Chapter 5Al blanched. For the first time, I saw fear in his face as he focused on me. I could have whined out loud as pain rocked through me, but I shoved it away and gave him the brutal truth. “I’d even enjoy it. To take control like that he’d have to break me. I don’t know how much of the me you know would be left afterward.” Al seemed to wilt and then his jaw tightened “Okay, we’ll get you the f**k out of town right now.” I shook my head, aware of what they hadn’t told him when he’d been released from his debriefing. “Adams issued orders to have me shot if I try to leave.” I remembered the hateful smile on the man’s face as he’d informed me. “Apparently, telling Jacks and Cannon to stay away was treason, at least as far as Adams was concerned, and I don’t dare tell him why I did it.”
