CHP. 6: Tears and tricks Cherry decided to go home after eating with us, waving as she said goodbye to us. The moon was really bright for only being half full so Jeffery stood watch while I slept with his tail around my waist. The searing sun peeking through the tree branches blocking the back window and a chilly gust of wind tickled my nose as I prepared to head outside again today. Jeffrey had already realized I was planning to leave, his whiney voice came from all directions. “I’ll be back, bud! I need to know where we are” his ears drooped knowing it was for the best. The garage door shut behind me and I gave Jeffery a thumbs up from the window attached to it. The sky was as clear as a crystal with a few clouds around. My journey started with a bright look on my situation. I enjoyed walking around the city but my skin was becoming more irritated the longer I stayed out in the sun. The sky was never this bright back at the institution. The park cherry suggested was coming up in a few blocks so I ran the rest of the way avoiding contact with anyone. The grass that was managing to grow was light green when the snow wasn’t on top of it. There were a bunch of children playing on some equipment and their parents sat on the benches watching. I wandered over to the other side of the park where there were many trees and shrubbery. The ground was cold but dry for the most part, the branches above swayed with the wind giving off a nice scent. Someone started shouting from the walkway nearby getting louder by the second. Twigs started crunching from the bushes beside me “Saturn! Where the heck are you, Saturn!” a man with long white hair ran past me in a hurry. The bush started twitching again when he was out of sight, a small fluffy puppy covered in dark orange fur popped out of the bush and fell into my lap. I quickly picked it up and threw it out onto the walkway on the other side of the bushes. It yelped as it’s back hit the brick path. A angry child jumped over the bush shouting at me “That was so rude! You straight up threw me over that bush!” his face was pale with flushed cheeks but what stood out was his Orange mop of hair. He continued shouting at me until he was out of breath. He was catching his breath when the white haired man started calling out again “Saturn this is NOT a joke!” the child ran between my legs cowering like he was still a baby when he looked about my age. He begged me to hide him, in that instant I stood up and waved the white haired man over. “Hey mister! I think you’re looking for this pitiful child!” The man’s neck snapped to look at me before running over. His gaze was fierce as he searched the ground where I had been sitting “Is this some kind of joke?! You spoke as if you knew where Mr.Saturn was!” the man scoffed at me with a glare in his eye. The man started walking away and the puppy clung to my leg from under the bush, quickly I snatched it by it’s scruff “Hey old man! This is yours right!?” his face went from rage to relief in a moment's notice. I couldn’t let this adult treat me like a toilet for him to yell at so this was my payback… He was about to grab the puppy from me when I jumped backward and dashed into the main park where all the kids were playing. I held the dog tightly yanking it around as needed to escape the park. The exit was in sight when I heard heavy footsteps catching up to me. My adrenaline kicked in and I jumped through the gates giving me some distance. My body was wearing down and the sores had already reopened due to the midday heat but they were not a hindrance in the least. The pup started yowling when I reached an intersection “Shut up would ya?!” I held the dog under my arm so it was more comfortable. It kept barking and screeching until I was in a alleyway “Damn you freaking dog!” I threw it into a dumpster waiting for it to shut up. Ten minutes flew by and it finally shut its mouth. I peeked over the edge to see the child again “You jerk! Just wait until my dad gets ahold of you!” he sniffled and cried like a baby until the white haired man caught up. He was furious when he saw I had dumped the kid into a trash can. I was still dangling over the edge when I was grabbed by the throat. The mans hair was so messed up and tangled by the time he retrieved his kid from the dumpster. Without a word we were dragged off and thrown into two separate trash bags. I could hear the other kid crying after we got loaded into a vehicle. I was terrified and shaken to the core but I refused to cry like a toddler. My sack was drug on the ground by a larger figure while the man from before carried his kid over the shoulder. I had no clue where we were going or what I had coming but it was so worth it to see that man so messed up! My bag was a normal plastic trash bag like the ones the maids used but bigger. We entered a large building with revolving doors, there was a red carpet and lots of people watching as we passed. Those people could clearly see a child was in this bag but they didn’t do anything to help! I tore open the back of the bag with my nails just in time to escape from a loud mechanical contraption. The doors shut just in time, the man carrying me got his hand crushed in the doors. I got on all fours before jumping through a giant window and onto the sidewalk, it was all fun until that kid stopped crying. I hurried to find a familiar sight but there were no signs I recognized. I trotted down the road until nightfall came. My legs were sore and my eyes were dry from being in the sun all day. My nose was stuffy from the humidity but I had to keep moving. Another hour passed before i knew it… I fell to the ground leaning against another large building towering above me. I was curled up in a ball listening to the sounds of the city, there were no fireflies yet or stars in the sky. Tears streamed from my face silently as I thought about how lonely Jeffery must be. I knew I had to get home but my wings had been torn to shreds after my first attempt to leave the institute. There were a lot less people out tonight than there were before, the ones I do see are in cars or in a restaurant across the street. CHP 7: The price of a trick As I stared at the sky I had shut off most of my senses, unfortunately that was a huge mistake. Before I had realized it I was surrounded by a large pack of dog like wolves. Each had their gaze lock on my throat with drool spewing every time they snapped their jaws. The biggest one raised his head to speak “Mark! What is the meaning of this?! It’s just a child!” that’s when the white one crouched under the pressure of his friend “Y-yes but-” he was cut off with a bone crushing snap from the jaws of the biggest one. I was back at the center of attention and it was not fun. The beast spoke to me directly “Child what was your reason for kidnapping my son?!” his teeth were bared waiting for my response. I really didn’t have an excuse so I put my hands up in the air, I read about this kind of thing in one of my favorite books. “I surrender!” the book said if you have no way out don’t fight! The white wolf cackled at me. I had already given up but a few of the wolves started trembling, a shadow started looming over some of them. In a instant two of them had been crushed in the jaws of my best friend, Jeffery. Their blood spattered on the sidewalk and their cries were muffled from the inside of jeffery’s mouth. Half of the wolves had retreated behind their boss while the others stood frozen to their spots. Jeffery was ready to finish off the first two when I clung to his paw. Jeffery threw them in front of their leader before checking on me, his nose was cold and wet. Jeffery set me on his back before snarling at the pack of wolves. The leader stepped up to snap at us “Why has the cerberus sided with a human?!” the man was distraught as he pleaded with Jeffery to hand me over. Jeffery watched each of them intently memorizing everything about them. I slid to the ground and walked in front to settle things. “I only took that dog because the white haired man was so rude! The child was terrified of him too!” Me and Jeffery departed once they backed off. We got home at sunrise to see Cherry leaving the garage. We decided it was best to wait for her to leave so she didn’t worry. The cold damp floor felt amazing after being outside for so long. I stretched relieving my stress, I slept like a rock for the next nine hours.
