Chapter 6

"D*mn it, I think I twisted my ankle!" Melia cried out in pain, panic creeping into her voice. "Help me, please!" Her tone was filled with fear, as if terrified that Randy might leave her behind. Her cries snapped Randy back to his senses. Although he was still furious at Melia and her group for their baseless accusations and unfair criticism of him, he briefly considered walking away to let her suffer the consequences. However, such a childish and impulsive act would be unwise. If no one else discovered this water source, Melia could truly end up dying here. As a soldier, Randy couldn't bring himself to let someone die because of a fleeting thought or decision. After all, it was still a human life, and on top of that, it was Melia who had led him to this water source. She had fallen in because of him. Just as Randy was about to lend a hand, Melia, still stuck in the waterhole and not hearing any response from him, began to panic. "Randy, are you there? Did you leave? Randy, don't go! Please say something! I'm sorry. I shouldn't have accused you without reason. Please don't abandon me!" Melia's voice trembled with fear. She was stuck in the waterhole with a twisted ankle, and in her current condition, there was no way she could get out on her own. If Randy really left, she would die here. Thinking about this, she started crying helplessly. At that moment, Randy leaned his head over and said, "Stop crying. I haven't left." Melia immediately stopped sobbing. "Then please, think of a way to get me out of here," she pleaded, her tone soft and careful, terrified of saying something that might offend Randy. Randy tried to pull Melia out by reaching down, but it wasn't working. With her ankle injured, she couldn't even stand up, and his arm couldn't reach her. Moreover, the edges of the waterhole were covered in moss from years of water erosion, making it extremely slippery. Randy couldn't get enough leverage while lying there. After several attempts, Randy had no choice but to give up. "Don't leave!" Melia panicked when she saw Randy pull his hand back. "I'm going to find a long branch. Wait here for a bit," Randy said calmly before turning and walking toward a nearby tree. Scanning the area, he found a sturdy, long branch and, using all his strength, snapped it off. After removing the excess twigs and leaves, leaving only the slim, long trunk, Randy returned to the waterhole. "Grab the branch, and I'll pull you up," Randy called down to Melia, lowering the branch into the hole. Melia quickly grabbed onto the branch, but it was still a bit short. Randy had to crouch down, being cautious of the slippery ground, which made it hard for him to use his full strength. Fortunately, Melia wasn't too heavy, and Randy slowly managed to pull her up bit by bit. Just as she was about to make it out, Randy suddenly felt a hard kick to his back! He had no time to react before both he and Melia, who was almost out, tumbled back into the hole together. Randy was instantly furious. He looked up angrily and saw Bonnie standing at the edge of the hole. She was the one who had kicked him. "It was you!" Randy roared in anger. He couldn't believe Bonnie would do something so malicious while he was trying to save someone. Didn't she realize that this act was no different from attempted murder? Melia, already in pain from her twisted ankle, had fallen again and was crying from the agony. When she heard Randy's words, she looked up in disbelief. Sure enough, she saw Bonnie standing there. "Bonnie, what are you doing? Randy was trying to save me! Why would you do this?" Melia's voice was filled with confusion, unable to comprehend Bonnie's intentions. After all, in Melia's view, while there was certainly hatred between Bonnie and Randy, it hadn't reached the point of mutual destruction. Bonnie had always been telling her that Randy was a violent maniac and a murderer. But from her perspective, Randy had just tried to save her. He hadn't completely lost his humanity. Naturally, Melia believed that the relationship between Randy and Bonnie could still be resolved through a proper conversation. However, outside the pit, Bonnie paid little attention to Melia. With a provocative gaze and a smug expression, she looked at Randy and laughed triumphantly. "Randy, aren't you supposed to be very capable? How did you end up falling into this pit? Can't get out, huh? It's great. Just stay in there!" Hearing Bonnie's words, Melia seemed to have guessed what Bonnie was planning to do, but she still asked uncertainly, "Bonnie, you'll save us, right...?" Bonnie turned to Melia with an innocent expression and said regretfully, "I'm sorry, Melia. I can't get you out. This pit is too deep. You'll have to figure it out yourself." After saying that, Bonnie turned back to Randy with a smug grin and continued, "Aren't you so amazing? Didn't you want to kill me? Well, it looks like you've lost your chance now! I just don't get it. So what if I slept with Andrew and made a little mistake? Why can't you let it go? Why won't you forgive me?" She continued, "Yesterday, I ate your food, and you slapped me. Do you know how much that hurt my pride? Randy, you've changed! You're not the Randy you used to be! Since that's the case, just stay here and wait to die. Don't even think about me saving you! I'm telling you: it's impossible!" Melia was completely stunned. She never expected Bonnie to say something like that. Now, she could see Bonnie's true colors clearly and deeply regretted not listening to Randy's warnings yesterday.
