Cold, calculating, possessive, and dangerously intelligent, he has spent years building a reputation that makes even his enemies think twice before challenging him.But beneath his power lies a man haunted by betrayal.Years ago, the woman he loved, Valentina Rossi, secretly passed information about his organization to his greatest enemy. Her betrayal cost Alessandro the lives of men he considered family and nearly cost him his own life. Since then, he has sworn never to let love make him vulnerable again. When Isabella and Alessandro meet on their blind date, neither knows the other's true identity. Their first encounter is filled with sharp words, unexpected attraction, and a battle of wills. Isabella refuses to be intimidated by his arrogance, while Alessandro cannot understand why a woman he has just met can challenge him so effortlessly. He tells himself she is only a distraction. She tells herself she will never see him again.Neither keeps that promise. As their paths become increasingly entangled, Alessandro discovers that Isabella's presence threatens the emotional walls he has spent years building. He wants to protect her, control every danger surrounding her, and keep her close. Yet his greatest fear is that loving her will give his enemies the perfect weapon against him. That fear becomes reality when Viktor Volkov, a powerful Russian crime lord, begins a calculated campaign to destroy Alessandro's empire.Viktor wants everything Alessandro possesses: his businesses, his allies, his reputation, and his power. But revenge is his deepest motivation. He believes Alessandro is responsible for the death of someone he loved, and he intends to make Alessandro suffer for it.However, the truth behind their bloody rivalry is more complicated than either man realizes. Someone may have manipulated them both, turning grief and suspicion into a war that has lasted for years. When Viktor discovers Isabella's importance to Alessandro, she becomes a target. But Isabella is more than a weakness to be exploited. As danger closes in, she begins uncovering the secrets surrounding her missing mother and discovers that her family is connected to an old Italian Mafia dynasty. The truth changes everything she believes about herself and her place in the world.Betrayals will be exposed. Old enemies will return. Alessandro's former lover, Valentina, will reappear with secrets that could destroy the fragile bond developing between him and Isabella.Their love will be tested by jealousy, lies, dangerous alliances, family secrets, and a war that threatens to consume everything they have built.Alessandro must decide whether love is truly a weakness or the one thing powerful enough to change him.Isabella must decide whether to remain the woman Alessandro wants to protect or become a force powerful enough to stand beside him.She will not remain an ordinary woman forever. She will rise, claim her inheritance, build her own power, and prove that she does not need to hide behind a king to rule a kingdom.By the time the final war begins, the world will discover that Italy's most feared Mafia King has found something more dangerous than an enemy: a woman who can challenge him, love him, and stand against him without fear.Together, Isabella and Alessandro must uncover the truth behind their enemies, survive the betrayals that threaten to separate them, and decide what kind of empire they want to build.Their journey will lead to heartbreak, sacrifice, reconciliation, and a love neither of them expected to find.In the end, Isabella will become a powerful Mafia Queen, ruling beside Alessandro as an equal. They will build a family and an empire that reflects their strength, loyalty, and hard-won trust. But before the devil can learn to love, he must first learn how to bleed. He is the Mafia King. The Man Waiting At Table Seven
Isabella Moretti stood in front of her bedroom mirror, staring at her reflection as though the woman looking back at her had personally betrayed her. She adjusted the strap of her black dress, tilted her head, and sighed. A blind date. At twenty-one, she had better things to do than sit across from a stranger and pretend to be interested in his favorite color, childhood memories, and financial ambitions. She could spend the evening watching a movie, eating pizza, or finishing the book she had abandoned three days earlier. Instead, she was getting ready to meet a man whose name she barely knew. Her phone vibrated on the bed. GIULIA: Are you ready? ISABELLA: No. GIULIA: Are you dressed? ISABELLA: Unfortunately. GIULIA: Then stop complaining and leave! Isabella picked up her phone and called her best friend. Giulia answered immediately. "Before you start," Giulia said, "I'm not accepting any excuses." "Good evening to you too." "Isabella, you promised." "I promised to consider going. I never promised to enjoy myself." "You've been single for so long that you've started treating every man like a criminal." "Some of them deserve the suspicion." Giulia groaned dramatically. "He's handsome, successful, and single. What more do you want?" "His full name, for starters." "I told you his name." "You told me his first name. When I asked about his surname, you said it wasn't important." "Because it isn't! You're meeting him for dinner, not investigating his family tree." Isabella laughed despite herself. Her best friend had been trying to arrange a date for months. Isabella had rejected every suggestion until Giulia finally announced that she had found someone worth meeting. Apparently, Giulia's cousin knew the man's younger sister, and the two women had decided that their friends deserved a chance at happiness. Isabella remained unconvinced. "Listen," Giulia continued, her voice softening. "Just give him one evening. If you don't like him, you can leave. Nobody is forcing you to marry the man." "Good, because