Plans 2

The wedding reception, boodle fight feast and the free flow of drinks were dragged on till late in the afternoon. As the food was reduced to scraps, the Town Council workers also known as gong scourers even though there's no excrement to dig, began to clear all the tables on the pitch. The fish was separated from the rest of the scraps as the kitchen helpers assisted in clearing those scraps as the engineers were still making use of the perimeter of the grounds to construct their RedCoc. So far they had managed to get the layout prepared and they had erected the first Station which was the low wall. At 6 foot high and half a foot thick, it seemed that the low wall would be a stopper when the soldiers and participants arrive after they had run the first 650 yards. Hahaha. I would really love to see those future soldiers and participants ramming into the low wall instead of clearing them in one swoop. Eagle approached me and he handed me the booklets that he had procured last night plus a sample of the parchment that required my signature and seal. I read the parchment and was satisfied with the diplomatic contents inside it. "What's with the booklets, Eagle? The language used is really ancient as if it was the first time these booklets were written in English. Heh. Even the spelling here is full of mistakes but it's understandable." I pointed out the booklets since there was no indication of any illustrations on the cover and even in the contents. When I took a closer look, I saw that it mentioned about mythical creatures, both big and small. Before I could ask Eagle where he got the booklets, he read my mind and simply said, "Don't ask me where I got those booklets, Your Majesty. These should be used as a reference on where you would be looking for. Take your time to browse through the contents and then you could ask me for guidance." I nodded instead and flipped through the booklets as there was a lot of information that needs time for me to digest. These mythical creatures were only mentioned in books and I had gotten some booklets on their information. There was even one that was part of a song and I began to suspect something that these books may have come from somewhere nearby. After flipping through the booklets, Eagle showed me the sample notes he had made to be entered into a parchment and to be served as a decree from the territorial king. "That's pretty fast, Eagle. I didn't realise that you would come out with a sample of a decree to present to the Lords of other towns to release the serfs at a price and also to seek the peasants who are willing to come to a free land over here." After I had read through the contents I found that Eagle had indeed mentioned about manumission where he intended to free the serfs from their 'captivity' thus bringing them over to this town to continue their serfdom. Heh... It doesn't sound any different from the serfs working over there and over here except their treatment would be much better and their living conditions would be improved. Besides, Eagle had noted that a single person would be paid 5 silvers each for their release as Eagle noted that the 'transfer' of these serfs would be used to build out town infrastructure as they are required to work on lands. On top of that, Eagle offered those towns grains such as wheat, corn and also local produce that they need at a competitive price. The wheat and corn would be sold at 6 coppers per pound instead of the usual 8 coppers which were the current market price. The local produce would also be discounted and be sold in bushels. On this way, the Lords of the town would definitely be enticed by the prices and would be required to come over here to our town to complete the transaction for the transfer of serfs. After I had read the sample decree that was lengthy but very informative, I decided to let Eagle settle the manuscripts and firm there I would lay my signature and seal on it to make it official. Since Eagle had the knowledge on which towns were had been servicing, there was no need to venture there but instead continue to spread our influence to other towns that were previously not within our reach. I lauded and praised Eagle for his efforts and informed him that I would still need to learn a few things from him. "Eagle, how many decrees are you going to prepare and how are you going to spread the news of this 'goodwill' to the other Lords?" Eagle raised his chin up and then he informed me, "I would be making 8 of these decrees and then it would be based on the directional of our town. The adventurers do not require to give any money to the Lords. By the way, is 5 silvers alright for a single serf to get them over here?" "5 silvers should be alright, Eagle. Based on the outsides of town currency exchange, 20 silvers or shillings would be a gold coin, right? Its no matter, as long as we would be able to get our hands to free those serfs and get them to work for us instead." I replied as I returned the scroll to Eagle to be made into decrees later on. "Alright then, Your Majesty. I will get on it while waiting for the Adventurers Guild to be constructed. Besides, Gwen had already begun to speak to the hunter-gatherer and they had spread the news like Wildfire." "Up to date, I guessed we have about 80 people who would like to sign up as adventurers and they consisted of those young men and ladies of the non-working class." I smiled after hearing the great advertisement that Gwen had made for the recruitment of Adventurers here in this town. In that case, we would be getting a whole lot more people from as young as 14 years old to be an adventurer. Just the thought of it excited me and made my blood boil since we would be a step closer to our objectives — manpower. I clenched my fist and made a pump in the air when I realised about it and Heather who was beside me all along was also excited as well. If only she was unmarried I think she would be part of the adventurers and seeking new found lands and visiting other towns as well. "Sounds really great, my dear. At least we could once explore out of the town's perimeter as these young people would perform their own expeditions according to the task." "How many stars do you want to rate the task and how was the reward going to be?" Heather inquired as she was equally as excited as me. "2 stars ranking for the task and a reward of 20 silvers for a party of a minimum of 4 people. Furthermore, this task would be repeatable and this would be no end." "8 such tasks would be issued simultaneously and then once the Lords came over here from the towns that had been visited by the adventurers, they would then be paid. Would that be fair, Eagle? " "Seema fair, Your Majesty. It would be a source of their motivation once they had their first pouch of coins. I am sure they would strive to get into more towns as possible in a single expedition." Eagle agreed with me as the amount was neither too little or too much. If divided among 4 people, each would receive 5 silvers per tsks completed per town. If the adventurers were smart enough, they would hit at least a few towns to increase the rewards before heading back to town to declare which towns or villages they had come to visit. In this way, the person in charge of issuing the task would record down the visited towns or villages. It would definitely be a lot of work for the issuer of tasks but at least it would also something that makes the work go round in a full circle. To gain results we have to throw in some resources and we do have those bountiful resources at hand due to our conglomerates with other towns and cities. =*= Dear friends and fans, If you discover any grammatical errors along the way, we would appreciate if you would be able to point them out as part of helping us to keep this novel as perfect as possible.
