Godfrey 2

2136 Words
"Hello Godfrey, how are you feeling this evening? How's your supper? Was it good? Tonight would be your last night to stay here in the hospital and tomorrow you would be discharged after the doctors had made a final check on you, alright?" "Your parents would be coming in soon and I'm sure they are very happy to see how your progress is and you would be able to walk run, jump and play around like any other children. Don't you like to do all that soon?" Priestess Isabela sat near the bed of Godfrey and he was sitting up as he had finished up the supper of a simple and light gruel. Meals at the hospital was prepared at the outdoor kitchen area and supper was simply something light to satiate the hunger since there are 3 complete meals daily. There was a huge smile on Godfrey's face as he wiped his mouth with a napkin and replied in a rather jubilant manner as he too was given another chance at life. "I am feeling very good, Sister Isabela. Thank you for taking good care of me. I had never been treated in a hospital before and I feel quite alright when I'm here." "I used to hear dreadful stories about hospitals before and the nurses and doctors were wearing those hooded beaks as they treat the patients, is that true? Godfrey was mentioning to the times when the doctors and shamans were treating those patients inflicted with the Black Death during the Great Pestilence that was brought by a certain sailor when he docked at one of the ports here in England. These doctors and shamans were wearing hoods when treating them and had worn masks that had looked like a crow's beak during their visits to the patients. "I am very very happy that I was able to stretch my arms once again whenever I wake up and I was able to walk with a straight back and not like before." Previously, Godfrey could not do such simple tasks as his crooked spine disables him to be mobile unlike now. His crooked spine restricted his movements so much that he was in pain most of the time and had to be assisted by his mother most of the time. "Thank you for the food too, I never had so much to eat before since we only eat one normally and sometimes twice if we have good harvests back in our old town." Godfrey and his family had gone through harsh times back in Camp and they had barely managed to have enough to eat even though the harvest was bountiful. Besides, the harvest was strictly controlled by Austin and his servants and they had to ration their food every time. "This town is different and I could hear the children studying besides the hospital here. I also want to go to the school and to make new friends and also to learn new things...!" Godfrey was simply ecstatic and listened intently to the teachings that were going on to the building next to the hospital. He heard many children laughing in joy when they arrived in school and meet their friends before they went to their own separate classrooms. "Could I do that, Sister Isabela? Will the other children accept me since they knew I was in the hospital because I look and walk like a crab." Godfrey suddenly had a sullen look on his face when he remembered who he was when he came to this town due to the horrific injury that Austin Powers had inflicted on him. "Yes, you can, Godfrey. You can make as many friends as you like and you can join in the activities as they would. There's nothing or little worry to that." "I don't think the children would mind about your past but they would even be curious to know a bit of your past too if they knew you had gone to the hospital here for treatment." "Furthermore, you might even be hailed as a hero since your mummy had stood up to that evil man and had changed the way he looked from then on. "It just takes some time for you to adjust yourself and once you are accustomed to it, I don't think there would be anything that would be able to stop you." "Besides, you have your parents support behind you and there's nothing for you to worry at all." "You can start school right during Springtime since the school would be closing in a month's time due to winter and here, there's no work to be done except for the factories." Godfrey sat in his bed and was having mixed feelings since he had never had much interaction when he was a child among his neighbours and friends. This would be considered as his first time being away from his actual home towns and there would be more activities he would be indulged in the future to come. A while later, his parents came to visit him and brought him some snacks that they had gotten from the food vendor outside the hospital grounds that was manned by one of the Priests or Priestess. "Hey, son. Here's something I got from the food wagon downstairs. It's honey-glazed popped corn and I hope you sure like them since it's freshly being made." Gregory handed the bag of still-warm popped corn to his son as he gladly received it and wanted to share with Sister Isabela but she refused. The family chatted for some time and after watching their son sitting up and prepped in the bed without any support, they were very ecstatic and can't wait to see their son walk in his own the next following day. Even if their son had gone for some therapy to steady his legs and balance after not being using them for some time, Priestess Isabela wanted to give Godfrey's parents a surprise the next day instead. Godfrey's parents were very elated with their son's progress and recovery and they can't wait for him to take his own steps out from the hospital grounds tomorrow and also to walk around like any other child onwards. They had seen the recovery of the militia invalids and up to date for almost 64 