THAT-TOWN
These were the last words Sam and Alice heard before the tree sprung and they were shot up into the air. As they flew through the darkness they could see that the lightning had set fire to the whole of Thistown and it was burning from the centre to the Edge. The yellow of the corn shimmered in the light of the fires. Their old town was burning up and soon would be gone.
Alice reached for Sam as they flew. She wanted him to believe too, and as she felt his hand in hers, she knew he did. And as they came down towards the corn she knew it was going to be like the sun cone. They were going to disappear and they were going to......
“Sam!” It was the last thing Alice said for quite a time as they plummeted down and down through the yellow corn. They felt it whip against their faces.
