Chapter 8
Vegas POV
After Spike finally approached me, and we had our talk, I realized that he didn't speak much. He is more action-oriented than anything else. We talked for hours about his family and his long-standing allegiance to Mercury. Now, he serves Mercury's son, Isaiah. He never disclosed his age, but I'm sure I'll find out eventually. We walked out because Isaiah wanted me to lead the training session today. He said,
"You're part of the family now; it's time to step up. I want you to be the trainer today." When I asked Spike for advice, he said, "Just be yourself, make them run laps, do warm-ups, and have them spar against each other." I listened to his advice and had a few things planned for the morning. When I arrived at the group, I noticed Mercury's daughters were present. Just because his kids were there didn't mean I would go easy on them; I wanted to see what they were made of.
"Alright, listen up, and listen, good. I want sixty laps. If you stop or slow anyone down, you will have to run those laps again while the others watch. Come on, let's get to it. I want to see those feet running." Watching as they began the laps, I ran with them as it seemed only fair since I was making them do it. Nobody fell behind; a few slowed down, but they kept up. I was impressed. After letting them get some water, I told them what I wanted to see next.
"Alright, guys, get your butts up. I want to see sixty leg lifts on each leg, sixty squats, sit-ups, push-ups. If anyone slacks, you will have to do it again while others watch you. Come on, let's do it." And again, I did the exercises with them. Spike mind-linked me, "Why are you doing these with them? You know you don't have to; you're the trainer." I realized I didn't have to, but I wanted to be sarcastic.
"Oh, come on, you know you liked watching my ass when I was doing those squats." Looking over at him, he gave me a smirk. I wish I knew what was on his mind; he keeps it locked up, and no one can tell what he's thinking. When everyone finished the warm-ups, I had them pair up for sparring to assess their skills and provide pointers.
Tori POV
Damn, this girl was tougher than I thought. She was fully involved with us, and I liked that. Spike has a good mate; I didn't know him well – just a few interactions here and there. He's not much of a talker; Dad mentioned it's always been his way. I hope his mate can help him open up, but who knows. When Vegas asked us to team up and spar, I partnered with Bear and could sense his nervousness. It would be funny if I could get him into one of my locks.
“Alright guys, get in your fighting stance, then begin,” So we did what we were told. I was taught by dad how to fight. I got my butt kicked many times until I put him down. I could only do it once. He was so proud of me. He told me this:
"Remember this day, honey. Because it will be the only time I will ever let you do that to me." And he was right. I couldn't do it again, no matter how hard I had tried. He would always find a way to block my kicks and hits. I didn’t care at all. I was just glad I knocked him down that one time. Bear was waiting for me to strike. He was smirking. I think he thought I wasn’t going to do anything. So I surprised him. I did a double flip, then kicked him in the back, making him stumble forward. He turned smirking, then mouthed:
“Try it again.” But this time, I just did a flip, turned, then gave him a sidekick. I smirked when I knew he wasn't prepared for that.
“Did you see how I did that? I flipped, turned, and then side-kicked you. I want you to try that on me. But I want you to do it with your own moves.” He nodded as he recovered, then he came forward circling me. Is he kidding me? He looks like a kid doing that. But he surprised the hell out of me, side-kicking me, making me grab my side in surprise. He smirked, then flipped over me, but he surprised the hell out of me again when he was flipping. He kicked me in the head, making me fall back. What the heck was that? When he landed on his feet, I asked him:
“How the heck did you do that?” He chuckled and then said:
“When you're in the air, let your leg out. You can kick anyone in the head when you do it. You just have to surprise them with it. You can't let them know what you're doing until you're over their head kicking them. It stuns them enough so you can land and then attack again.”
It made me wonder what else he had up his sleeve. But if he wants to play that game, I can also play that game. I knew a trick or two. Let's do this.