days, Priestess Isabela had healed a total of 84 patients and all of them had walked in with amputated or broken limbs and walked out of the hospital as if they had just emerged from a pub. The patients had not a single bandage over them and their missing or broken limbs had healed completely...! They also knew about the move from the thatched house right to the brick homes and their turn to move would be between 6 to 12 months time. Nevertheless, the living conditions, even in a thatched home, was many times better than their cruck houses back in Camp. Gregory and his wife stayed by their son and asked Priestess Isabela about the scheduled discharge timing for their son on the next following day. "Oh, the doctors would be on rounds by 9 in the morning, then Godfrey would be doing some tests before he would be leaving right after lunch tomorrow." " Would you wished him to stay for lunch or would you rather have lunch with him outside instead? We can make arrangements for early discharge if you wish." Priestess Isabela advised Gregory and they decided that they would prefer to take Godfrey out before lunch and spend some time out in the sun within the town square as they would be mingling with the rest of the community. "There will be an event held at 3 in the afternoon, am I right? Well, we would like Godfrey to have a head start in mingling with his peers by then." "Besides he can find out a lot of things about what school's like by Springtime. Furthermore, our son had been an introvert ever since he got inflicted by they horrid injury and since then he prefers to remain as a recluse and stays indoors." "He shuns his own friends and due to his injury he losses his self-esteem and self-confidence as well." "Tomorrow would be a great time for Godfrey to be able to pick up where he had left. Don't you think so, Sister Isabela?" "Would you kindly pass the message to the doctors for his early release right after his medical checkup?" Gregory pleaded with Priestess Isabela and she picked up the patients chart and wrote something in it to remind the doctors for early release of the patient tomorrow and forgo lunch in the hospital. It would be a good time for Godfrey to rebound back with his parents and also to meet his own peers from the community. Gregory thanked Priestess Isabela and she left the family to chat with their son to keep him company. Since its still visiting hours, Priestess Isabela let the parents be there since Godfrey was actually ready to be discharged and well enough to stand on his own two feet. It's just a formality to keep him for another 24 hours to ensure they everything is fine and nothing is amiss. "Alright then, Mister and Missus Gregory, I would be attending to the other patients since they had just arrived in today and I would like to make some assessment on them before they go under their recuperation process." Priestess Isabela excused herself as she went to the other section of the ward and observed their extent of injuries sustained during the line of duty at the frontlines. After she had made the assessment and using a body chart where she circled the areas that need the attention, she got the militia invalids to change into hospital garb and take a short rest before they were attended by Priestess Isabela again. Gregory and his wife, Gina watched how deft Priestess Isabela worked among the patients and had a sense of appreciation to her as they named her the Nightingale, a small bird but had a powerful and sweet voice to it. Someone who may seem insignificant and young and inexperienced but brought joy, hope and happiness to the patients around her. After Priestess Isabela had checked her patients and they had changed into their hospital garb, she interviews them as a whole and found out how long they had been injured and what kind of treatment they had undergone. She advised they no one would go under a blade or pricked by a needle as she narrates the whole procedures to the new 4 patients and told them that the recovery and recuperation rate would be in 48 hours prior to admission. This was a great leap to her first treatment and case where she almost takes up about a week for the patient to be fully recovered. But since she had the Psi orb induced water that she had taken from the Priest's guild, she no longer needs to take a break after each session with the patients and she began to see things in a different light and angle. This affects her performance tremendously as she would be able to regenerate those missing or broken limbs within a shorter period of time with 100% success every time...! After making the pre checkup on her patients, Priestess Isabela asked for some supper to be prepared for the patients as they would be undergoing treatment sometime later. As for herself, she would be drinking copious cups of the water they had been imbued with the Psi Energy orbs to prepare herself for the so-called pre-op for the patients. Seeing that Priestess Isabela was busy with the other patients, Gregory and wife stayed a bit while longer until their son had finished eating the honey glazed popped corn before they bid farewell to their son and would be coming in again by tomorrow. They knew their son would need all the rest he possibly could and by then he would be bounding around just like any other children instead. They can't seem to wait for tomorrow to come and watch their son take his first few steps on his own after the horrid incident. =*= Dear friends and fans, If you discover any grammatical errors along the way, we would appreciate if you would be able to point them out as part of helping us to keep this novel as perfect as possible.
