Chapter 28 Rachel's POV After a long night of making out, I was exhausted. We took another shower, then finally went to bed. When I fell asleep, I started dreaming right away. I don't usually do this, but I was also really tired. I was walking in the middle of the woods. It starts out like this all the time either I was chasing something or something was chasing me. But tonight was different. It was really peaceful. I could hear the owls talking to each other. I even saw a few deer laying down to rest. I saw a flower patch, so I decided I would go over there to pick a few flowers. I stopped when I felt something or someone watching me. Here we go, the chasing begins. How come I could never have any peace in a dream? When I turned to look, I noticed the figure. It was him, the man that claims to be my mate, who always leaves when he tells me to come with him. He got up from the huge rock he was sitting on, and he started to walk towards me. But something was different, I could actually see his face. He was very handsome, he had a goatee, his hair was a little long, down to his shoulders. He was wearing jeans with a blue shirt. He had tattoos on his hands and his neck. When I looked into his eyes, they were the prettiest, greenest eyes I have ever seen. When I finally found my voice, I had to ask him: "Why now, after all this time you kept leaving me, why now you let me see your face? After all the games you played with me, you're letting me see all of you. Why?" He was stunned by my voice, I guess, but he recovered fast, then he spoke in a calm voice. Because I was angry at the world, I had a mate, and she betrayed me. I thought if I played with your head, I would feel better, but I felt it was wrong. When you told me that you were not like the people who hurt me, I knew I had to think things through. I'm sorry I hurt you. Please forgive me. "How can I forgive a ghost? You're dead, aren't you? It's the reason why you keep vanishing, am I right?" "No, you're wrong. I am very much alive. What pack are you from? What is your name? Please tell me so I can look for you." When he asked me about my pack and my name, he had a weird look on his face, then he suddenly said, "Sh*t, listen, I have to go. Rogues are attacking my pack, but I will be back. My name is Alpha Cole, from the River Wolf Pack. Please do not shut me out. I will find you. I don't care that you had chosen a mate; I will find you." With that, he left me again. "Goddess, my mate is alive. What am I going to do now? Wait, did he say he is an alpha from the River Wolf Pack? That pack is like a five-day drive away. Sh*t, it's not like we will ever see each other. So I now know there is no chance of us seeing each other ever. I won't tell anyone about this dream, not even Cord. I don't want him to worry. I liked Cord a lot." I came out of my dream, opened my eyes, and was really thirsty for some reason. So I drank from the water bottle on my nightstand, then I laid back down and went back to sleep. Whatever this is, whatever he is trying to pull, it's not going to work. He just needs to let me go. Cord already assured me that he will not leave me if we have a family, but I also have a feeling he's going to meet his mate, and he would be gone. It's the reason why I held s*x. I don't want to have s*x with him, and he ends up finding his mate. It's only been a few days, and we are already doing things that I have never done with anyone else. This is just crazy, too crazy for me. Morning came all too early. When I woke up, I turned to see where Cord was. He wasn't in bed with me. Well, I can't always keep tabs on him, could I? Getting up from bed, I went to the bathroom to start my day. After that, I took another shower, got dressed, and went downstairs to eat something. I wasn’t really hungry, so I grabbed an apple and headed outside to train. Cord was already outside, chatting with some of the guys. I walked over to my sister and the other girls. I noticed one girl looking at Cord. When she realized I was observing her, she quickly looked away. Tilting my head, I understood what was happening. She was his mate, though he wasn't aware of it yet. Was I holding him back? Darn, this was inevitable. I approached her and put my hand on her shoulder. "Don’t be scared. Go to him. I won’t be hurt, okay? Go to him. He needs you." "Are you sure? I don't want to come between you." "You're not in the way. Just go to him if you truly want him, then go." She nodded and walked over to him. That's when I noticed his tension. He had read my thoughts. I was certain of it. Slowly, he turned to look at me and then at her. He went over to her and drew her into a conversation. I didn't know what was said, but after their discussion, he approached me. She stood there watching. He took my hands. "Rachel, I didn't expect this to happen so quickly. Are you certain you want me to go to her? I don't want to hurt you. We were just starting to know each other. I was beginning to really like you, and then she appeared. I’m sorry." I fought back tears because I, too, was growing fond of him. This was all happening too fast, but it was necessary. "Yes, I'm sure. Go to her. I'll be okay, I promise. I will." He nodded as he held my hands. He kissed my cheek as we spoke the words that needed to be expressed. We mutually rejected each other. He embraced me as we endured the emotional pain, and then it vanished. "Go to her, Cord. Don’t leave her waiting." With a nod, he gazed into my eyes as though seeking me to ask him to stay. When I remained silent, he slowly released my hands and left. I had no desire to train that day. I walked off the field and headed home. I packed his clothes in his bag and placed it in the living room so he wouldn't need to enter the bedroom to collect his belongings. Then, I returned to my room, locking the door. I simply wanted to be left alone. Deciding on a chosen mate was a misguided decision. I knew this outcome was impending, but it unraveled rapidly.
