When I woke up I could just barely see the sun coming up so I scooped Abby up in my arms to let her keep sleeping and grabbed the bags we had decided to keep before poking my head through the door. It looked peaceful enough and seemed to be outside of the structure so we could find our way to something somewhere at some point, hopefully.
I woke Abby up and we decided to head towards the stream that was around 50 feet away from us, then we followed it for a bit. Abby was attracted to a line of Willow trees and I decided we could investigate for a bit so we headed that way.
As we walked through the Willow trees hanging branches and leaves we could smell the rose and lavender essence in the water we saw rushing around in front of us. Rose bushes were scattered with falling pettles and lavender was growing along the edges of the water, I nudged Abby and pointed at the water.
"That's going to be the most amazing soak we'll ever have in our lives.... See the steam?" she looked over at the water and could see the white mist just barely coming off the water which meant it was warm and cozy. "The lavender creates a relaxing, calm affect and the rose will help heal your soul and body in so many ways, plus willow bark is used for pain relief and healing also. You coming in with me?"
I didn't wait to see her response, I walked over and took my boots off but nothing else. The water felt amazing and I figured it would clean my clothes and I could wash my hair thoroughly while I soaked. It wasn't long before she joined me, doing the same as I had done by only taking off her shoes and then coming in to stand with me.
It was nice to soak in the warm water and smell the fragrance while it lasted and I was glad I directed for us to only take our boots off because I started feeling something try to chew on my leg and picked Abby up immediately to get her out of harms way. The bite hurt in one spot like I had been punctured and I decided it was time to get out of the water to take a look.
"Did anything touch you?" I asked Abby.
"I thought I felt a fin of some type touch me but nothing that seemed hostile, why did you get us out of the water so fast?" as I walked up the small slop I could see blood running down my leg, "Are you alright!?"
"I'm not sure but I have to get in the bags and tigh this off so I don't lose much more blood. I'm sure my blood will attract more attention in the water and we'll get to see what all lives here but whatever bit me has razer sharp teeth for it to go through this wet suit so easily." she helped me go through a bag and we found my dress I had arrived here in, I tied it around my thigh so the bleeding would slow down. "Have you seen the honey that was in the original bag or the shea butter? I need both of them, if you can help me find them. I'm pretty sure there's gauze in here also...." I trailed off mumbling about what I was going to be doing and got to work slowing the bleeding and making sure that it was going to get infected, I gathered some willow sap to kill the pain and then we went back over to the edge of the water.
"What do thinks in there?" Abby asked as she gazed into the milky water.
"I'm not sure but I know one good way to find out...." I tied some fishing string on an arrow and shot it into the water, feeling a heavy tug almost immediately I pulled it back out to find a huge fish that I didn't recognize. It's teeth looked like rows apon rows of very sharp teeth and I didn't want to meet anymore of them so I removed the arrow and tossed the fish back in. "Hopefully that was a piranha and we don't have effects from poison to deal with or what not but I feel fine so far. Let's find a way out of here and try to get back to the creek, we still have to find this mansion and a gate."
We went back out through the willow trees we had came in through and looked around for a moment but nothing looked familiar. I noticed a path near by that looked like it lead through the trees and wasn't sure what else to do so that was our starting point. It took a little while but I ended up feeling the pain from my leg once we got deep in the woods so we took a break at a spot the had an old oak with a cubby spot in the bottom of it. The entrance wasn't very big but there was a nice size hole inside of it.
Once we got comfortable I started taking everything off that had been wrapped on my leg. It had bruised up but the cuts had healed up pretty nicely already, I was guessing that the rose and lavender mixed with willow sap would do that. My concoctions were good from all the herbs I'd found on our adventure and in bags I found but there's no way they would have done this. I put the old wrappings to the side and did a similar wrap in a bit looser of a situation. I shouldn't have to do this again next time, just take the bandages off.
I laid against the inside of the tree for a moment wanting to forget where I was and what was going on but I didn't stay that way long because Abby scoot herself closer to me out of nowhere. When I opened my eyes there was a large spider coming in the opening we had entered and she was frozen in shock. With no other exit, I would have to kill the spider fast so I reached my hand over to the holster on my side and threw a hatchet directly at its face. As it dropped to the ground I saw a second one preparing to climb over it so I reached over to my other side glad that the last bag had contained more weapons, this time I threw it at the torso and sliced it in half. I got over there faster than I probably should have to retrieve them and check for more intruders, my bandages must have attracted them we needed to get out of here but she still wasn't budging.
I gathered everything up and picked her up but another spider was coming in so I had to throw one of my hatchets again after putting her back down. "I can't hold you and fight these things.... you have to snap out of it.... I can teach you to fight if you'll throw these...." I handed her a knife set and went to get my hatchet, "Come on." she followed nervously but as we got out of the hole she saw a spider before I did and when she threw the knife it went straight through its head! "Great job! Now you have to go get your knife and wipe it off on the ground." she did as I asked and we split up bags to be carried as we slowly walked away from the hole in the tree.
When we got away from the tree we watched more spiders enter it and it seemed one of them ripped one up inside the hole and then came out with my bandages but didn't head our way. It was probably looking for me though so I wanted to get as far away from those creepy spiders as we possibly could get.
After helping kill spiders with me Abby seemed to loosen up a bit and got to chatting with me about her life, it turns out that the lady in our ears was her aunt from her father's side of her family and her mother was being held captive inside the mansion. She talked about never being here before and that she had heard a rumor that her aunt had stolen some land and had the owner hostage or something of that sort. It was amazing that this was the same little girl that I had saved because she was extremely talkative and all over the place now, the energy this girl had was amazing. "Do you have a family? Why are you here? I for sure thought I was a goner up until you showed me that I can defend myself, I can be useful! My aunt gave me, my cousin and her mother to those men and she had planned for all of us to die but you saved me." she rattled on and on, "I'm sorry, I'm not very useful." she looked at me looking a bit sad.
"Why would you think that you aren't useful? You know how to climb like a pro, you hit your target your first try with that knife, you haven't complained once about anything I've asked of you or any of the food we've had to eat and you're a fast study in general. Plus, you've been good company to have around, I'm glad I found you when I did." she ran over and hugged me tightly.
Screaming in the distance.....
"Let's go see what's over there, ok?" she nodded nervously but followed me anyways. There was nothing within sight so I wasn't sure if we were going in the right direction but the sound was getting louder. Our main problem was when it stopped all together because we had no choice but to stop and wait for it to start again since we couldn't find anything to aim for go to, only sound to follow.
Sometimes it sounded like sobbing for a small child and other times it was quite literally screaming but not anything that seemed like a pain scream so I wasn't sure if this was a good idea after a while. I mean if you think about it we aren't the only ones out here and that was a great deal of noise this kid was making, what would we do if someone or something dangers was there waiting for us?
"I'm not sure this is a good idea.... Are you really up for this?"
