Chapter 4 Girl In Coffin

1163 Words
Vita's POV I woke up from the cold. I don't know how long I've been asleep, or where I am. All I could feel was the cold to my bones. I tried to open my eyes to take a look around me, but I couldn't. I had a dim recollection of what had happened last night. Was it real, or was it just a dream? I think it was a dream. How could such a bizarre thing happen in reality? Maybe when I open my eyes again, I'll find myself in bed in my bedroom. With this hope, I opened my eyes with all my might. My eyes were blurry, and I mumbled, "Phil..." The name Phil has always meant everything to me. I always feel at ease just thinking of the name. There was no answer. Memories of last night are coming back to me. It seemed to me that I could see the blood flowing all over the ground again, and then I suddenly came wide awake, and I screamed out, "Robert!" There was no answer, either. Only then did I see my surroundings clearly. I was in a bottomless cave whose walls were covered with a thick layer of ice. In the middle of the cave is a crystal coffin. I walked involuntarily towards the crystal coffin. There was a girl sleeping in the crystal coffin. She seemed to be about my age, with snow-white skin and black hair. Even if her eyes were closed and she did not move, anyone who saw her would succumb to her beauty. Her face was vaguely familiar to me. When I accidentally looked up and saw my own reflection in the ice, I realized that she looked almost exactly like me! No, not exactly the same. She has extremely delicate skin and looks like a noble princess. I had the same features as her, but I was mediocre and cowering. The difference between her and me is as big as the ugly duckling and the white swan. "Have you ever wondered why Alpha saved you and brought you back to the Pack?" This is a proposition that has been bothering me for ten years. So this is the answer? I stared stupidly at the girl and didn't even notice the sound of footsteps behind me. When I came to my senses, I realized that Phil had come to me. He did not look at me, but kept looking at the girl in the crystal coffin so tenderly. I shivered as I watched Phil caress the coffin, as if trying to reach through the coffin and touch the girl's face. "Do you know who she is?" Such Phil made me feel extremely scared. I could not control my trembling and took a step back, trying to distance myself from the strange man. "She..." Phil doesn't care what I do. He never took his eyes off the girl, "She's my mate." Mate? Then I remembered that I had actually heard one name mentioned by the castle servants: Serena. They said she was the most beautiful girl in the whole pack. They said she was of noble blood. They said that she grew up with Alpha as a child. They said that they were the perfect match. Then, their conversation always ends with "If only she hadn't had that accident...". But I had never seen this girl named Serena in the pack, and Phil had never told me about her, so I automatically assumed that she had died because of that accident. I was afraid of upsetting Phil by mentioning her, so I never asked him about her. "Serena was 17 at the time," Phil tells me, gazing lovingly at the sleeping Serena. "The same age as you are now." I felt aware of something, and my heart began to tingle. "When she first transformed at the age of seven, I knew she had to be my mate." "She's been weak since she was a child, and everyone said she might not live as long as other werewolves. But I always thought it was okay. I was 10 years older than her. As Alpha, I usually have a life span of 200 years, and even if she has a shorter life span, I can take care of her until she gets old." "But I didn't expect her to fall asleep at 17." Phil's voice is very soft. It was as if he were telling me a fairy tale. "The witch told me that Serena's heart can no longer support her soul. The witch predicts I'll meet a girl who looks just like Serena, and the girl and Serena will even have the same heart . The witch said I can try to find her." Phil finally looked at me. It was the first time he had looked at me since he came to this cave. "Vita, this is the fate I told you. I met you." I felt as if a knife had pierced my heart, and the pain was so intense that I wanted to faint. So, Phil has been taking care of my body all this time, just to keep me alive, to keep me alive until I'm 17 before he can give my heart to his mate? I want to ask him after so many years of getting along with each other, does he always regard me as a carrier of the heart? But on the tip of my tongue, I don't want to ask. I fell silent. The cold wind was blowing in through the cave, and it sounded like the dying cry of a wild animal. Phil seemed to sympathize with me so he asked, "Is there anything you want to ask me?" I shook my head. But then I nodded. "If I lost my heart, would I fall into a deep sleep like she did? Or will I just die?" Phil patiently explained that the witch would be distilling my heart and feeding it to Serena, rather than swapping my heart with Serena. And even a werewolf, without a heart, would die. I turned away and quietly wiped away my tears. I didn't want to cry in front of him. It would appear that I was still begging for forgiveness. "Then I have nothing more to ask." Phil pulled out his long ruby-encrusted sword. "You're going to feel some pain. I'm sorry." With those words, he ripped open my chest. I have seen him many times in the training ground with this long sword in combat training; I also remember that when I was seven years old, he used the same sword to kill the beast and saved me. And right now, he's taking out my heart with this sword. I should have known that no one saves a rogue for no reason. Out of consciousness, I heard Phil's voice, full of anticipation, "Serena, don't worry, you'll wake up soon..." Tears painted my face. And so I died in peace.
