Love Struck

As evening approached, Lena rang me, her voice dripping with excitement. “Are you ready?” she asked eagerly. “Not really,” I sputtered, examining my closet with my hands on my hips. “Come on! You have to look great for once. You never know maybe Mr. Sharpe has an equally charming son.” I rolled my eyes but smiled nonetheless. “Lena, it’s not a matchmaking dinner.” “Still, wear that blue dress; it'll make your eyes shine,” she teased. I sighed and complied. I put on a very simple yet elegant dress, and standing in front of the mirror, smoothing my dress, I felt a little flutter of confidence. Dinner snuck up on me faster than expected. Mom, Dad, and I climbed into the car, and the ride over to the Sharpe mansion was mostly quiet except for Mom humming a soft tune therein. The moment we rolled up to the grand estate, it took my breath away. The house was enormous, sporting tall white columns and large glass windows that glowed warmly against the evening sky. A butler welcomed us at the door and ushered us inside, where Mr. Sharpe awaited. He towered over most people, creating an almost intimidating appearance owing to his sharp features. Nonetheless, his smile was welcoming. "Welcome, Mr. and Mrs. Carter," he said, shaking my parents' hands before turning to me. "And you must be Ana." I nodded, suddenly feeling small under his gaze. "Come in, come out Morning came by quickly and after my morning jog I headed to the park, I had at least 6 hours before dinner a day I didn’t want to spend it overthinking in my room. I observed the little children, running around with no care and worry in the world and for a split second I wished I could go back to that age. I thought about my upcoming marriage to a stranger I’d never met and I had the strong desire to run so far away and never return but I knew I couldn’t do that, the consequences would come down on my father and ruin him, I had to stay, I had to marry him. It was pathetic, I was pathetic. I didn’t even realize I crying until I felt a hand on my shoulder. “Hey, are you alright?” The person asked. I looked up and saw a pair of deep blue eyes staring it me. His lashes were so extraordinarily long that if you looked at only his eyes you’d assume he was a girl, but his hard muscles peeping from his blue shirt contradicted he eyes. “Yeah I’m fine”. I said. “Are you sure?”. He said with an uncertain smile. I liked the way he smiled, it made him look like a little boy. I told him I was sure, I just had a little breakdown, that is was nothing really. He smiled that same way, nodding gently. “Well I could give you my number, and if you ever need someone to talk to you could always call”. He said. I reached into my pocket and gave him my phone, I heard the sing-song tone of the dialer before he gave it back to me. “Thank you...max” I said peering into the phone. “Your welcome?” “Anna”. “Anna.. what a lovely name, it’s a pleasure meeting you” he said taking my hand. “It was nice talking to you too” I said with a kind smile. “Take care” “I will”. And with that he left. It was close to evening when I got home, I quickly hurried to my room and had a quick bath because I was a little sweaty from being under the sun for long. I got out of the bathroom wearing my bath robe and searched the wardrobe looking for something appropriate to wear. I settled for a simple low-cut coral dress that hugged my hips. I paired it up with a pair of hoop earrings and a small pendant on my neck. I applied a little lipstick and mascara and was ready to go. I peered at my reflection in the dressing mirror, I looked okay. I was reaching out for my bag when I heard Mum call out to me. I let her know I was on my way and grabbed my purse and headed down. We drove for about 40 minutes before we arrived at the gates of the mansion. We ranged the com and the big gates opened. We drove for another 10 minutes before we arrived at the main house, Nine cars lined the driveway all of different makes. I could only recognize three as I wasn’t much of a car person ; One Lamborghini, One sports car and a Tesla. As we walked into the large entrance we were waiting on by a smart looking man dressed in a butlers uniform, he greeted us and showed us where to drop our coats before leading us to the dining area. It was unlike anything I’d seen before. It looked straight out of a movie. Big chandeliers hung from the ceiling so high I couldn’t see the end. The table was made of expensive wood and was polished to a golden brown. Compared to this house ours looked like a little cottage. There were three people already seated when we arrived. Mr and Mrs Sharpe whom I recognized from tv and magazines and their 12 year old daughter Faye. I looked around for my supposed fiancé but he was nowhere in sight. Mr and Mrs Sharpe got up and greeted us warmly, taking turns to hug me. “Isn’t she just beautiful?” I heard Mrs Sharpe exclaim to her husband. She certainly is” he replied, looking at me with a fatherly smile. I blushed shyly and took a seat next to mum. While we waited for the first course I say Mr Darion peering anxiously at his watch. Was carter going to show? Did he want nothing to do with me?. While I was deep in this thinking the first meal was brought. It consisted of some mashed potatoes, veggies and sauce. I normally enjoyed mashed potatoes but tonight my appetite was very slim. I picked up my fork and was forcing myself a few spoonfuls when the door the dining area burst open and he walked in. He was exactly what I’d imagined him to be, he looked the same as In the beach photo except he’d grown a little mustache that lined perfectly with his beard and made him look kind of Mexican. He walked to the table muttering apologies to my parents and his, saying something about the bad traffic.