I'm not planning to." "Wonderful. Now go before you're late." Isabella ended the call, collected her handbag, and checked her appearance one last time. She was not looking for a husband. She was not searching for a rich man to rescue her. She simply wanted to live her life without people treating her relationship status like a national emergency. Still, she had promised Giulia. And Isabella Moretti kept her promises. She switched off the bedroom light and left. She had no idea that one dinner would introduce her to a world more dangerous than anything she had ever imagined. --- Across Milan, Alessandro De Luca stood beside the floor-to-ceiling windows of his private office, watching the city lights flicker beneath the evening sky. His expression was unreadable. Behind him, his younger sister, Sofia, sat on the edge of his desk, swinging one leg impatiently. "You're going," she announced. Alessandro didn't turn around. "No." "Yes." "No." Sofia folded her arms. "I already made the reservation." "Cancel it." "I also told her friend that you'd be there." "Then apologize." "And explain what? That my brother is emotionally unavailable, unnecessarily arrogant, and incapable of spending two hours with a woman without treating her like a business negotiation?" "That would be accurate." Sofia stared at him. "Sometimes I genuinely wonder whether you're human." "That makes two of us." She threw her hands into the air. Alessandro finally turned from the window. At thirty-one, he had built a reputation that made powerful men careful with their words. His business empire stretched across several industries, and his influence reached places ordinary businessmen would never dare to enter. He was wealthy, disciplined, and terrifyingly intelligent. But money and power had never taught him how to trust again. Years earlier, he had loved Valentina Rossi. He had trusted her with information that could destroy his organization, believing that she was the one person who would never betray him. He had been wrong. Valentina secretly passed information about his organization to an enemy. The consequences were brutal. Men Alessandro considered brothers lost their lives, his organization was nearly brought to its knees, and Alessandro himself narrowly escaped death. Valentina disappeared before he could uncover everything she had done. Since then, he had buried his emotions beneath work, control, and carefully constructed walls. Love was a weakness. Trust was a mistake. And mistakes cost lives. Sofia's voice pulled him from his thoughts. "She's not Valentina." His jaw tightened. "I know that." "Then stop punishing every woman for what one woman did to you." Alessandro's eyes hardened. "Be careful, Sofia." She sighed, recognizing the warning. "I'm only asking you to have dinner. That's all. Her name is Isabella Moretti, she's twenty-one, and apparently she doesn't allow anyone to intimidate her." "That sounds exhausting." "You might like her." "I doubt it." "You haven't even met her." "And I already regret agreeing." Sofia slid off the desk and straightened her jacket. "Eight o'clock. Table seven. Don't embarrass me." "I don't embarrass people." "You frighten them." "Then they should behave better." Sofia shook her head and headed toward the door. Before leaving, she turned around. "And Alessandro?" He raised an eyebrow. "Try to smile." The door closed behind her. Alessandro looked at his watch. Dinner. Two hours at most. Then he could return to work. He had no intention of allowing a stranger to change anything about his life. --- At eight seventeen, Isabella entered the restaurant in central Milan and immediately wondered whether she had mistaken the address. The place was breathtaking. Crystal chandeliers hung above polished marble floors. Soft music drifted through the room, and elegantly dressed guests occupied tables decorated with white roses and expensive glassware. Isabella glanced at her dress. It was simple, black, and perfectly respectable. Still, she suddenly felt as though she had walked into a world where everyone knew the price of everything and the value of nothing. A waiter approached. "Good evening, signorina. Do you have a reservation?" "I'm meeting someone. Table seven." "Of course. Please follow me." She followed him through the restaurant, trying to ignore the nervous flutter in her stomach. Then she saw the man waiting at table seven. He wore a black suit that fitted his broad shoulders perfectly. His dark hair was neatly styled, and a silver watch rested against his wrist. His features were striking, his jaw firm, and his expression so cold that Isabella briefly wondered whether the restaurant had hired him to frighten customers into behaving. He was looking at his phone when the waiter approached. "Signore, your guest has arrived." The man lifted his head. His dark eyes settled on Isabella. For a moment, neither spoke. Then he glanced at his watch. "You're late." Isabella blinked. That was his greeting? She placed one hand on the back of the empty chair. "And you're rude. I suppose we've both made an excellent first impression." The waiter's eyes widened slightly before he excused himself. The stranger stared at Isabella. Most people would have apologized by now. Some would have offered excuses. Others would have become uncomfortable beneath his gaze. She did none of those things. Instead, she pulled out her chair and sat down. "Are you always this welcoming?" she asked. "Are you always this argumentative?" "Only when someone gives me a reason." Something shifted in his expression. It might have been surprise. Or amusement. He leaned back in his chair. "Alessandro." Isabella waited. When he said nothing else, she raised an eyebrow. "Just Alessandro?" "Would you like my entire biography?" "No. A surname would be a reasonable beginning." "De Luca." "Isabella Moretti." For