Elsie rushed to their living room downstairs upon hearing the angry voices of her parents. She had grown used to seeing them fight all the time but she still couldn't bear the pain it caused her. She hid herself behind a door in their living room to watch the unbearable scene. After a few minutes, she began to sob bitterly when her parents began to throw objects at each other. Her parents were alarmed by the sound she made.
They both turned around and spotted her behind the door with tears running down her cheeks. Her mother, Janet, felt sorry for herself and moved closer to console her daughter but Elsie ordered her to move back. Not knowing exactly what to do to make everything right, her father, Robin, felt very ashamed of himself at that moment.
“Daddy and Mummy, you promised me just two days ago that you would Solve all your problems maturely without involving any violence but you failed me”! Elsie said painfully. They all stood there watching each other as if asked to pause in a drama. Elsie was so surprised that her parents weren't ready to make her happy by resolving their problems and saying something better to her to kill her pain.
She ran out of their sight, planning to meet her best friend Anne, whom she normally went to whenever her parents began their usual thing. At Anne's home, she was always welcomed. Whenever Anne saw Elsie in their house, she knew there was a problem, which sometimes restrained Elsie from going home for days. As usual, Anne tried to comfort Elsie while in Anne's bedroom.
She hesitated in asking what the problem was because she already knew what it was. Elsie wouldn’t have liked to answer such questions too.
At Elsie's home, her parents continued with their arguments, trying to blame each other for their daughter's pain until Robin got very angry with Janet's hurting words and stabbed her with a broken glass bottle. Janet fell and stretched her body miserably on the tiled floor. She yelled in pain while lying on the floor. (Screaming on top of her voice: Help!)
Robin stood there and watched in surprise what he had done to his lovely wife. He couldn't even believe what he had done himself. (Jaw dropped with eyes wide open).
Miss Eugenia, a woman who owned their neighboring house upon hearing Janet’s loud-painful jelling asked her two teenage boys to come with her. When they arrived at Robin's house, they were very shocked at what they saw. Robin stood in front of Janet and stared at her regretfully. He couldn't even decide whether to leave her to die or to take her to the hospital and face justice later on. Just as he stood there, he noticed the presence of Eugenia and her sons.
Without wasting much time, Eugenia and her sons, Dave and Henry, rushed Janet to the nearest hospital to save her life. After Janet was admitted, Eugenia called the cops to report the incident. The police officers went to Robin's house to arrest him but he was nowhere to be found. They asked of either Robin's relatives or Janet's but Eugenia knew none of them; She rather told the police officers that they had a daughter named Elsie. They asked about Elsie's whereabouts but no one knew where she was. The police officers then asked Eugenia to keep her eyes on anyone who came near Robin's house and also to inform them whenever their daughter, Elsie was found around the area.
A week after the incident, Elsie decided to go back home. She had hoped that everything would be better when she got home. She asked her friend, Anne, to escort her to their house. Anne was very excited to do her friend that favor, being the first time she had asked her to escort her home.
When they arrived at Elsie's home, they rang the doorbells until they finally got tired of doing so because nobody showed up to open the door.
Anne advocated that they should go back to her home and return later to try again. They did as Anne suggested and when they returned later, still nobody was home, which made Elsie additionally sad. She was always feeling inferior because she felt that her parents didn't like her. When they went back to Anne's home, Anne advised her not to worry and proposed that they should return the next day to check if Elsie's parents would be home.
“Didn't I tell you that they didn't love me, they've never cared for me for once, they're too selfish to feel my pain”! Said Elsie in a shaking tone. “Don't say that my dear, all parents love and care for their children, just give them some time to resolve their issues first okay”, Anne said to calm Elsie down. “No Anne, you know very well that what you're saying is not true, did my parents even know my whereabouts all this while, did they know how I was doing, what I ate, and what I would be eating later on? Did they? ”Elsie asked unbearably.
“It's okay, just forget every problem and sleep, everything will be okay soon” Anne assured Elsie. Anne stood up and switched off the light in her room to make Elsie sleep.
While Elsie slept in Anne's soft soft bed, she leaned on the chair near her bed.
Early in the morning the next day, Eugenia the neighbor, spotted Anne and Elsie in front of Mr Robin's house. She quickly took her phone to call the cops to inform them. In no time, the police arrived at Robin's house when Elsie and her friend were about to leave.
The police picked Elsie, her friend together with Miss Eugenia to the police headquarters to confront Elsie with some questions. They asked her about the kind of life her parents lived and she told them everything about her parent's work, and how they fought at home almost every day. It was then that even Anne got to realize that Elsie's mum was a teacher, and her dad, was a mortuary worker.
The police then asked further about her close relatives.
Elsie upon raising her bowed head and looking straight into the eyes of the police with new confidence finally stated: “I’ll tell you everything I know, I promise I will”!
