Kathleen turned on Amelia. “And what do you think you can do about it if we decide otherwise?”
“Do you want everyone in the village to know your husband is a r****t, Kathleen?” As Amelia said the word, Donald flinched, and Kathleen had the decency to go red.
“Beside, you’re forgetting I hold the mortgage on your house and can call it in at any time.”
“So it’s true.” Kathleen looked at Amelia, shocked.
“Strange how life works out Kathleen, my action was one of helping my fellow man, only for it to become leverage. It’s up to you Kathleen, do I call in the mortgage?” Kathleen said nothing, and Amelia left. Kathleen knew they didn’t have the money to pay Amelia back, and she dared not risk calling Amelia’s bluff, and she certainly didn’t want the village to know what Donald had done.
