SIENNA’S POV
His attention darted between his father and I.
A lump formed in my throat as he narrowed his eyes at me before looking away.
"I wasn't outside." He lied, turning away to walk briskly up the staircase.
"Your father told me how much you love bacon!" My mother called out behind him. "So, I included it in today's breakfast. Be sure to come downstairs soon."
He grunted a response.
There was no way this was happening.
Hell no! I cursed under my breath. My hands were practically shaking as I clutched the fork and knife.
Why did my mother to invite him downstairs again?
I was barely over the fact that I had obviously slept with my step brother, and he was now acting as though we didn't know each other.
Well, I appreciated that.
I didn't expect him happily announce what we did at Diego's party, yet the blank stare in his blue eyes each time they settled on me, was more than enough to cause my skin to crawl. It deflated my ego that he found it so easy to look at me as though I were only a mere stranger to him. Wasn't that what I was supposed to be?
A one night stand.
Damn!
My heart pounded in my chest as I hoped that I was probably in a dream, or some sort of nightmare. I silently hoped that soon, I would jerk awake in the small room at Diego's place, with a hangover.
I scooped a spoonful of rice, stuffing my mouth with it as a deadly thought flitted into my mind.
What if Kyren decided to tell my mother what happened last night?
I was horrified at the mere thought of the possibility. My mother wouldn't rest until I was sure about how disappointed she would be in me.
"Don't you like the food?" My step father, Victor asked, with a soft smile.
I nodded, and broke into a fake cough, before I reached out for the glass of water.
My mother had a stern expression on her face as she watched me closely.
I heard footsteps down the staircase and I froze.
That was Kyren, my new step sibling.
I kept my attention pinned to the food on my plate before me, willing myself to not look at him again.
I heard the sound of a chair scraping against the floor, and I bit hard on my lower lip.
"So, Sienna has always been an avid lover of arts!" My mother said with excitement, breaking the tensed silence at the dining table, "Kyren, I'm sure you two could bond over this shared interest."
Before I could stop myself, I raised my head and met Kyren's eyes on me. My mind reeled as I realized that he was seated directly opposite me on the other end of the table, just besides his father.
I almost choked on my breath.
What manner of insane coincidence was this? Of all men in LA, why did I end up having this particular one as a stepbrother? Heat spread through me as I realized that my body still reacted to him even as he was sitting across from me on the table.
I badly wanted to get into his head and know what he was thinking. Was he thinking about yesterday?
Most likely not.
His face had not changed one bit.
It was still goddamn attractive, despite the poker face expression he had on.
Also, the same lips which I had kissed with so much passion last night were now set in a hard, straight line. His hair was stylishly gelled neatly to the sides, unlike how rough it had been yesterday when I dug my fingers into them. For the first time, I noticed that his crazy tattoos were no longer visible, as they hid under a black long sleeved shirt.
“Ye...Yes. I love painting and drawing too.” I said with a hoarse voice.
His reply was sharp, "Unfortunately, I don't have time for arts, Bibian." He was talking to my mother, yet I held his attention.
His father watched the exchange between us with intent.
"Your stepbrother was ready to go out there, searching for you if you hadn't made it home just in time." His father remarked, breaking into a throaty laughter.
His words had no effect on the man besides him.
Kyren's face remained devoid of any expression as he lowered his eyes to his food and started to eat like a dog that had been starved for days. I didn't know that I was engrossed witj watching how he ate until my mother nudged my shoulder.
"Have you lost your sense of hearing?" She snarled.
I stiffened, "Huh?"
Victor chuckled, "Easy, Baby..." He smiled at my mother, before looking at me, "What was your major in college?"
I let out a silent breath, trying to steady myself. "Computer Technology."
"Cool. Kyren studied that too." He said, still smiling. "You two do have quite a lot in common. Have you considered where to run your internship?"
I looked over at my mother, pleading with my eyes for her to help me from the questioning. After All, she was the one who plucked me out of the city I had lived in my entire life..
Rather, she acted oblivious.
"Well..." Victor said after a moment of silence passed, "I've asked Kyren to put you in on the staff list at the company under his control, Ocean World."
My eyes widened with surprise.
He continued gingerly, "You'll be working directly under Kyren. You're lucky enough to have your big bro fot assistance."
The same big bro who was pounding at my p*say a few hours ago? A small, devilish voice mocked at the back of my head.
I forced myself to seem calm and unbothered.
There wasn't even any single look of emotion in his eyes as he glanced briefly at me before c*****g his head to the side in order to face his father. He dropped the fork in his hands.
"Dad." His husky voice rumbled, sending an unusual thrill down my spine. "Working with an amateur will reduce my efficiency, and—"
"That's why I want her to work under you. She's your sister, Kyren. Give her a chance to learn and make mistakes too."
"Mistakes? She obviously has a golden streak in that area." He muttered, as his attention returned to the food before him.
"Son!" His father said sharply.
He rolled his eyes, pulled back his seat and rose to his feet.
"I have some important documents to preview in the office today." He said, walking towards the main door.
"Kyren, won't you go along with your sister, Sienna?"
"I don't care how she shows up. None of my damn business." He yelled back as he stepped out and slammed the door behind him..
His father's face reddened, and his hands balled into fists, but my mother spoke up immediately, "Relax, My love. He'll get used to having Sienna around, soon"
Poor man, if only he knew.
If only he knew how long I had held my breath in the presence of his son, he wouldn't expect me to be just okay with running my internship program at his company.
