WHISPERS OF THE SEA Chapter One The Return The train arrived at Ravenshore just before sunset. Rain slid down the windows in thin silver lines as Ayla Khan sat quietly beside the glass. Beyond the blurred landscape, the sea slowly appeared—dark, endless, and strangely familiar. Ten years. Ten years had passed since she had left this town. Ten years since she had promised herself that she would never return. Yet life had a cruel habit of bringing people back to the places they spent years trying to forget. Ayla tightened her fingers around the old leather bag resting in her lap. Inside it lay the last belongings of her mother: a few letters, a set of keys, and an old photograph whose edges had faded with time. The train finally stopped.
