Drew was convinced that his family had to be at the mansion, he just knew that they were here somewhere. I couldn't believe that he had been in there with his dog Truman this long and hadn't once tried to leave. I was guessing that no one bothered him because of his dog being with him but I was also hoping that this wasn't going to end up being a regular thing since now I had 2 children to keep an eye and dog.
Everything going on was extremely dangerous and this was no place for children, the chances of them surviving without me was pretty much none though so I settled into the idea that I was stuck with them and would have to train them to be useful.
"We need to find somewhere to get some actual rest by the time we're ready to eat again, I'm going to have to scout around so keep up please." I said softly as I started to scout, I had to make sure no one was around and then start looking for a cubby in a tree or a cavern in a cliff. I wasn't really wanting to camp out in the open after all the crazy people I had already come into contact with.
We hadn't heard from the crazy lady in a while and as I was starting to wonder if we wandered off into an area with no reception the buzzing started and I heard her voice in my ears, Abby fell to the ground holding her head and Drew ran to her side not understanding what was going on. "I see some of you already haven't been following the rules and there's a traitor amongst my ranks that has been helping a non rule follower. I'll let you be with the children if you kill one of my assassins a day, no more leaving them for my creatures to have. I await the sight of your hands getting dirtied with human blood assassin. I hope to see you in person soon." the buzzing got worse and then disappeared again.
"Was she talking to me? I'm not an assassin... well, I..." How would she know who I actually am? I thought of everyone I had known back then but it had been 7 years so I wouldn't remember what they looked like now for most of the family, there would be children that were grown into young adults and baby's that were these children's ages. I would have to get to know these children better and maybe reveal a few secrets of my own to find out a bit more about them.
"Wait..." Abby shook her head in hopes it would make the ringing in her ears go away but it wasn't working so far, "Are you Abigail Porter? My Aunt Linda talked about her all the time and how she just up and disappeared out of nowhere. My Uncle was mean and I always hoped that the jurors would find him guilty, I didn't think in a million years that Linda would do this though."
"Tom didn't have a sister named Linda... How is she his sister and does that mean you're Libbys daughter?? and you're named after me??"
"Yes and yes, I am! She's his brothers widow, everyone in the family suspected that they killed him off together but there's no proof to show of it and it seems they've been seeing each other. Now that Tom's gone and there was no proof of your death, everything has been left to you.... she can't touch anything because his will never got changed, he swore to never marry again and it's all still yours."
I couldn't believe what I was hearing, my worst fears were coming true even with him gone. I did everything I was suppose to do and now he's gone but his problems were still haunting me because a crazy lady fell in love with him. My life was hard enough without this but I was concerned that my daughter and mother had been wrapped up in all of this now that I knew why I was here and why I had gotten beaten on while I was knocked out.
Now I needed to figure out who was helping me because she said it was someone that was suppose to be on her side but was helping me. Maybe she was talking about the mysterious young man that had been hiding in the tunnel behind the falling water? Thoughts kept flashing through my mind... he might not have went into the tunnels from that way at all, what if he knew where the tunnel led originally and had been using other tunnels to keep an eye on me. I wonder if Linda knew exactly where we were when we were in the hide aways or if we were GPS blobs that seemed to be off grid....
I decided to start searching for an opening of some sort to prove my theory about there being more hide aways stashed here and there but I didn't find anything so I started looking for a hole in the side of a tree. I figured we did pretty good with the hiding spot last time and I needed some sleep soon or I might pass out, some real sleep. I was starting to feel like I couldn't stay awake much longer and that was never a good sign for anyone in a normal situation. This situation, if I didn't find somewhere safe someone could die or we all could.
It took me a little while to find a hole in the side of a huge birch tree but I found one and we all crawled in but this time I blocked the entrance with our bags and we all got comfortable for some much needed rest.
When I woke up, I was sure it had only been a couple hours but I didn't think I could get back to sleep so I started grabbing bags to go through and as I did so we all fell through a hole that had appeared in the floor. As we slid down a slide and onto a soft pillow like surface, I noticed that no one had woken up and all of our things were still around us so I went back to sleep.