the briefest moment, Alessandro became completely still. The name had struck something inside him. Moretti. He concealed his reaction almost immediately, but his eyes sharpened as he studied her face. "Moretti?" he repeated. "Yes. Is that a problem?" "No." His answer was too quick. Isabella noticed. She simply decided not to pursue it yet. A waiter arrived with menus, and she opened hers with genuine interest. Alessandro watched her. She wasn't behaving like the women he usually encountered. She hadn't asked about his businesses, tried to impress him with her connections, or spent the first ten minutes complimenting his appearance. She seemed entirely comfortable being herself. It was irritating. It was also strangely refreshing. "What do you do?" she asked. "I manage businesses." "Which businesses?" "Several." She lowered her menu. "You're not very good at conversation, are you?" "And you ask a lot of questions." "Because you answer none of them." "Perhaps I enjoy being mysterious." "Perhaps you're just boring." Alessandro stared at her. Then he laughed. It was a quiet, unexpected sound, as though it had escaped before he could stop it. Isabella smiled triumphantly. "There. You can laugh. I was beginning to worry." "Don't become comfortable." "Don't worry. Your personality is making that difficult." For the first time in a long while, Alessandro found himself enjoying a conversation he had never wanted to have. He disliked that discovery. He disliked even more that he wanted to hear her speak again. --- Halfway through dinner, Alessandro's phone vibrated against the table. He glanced at the screen. An unknown number. The message contained only one sentence. You should ask your dinner companion what her mother was hiding. His fingers tightened around the phone. Before he could respond, another message appeared. The Moretti family has a history you know nothing about. Be careful, De Luca. Some bloodlines should remain buried. Alessandro read the words twice. His mood changed instantly. The restaurant continued around him, filled with conversation and laughter, but his attention had narrowed to the screen. Someone knew about the Morettis. Someone knew he was meeting Isabella tonight. And someone wanted him to understand that their meeting was not as innocent as it appeared. "Alessandro?" He locked his phone. Isabella was watching him. "Is everything all right?" "Yes." "You look like someone just threatened to burn down your house." "Would that concern you?" "Not particularly. Unless I was inside it." He almost smiled, but the message remained in his thoughts. He studied her face, searching for signs that she knew something. She appeared genuinely curious, completely unaware of the danger that might be approaching her. "Tell me about your family," he said. Isabella's expression softened. "There's not much to tell. My family is complicated, like everyone else's." "Where is your mother?" Her smile faded slightly. "I don't really know." Alessandro became still. "What do you mean?" "She disappeared when I was younger. I grew up without knowing the whole story." Isabella looked down at her glass. "My family doesn't talk about it much, and whenever I ask questions, everyone suddenly becomes uncomfortable." "Have you ever tried to find her?" "Of course." She looked back at him. "But it's difficult to search for someone when the people who knew her refuse to tell you anything." For the first time that evening, Alessandro had no immediate response. He thought about the message. He thought about her surname. And he thought about the possibility that someone had arranged this meeting for reasons neither of them understood. Across the restaurant, a man in a dark coat stood near the entrance, watching their table. His phone was pressed to his ear. "Yes," he whispered. "They're together." He listened. "No. She doesn't know who he is." Another pause. "Should I proceed?" The answer came quietly through the phone. The man lowered his head. "Understood." He ended the call and disappeared into the night. At table seven, Isabella reached for her handbag. "I should probably get going soon. I have work tomorrow." Alessandro looked at her. Part of him wanted her to leave immediately. Whatever was happening, he had no reason to involve an innocent woman in his problems. Another part of him wanted to keep her there until he understood why someone had chosen her name to send him a warning. He had spent years avoiding complications. Yet something told him that Isabella Moretti was about to become the biggest complication of his life. "Isabella," he said. She paused. "Yes?" "If someone asked you to stay away from a particular family, would you listen?" She frowned. "That depends. Why?" He held her gaze. "Because sometimes, the truth is more dangerous than the lies people tell you." Isabella studied him for several seconds. "Then perhaps people should stop lying." She stood, picked up her handbag, and offered him a small, challenging smile. "Thank you for dinner, Alessandro De Luca. It was certainly more interesting than I expected." Before he could answer, she turned and walked away. Alessandro watched her until she disappeared through the restaurant doors. Then he took out his phone and called a number he rarely used. The man on the other end answered immediately. "Yes, boss?" "I want everything you can find on Isabella Moretti. Her family, her mother, her history. Everything." "Is there a problem?" Alessandro looked at the empty chair opposite him. "I don't know yet." He ended the call. Outside, Isabella walked toward the street, unaware that a stranger had already begun investigating her life. And somewhere far beyond Milan, a man who had waited years for revenge received confirmation that the first move had been made. His name was Viktor Volkov. And he had just found a new way to hurt Alessandro De Luca.
