up. We can stay here tonight. I also found some dry grass to lay on the ground, so it'll be a bit more comfortable to sleep." "Alright, but there's one more thing. I saw some coconut trees over there. Hold the torch for me, and I'll grab a few coconuts," Randy said, looking up at the trees.
