making a call 42

Chapter 42 Cole's POV I woke up this morning, careful not to disturb her. She was sleeping so peacefully, and her face had a healthy color. I needed to make a few phone calls, but before doing so, I decided to take a shower. After drying off, I quickly got dressed and headed to my office. I should have left the door open in case she was looking for me, but I didn't want others to overhear my phone conversations. The first call was to Bear and Tori. I inquired if they had room for two hundred pack members. "Of course, man. What's going on? Is everything okay?" "Oh yeah, everything is great. She wasn't too angry; she slapped me hard across the face, leaving a nice handprint. But other than that, we talked most of the night, and she is sleeping now." "Good, good. Tori had been worried about her." "Tori, she's doing well. I promise you that. We will be there at the end of the week. I have several private jets for my people. I talked to the workers, and they said it's going to take three more weeks to get everything up and running. They are currently working on the pipes and still need to complete the guard station and the training grounds." "That's awesome. You're more than welcome to stay here until your pack is finished. Can you have Rachel call her sister when she wakes up?" I just hung up when I heard a knock on the door. I already knew who it was - Rachel. "Come on inside, Rachel. You don't have to knock; you can just walk in. I don't care what I'm doing; you're always welcome here." She entered, and I pulled her close, hugging her, and then kissed her. I wanted to keep kissing her but didn't want her to feel uncomfortable. We were discussing watching a movie together later today once I finish everything when the door began to open. I growled, asking... "Rida, what do you need? What is so important that you had to walk in here without knocking, interrupting my time with my Luna?" She tried to say she would come back later, but my mate stopped her. She said something that shocked me; she knew that Rida and I had been together, but she thought it was in the past. I don't know what was up with Rida, but she was upsetting my mate. I have told her this before, but she wanted to know when the fighting arena was supposed to be. I know for a fact I told the pack that if they wanted to participate, they should sign up; it would be in two months on a Monday. I didn't have time for this nonsense. I was relieved when she left because I wanted to spend time with my mate. I needed to reassure her so she wouldn't be upset or slap me again. "Honey, listen. She was before you. I never promised her anything. She knew it was nothing. But now that I have you, I am loyal to you. I won't go to anyone else." I don’t know why you are trying to defend yourself. We both had lives before we knew we were mates. You are a man, you have needs, and well, you knew what I was doing. I had a chosen mate. So it's all good, you do not need to explain to me at all. I was so thankful for her; she understood. But now I am completely loyal and faithful. One of my rules is never to try and mess with a mated pair, including an alpha or luna—that means death. I am just wondering if Rida was going to leave this alone. I had a feeling she's not, and the battle arena is just the beginning. If she tries anything at all before the arena, I swear I'm going to rip her head right off of her. I'm just glad that Rachel wasn't angry at me. She admitted she was doing the same thing with her mate. How could I be mad at her for telling me the truth? Most alphas want a mate that is untouched. I have had that and see where it ended up at — she betrayed me for another. I'm just happy that my second chance is here with me.
