Waking Up Wet

1957 Words
David woke up cold and completely wet, it only took a moment for him to realize that he was lying in a pool of water. He tried to move, but he felt totally exhausted and weak. He had felt this feeling once before and that was when the regulator had first evolved his body with the energy from the last surge. But this did not make any kind of sense, the next energy surge was not for another two or three days, so why would it have come so early. It was strange, but David was not one to look a gift horse in the mouth. The last thing he remembered was his attempt at using his telepathy. And it worked, to an extent, until he completely overloaded his brain with the strain and was thrust into a torture of epic proportions. David felt really stupid at that moment. It was incredibly dangerous to use any kind of mental ability with just a level one mental stat. Even people who are at level two can only use their abilities towards the later half of the level. He was basically asking for a painful death. He was incredibly lucky he was still alive. David tried to move, but his body felt incredibly heavy, he itched all over and his muscles burned. He heard the water making ripples as he struggled to get his feet under him, then he heard a hiss. He froze, at first he thought it was those cats again, and felt incredibly unlucky, but then from beneath the water an eel bigger than any eel David has had the pleasure of meeting came up. Its body had patterns like those of a cat fish, it even had the trademark whiskers. Whiskers that at this moment were letting out silver sparks of electricity. It had no jaws, just a round mouth filled with rows and rows of sharp teeth. David gulped in fright and cursed in annoyance, but the eel did not seem to care about his rather colorful words as it jumped right for his face, jaws opened wide. When it was just a hairs breath away from David, something flashed out of the water and dragged the eel back into the water. David heard thrashing and squealing as whatever had grabbed the eel seemed to be getting the better of the exchange. A minute later everything was silent and he felt something swimming through the water around him, in fact there was more than one unknown creature swimming around him like a shark circling it’s prey. David hoped it really wasn’t a shark. Then he felt a little amount of pressure as one of whatever it was that was swimming through the water decided to climb his body. David shivered and slowly looked down in terror only to see a bizarre grinning face. “Seriously? Are you trying to give me a heart attack or something?” The tortoise leaned its head to one side in confusion at David’s question. But even then it didn’t stop grinning. It was later joined by the other two, each of them still sporting the same grin. David berated himself for it, they were just babies and he had been a bad influence on them. When you tell a bull dog to smile it is one of the most horrifying sights on earth, this situation was exactly the same. Small as they were this three tortoises gave grins that insinuated impending doom. David gave a sigh of relief, so he was being protected by the tortoises, he should probably give them a name or something. But it was hard to differentiate among the three of them who was who. They were basically identical triplets and had everything the same down to the mole on their butts (not that they had a mole or anything, it was just an expression.) But there was something more pressing at the moment, it finally dawned on David that he might have been out for a lot longer than he thought. Their previous splash with the eel had caused drops of the water he was lying on to fly into his eyes and mouth. And David knew there was only one body of water this salty……the sea. The island was sinking fast, and it seemed David had missed the most prime time to escape. He felt really foolish now, he was sorely intrigued by the idea of having superpowers, David of Pangea would not have given that much of a damn about it, after all powers were as common as the very air itself. David of earth however could not help himself, there was no such thing as powers on earth, any magical ability on earth usually end up being shady especially where he was from, most Africans had an extreme view of things like witchcraft or showcasing any kind of abilities that would not be considered normal. Of course things like that are not always looked at in an extreme light. Sometime such powers were a part of tradition and was legacy passed on for generations upon generations of children. On earth especially in Africa, people capable of doing really weird and mostly ‘evil’ stuff are know as witch doctors, herbalist, and the more traditionally accepted ones are the priests of African gods or In ancestral shrines, and finally the masquerades. But nothing on earth could ever compare to what Pangea had and could offer. Except for magic, people with abilities suffered from no prejudice and were treated like Gods, and with the way the world has changed, this people would most probably become the Gods. David was influenced and excited by the idea of being some sort of hero, and power, the power to do what would be considered the impossible. But David had pushed too far, and ended up in a really bad