Chapter 26

1388 Words

26 Sunlight stole into the guestroom and slammed into Melissa’s eyes. She slapped an arm over her face and looked at the clock. The digital numbers jumped out at her. She scrambled up and glowered at the fat beams of light dancing over the mattress. The sun was up. She was late. So very late. Melissa hopped out of bed and dragged on a T-shirt and yoga pants. She rushed to Nick’s room and knocked on the door. “Nick! Nick!” There was no reply. Melissa sighed and leaned her head against the door. She’d overslept because someone had kissed her senseless last night and she couldn’t stop thinking about it. Nick needed to understand that the kiss was personal and this was business. They couldn’t muddle the water. “Nick!” Melissa rapped on the door again. “You need to get up!” Nothing.
