PROLOGUE
It was a peaceful Sunday evening at the Amangula coffee farm until a rickety white van carrying over thirty men drove in. The fierce looking men, wielding metal rods, machetes and stones jumped out and began charging towards Mandu and his men, who were shocked. Mandu, who was the owner of the farm, suspected that the men were sent to force him out of the farm. With only fifteen men on his side, he realized they had been set up and ordered everyone to leave the farm. However, the opposing group caught up with them, and a violent fight ensued. In the chaos, Isaiah a coffee thief who frequented the farm at sundown to steal coffee, found himself caught in the crossfire. He ran towards the backend of the farm for safety and saw a building in flames with people inside shouting for help. He rushed towards the burning building and discovered that someone had hinged the handle of the door, trapping the occupants inside. As he struggled to break the door open, he heard voices coming from the farm, and realized the fighting was getting closer to the building. Unfortunately, the fire had engulfed the building, causing him to run back to safety. As he mourned his inability to save the people inside, he heard the crying voice of a child. A little boy ran towards the burning building, calling out for his parents. Isaiah quickly ran towards him and grabbed the boy away from the building, and took him to a safer place, telling him that his parents had sent him to keep him safe. Isaiah waited in the bush for over thirty minutes, waiting for calm or police intervention. Suddenly, he heard an angry voice asking for the whereabouts of the boy, and he knew the boy in his care was a person of interest. He covered the boy’s ears and moved deeper into the bush. Ten minutes later, the people were gone, and he could hear the blaring of sirens. He crawled closer to see who they were and saw it was a private security company with armed men. He then saw a middle-aged man come out of a vehicle, and when the man saw the burning building, he sat on the ground and started to cry. Convinced that these were the good guys, Isaiah gently carried the boy and approached them. When the grieving man saw Isaiah and the boy, he got up and quickly ran towards them, and took the boy from Isaiah. Isaiah quickly explained that he saved the boy from getting into the burning building. When the little boy corroborated his story, the grieving man thanked him and then begged him not to mention anything about the boy to anyone. He gave Isaiah his contact information, and then left. Afraid of being seen on the farm and becoming a target, Isaiah left the farm in hiding, with tears in his eyes, still holding onto the memory of the burning building and the young boy.
