Chapter 25
Bryce's POV
I was in London, searching for my so-called mate. We had been together for a few years when I discovered she was betraying me. Confronting her, she lied to my face before leaving that night. Unbeknownst to me, she had been stealing money from me for a year. When she failed to return home, I mind-linked her, swearing that I would reject her upon finding her again. She laughed and blocked my mind-link, a memory still fresh in my mind. Now, as I read an email from my brother, Isiaha, summoning me back home for the family's upcoming battle arena endeavor, I eagerly recalled my family's past involvements in such events. Isiaha arranged for the family jet, prompting me to swiftly pack and head to the airport, where I boarded the aircraft. Three hours later, we landed back home, and Spike welcomed me with open arms.
“I think your mate is at the pack right now,” Spike said, informing me of the ongoing situation involving Tori confronting my supposed mate. Intrigued, I rushed to join them, without bothering with my belongings. I heard screams and caught a whiff of Rica’s scent, now repulsive to me. Witnessing my sister tormenting her, I intervened, declaring, “Stop. She is my mate.” Tori's surprised expression turned comical, but the pinnacle of humor was reached when I decisively rejected Rica. Two years of anticipation finally culminated in this moment of closure. I could have contacted Rica telepathically, but I preferred a face-to-face confrontation to sever our ties. With that done, I could move forward in hope of finding a second chance mate if the goddess willed it.
“Guards, escort Rica to the cells. She will be accommodated there for a few months. I will have the doctor examine her, ensuring her recovery,” Isiaha ordered, emphasizing the importance of her well-being. While my personal indifference toward her was evident, we had a responsibility to ensure Rica’s proper healing. Although uncertain about the restoration of her teeth, I had no doubt her nose would heal, and her hair would grow back. Isiah approached, offering a pat on my back.
Welcome home, brother. Sorry about your ex-mate, but you have closure now. He was right; I had closure now. I looked over at Rachel; she had someone beside her. I wonder what's up with that. Let me guess, if I am correct, she had chosen a mate. She had called me and told me about these weird dreams she was having. She said she was tired of feeling alone and was thinking about choosing a mate. She was sure her mate was dead. I told her that if that's how she felt, then she should do it, but just make sure not to get hurt. Walking over to her, I hugged her and asked if that was the guy she had chosen. She whispered back, saying yes. Looking him up and down, I shook his hand.
"Hey man, nice to meet you. I'm Bryce, her other brother. Just make sure you're good to her, okay?"
"The name is Cord. Nice to meet you as well. I will treat her like gold; there are no worries about that."
"I will keep you at your word on that. Alright, I'm heading to my room to relax now. I will see everyone later." Looking over at the guards while they were dragging Rica away as she kicked and screamed to be let free, she was always a drama queen. I wasn't sure why the Moon Goddess paired us up, but there is always a reason. Maybe she did that to get me prepared for the right one; who knows. But for right now, I want to be single for a while. Give me a few months; I'll be ready.
**Cord's POV**
I was almost growling when this guy came over, hugging up on my mate, but then I realized that was her brother. Damn, how many family members does this girl have? I should be careful because this is the Mafia family, and Mafia families are huge. I know she has tons of sisters and brothers. I haven't met all of them, but I'm sure I will. She has told me about Polly and Nicole, Selena, Isiaha, who is the Mafia king, her father Mercury and his mate Cheyenne, Spike and his mate Vega, and a few others. We finally went back inside where the help cleaned up what Tori had done to that girl, Rica. I never liked her; she was always hitting on every male in the pack, and if you didn't pay any attention to her, she always pitched a fit. I was glad Tori kicked her ass; she deserved it. After everything was settled, we went out to train. I didn't think the Luna needed to train, but you can always use some extra training to get stronger. Once that was done, we went back inside our house. We went up to our room to watch some TV; Tori and Bear stayed downstairs to spend some time together. That's when I wanted to ask Rachel something, something that I needed to know about. If we're going to make this work, we should have some ground rules.
“Hey, how about we set some ground rules between us? I mean it's nothing bad, but I think we need them. Just say, it's been a full two years that we’ve been together as chosen mates, and we still have not found our mates. How about we start a family? If after we start our family together, one of us finds our mates, we will both reject them. I'm not leaving you and our child; I just won't do that. Besides, I think we would have a strong enough bond that we would end up being soul mates. I wouldn't mind that at all. And another thing, we will not look for comfort outside our relationship. If we need comfort, we’ll look for each other, the same for wanting release—no cheating. We turn to each other. What do you think? I could tell she was thinking about this. I didn't think she would start laughing about it.”