and dangerous situation. He was slowly regaining control of his body as he could now move his arms. The three tortoises with nothing else to do had gone to sleep on his chest. David was really grateful for their help in keeping him safe, but what could have brought on such loyalty was something he was terribly confused about. But apart from that he had to know how much his abilities had grown, so he activated the regulator. NAME: {DAVID JOHNSON IYE} AGE: {NINETEEN } PHYSIQUE : { LEVEL 1(2.93)} AGILITY : { LEVEL 1(1.69)} MENTAL: {LEVEL 2 (5.19)} PSY COLUMN: {LEVEL 1} PSIONIC ABILITIES: {TELEPATHY: LEVEL 2} {TELEKINESIS: LEVEL 0} {MOLECULAR RESTRUCTURE: LEVEL 0} {ENERGY LEVEL STABLE} {ESTIMATED TIME FOR NEXT ENERGY SURGE: 170:46:33} His abilities seemed to have seen an increase, even his agility which was the lowest factor of his physical ability. He should be thankful if he was not so weak. At least he had a better chance of survival with his improved stats, however it said here that his telepathic abilities had increased. Level two mental power or not, he was not too keen on trying out anything that had to do with telepathy, at least for now anyway. He would wait for his mental level to increase to a point he could feel safe with. His psy column was still level one, which meant his abilities were still considered weak and rather common among others of the same abilities. The psy column served as a measurement for the strength of a persons abilities, it rarely ever changed as it was used to also determine the grade and quality of an ability and also a person’s talent in training said abilities. Sometimes a person’s ability evolves to the point where its grade which is measured by the psy column could also increase. When a person’s ability or talent goes up the psy column, the persons abilities will experience a qualitative change, making it even more powerful and diverse. David was not to bothered about the psy column, he had two other abilities that would cover for the fact that all his abilities are considered the lowest grade of themselves. He had an ability for defense, attack and recon. He was way too balanced to care about the psy column. Thankfully he had another two weeks before the next energy surge, which hopefully should be enough time for him to be far away from this place and at least be in a safe Area. It took a few more minutes, but David was able to regain control of his body, but even with control he was still feeling very weak. The after effects of this energy surge seemed to be a whole lot worse than the first; as this time the heaviness was accompanied by painful aches. Nothing good ever comes easy, and this was a prime example of it. When David got to his feet he noticed the water came up to his knees, David was six foot two so, which meant the water was almost two feet high. Thankfully David had packed everything into the hover bike, so all that was left was for him to leave. However just leaving would be stupid. David took a few clothes from his bag and ran back up the stairs, he went to the room both his parents shared and took a keepsake, it was an ornately carved walking stick. It was made of a rare type of wood that was incredibly tough and resilient. The head of the walking stick had a half circle as its handle and on the body were carved figures of birds, butterflies and a dragon. The walking stick might not look at it, but it was actually a magic staff, it served as an amplifier for magic abilities and was on a grade higher than most staffs used by high level wizards. It was a keepsake from his grandfather, and the staff was supposed to be handed to his sister when she graduated School. Unfortunately his sister now worked for the military as a hound just like his father, unless she had a high enough rank any outside magic equipment apart from the ones provided by the government was forbidden. It was another way for them to keep controlling the magic users. David cleaned up and got changed into a pair of trousers while shamefully remembering that the previous one was soiled by filth that came out of his own body as if he was some child with no control over his bowels or bladder. The new trouser was slim but quite thick, he had on a bullet proof vest and two thigh holsters for this handguns. The bullet proof vest had a strap that held his battle blade, and the two silver daggers were in sheathes behind his waist. The two shotguns were also hung on his back with the battle blade being in the middle. The assault rifle hanged from his right shoulder. David was fully armed to the teeth, having this much weapons on his body, would most definitely affect his mobility, but David did not care, it was better to be safe than sorry. Every gun was armed, every blade was sharpened. With that out of the way David took the three tortoises and placed them into a back pack that he hung in front of him. It was as if he was carrying babies, which they are, but instead of humans they were turtles. David double checked and triple checked everything, when he was sure that everything was in place he raised his hand up, and the garage door went up from the motion. As soon as it was fully opened David saw a rather horrifying sight, two animals that he was rather sure used to be walruses, were fighting over the body of man.
