Another Body?
Pain. That was the last thing I remembered. The blare of a car horn, screeching tires, and then the blinding impact. One second, I wasa driving through the city with my phone buzzing oj the dashboard, my mind racing with a thousand unfinished thoughts- and the next, there was an unnaturally loud ringing in my ears. I was someone who had always wished that my death would be painless, maybe by falling asleep or sneezing once and dying or something but I just had to get the shorter end of the stick I didn't bargain for. I was scared of death but the fear I felt in death was greater than any fear I had felt in my entire time on earth. It felt like I was falling into an abyss and it was terrifying. Whatever was happening made my mind spin with fear. What made it worse was that I couldn't see anything so I couldn't tell if I was in a situation where anything could jump out at me. I couldn't even tell what situation I was in at all! My fear and panic grew with each passing second and as if there was a stop button for everything, it was all over. Death was supposed to be the end, where it would be decided whether I was a good or bad person and then, I would be sent to amy place befitting of my character. At least, I thought it was. But then I opened my eyes. And everything felt...wrong. I gasped sharply like I had been holding my breath for ages. I sat up, disoriented, reaching for my stomach, expected a seatbelt to be clasped around it but there was none. No car, no crushed metal, no flickering city lights. There wasn't even the smell of burning because I could have sworn I smelt gasoline before my eyes had shut on their own. I wasn't even on a road. I was in a bed. A large ancient looking bed layered with thick blankets and dark wood panelling. I blinked. Once. Twice. Maybe even thrice. I couldn't even count due to shock. My hand naturally reached for my phone on the bed side table and there was none. No,no,no,no,no. This has to be some kind of cruel trick. What...was going on? ''Jeremiah, I am sorry for what I did to you in high school. I know you said you would have your revenge but this is too much.'' I laughed nervously. I had pranked Jeremiah in high school by telling everyone he wet his bed every night and then I snuck into his dorm room one morning and poured water all over his pants. Then, I took a video and posted it on the school forum. It was mean thinking of it now but he was the one who started the war when he spray painted my car for no particular reason. My heart thudded loudly in my chest and I looked down at my hands. They were slender and smooth and definitely not mine. My original hands were rough from all the dish washing I had done over the years. My eyes glanced around the room and then I noticed a dressing mirror placed to the left of the door. I stumbled to my feet, wobbling slightly as the room spun around me. I hesitated before stepping towards the mirror. Please let this be a dream. I hope I wake up passed out from staying up late at night and binge watching movies as usual. But it wasn't a dream. The girl in the reflection wasn't me. She was beautiful-ethereal, even almost unreal. Long auburn air fell in soft waves around her shoulders and then cascaded down her back. Her eyes were large, a strange shade of both amber and gold, and her face was heart-shaped with high cheekbones and full lips. I reached up and touched my cheek, watching every little movement in the mirror. You know what? Maybe, just maybe, I could take this face with me when I return back to my house. This wasn't my face. But at the same time, it felt like it was. I didn't even get to scream before the door burst open. ''Luna!'' a woman gasped, rushing with barely enough time to breathe. She looked startled but relieved, almost like this body had been unconscious for a while but I also couldn't mistake the fear in her eyes. She was afraid. Of this body. I had to turn back to see if she was addressing someone in the room. There wasn't a Luna in here. ''Um..yeah..hello..um..miss. Nice to meet you too but I don't think there is a Luna in here. Maybe look around the corner somewhere. I am sure you will find her.'' I finished and she looked at me like I had grown two heads. ''I will get the others.'' She bowed before leaving the room. A few minutes later, she came back in with two other maids and they all looked at me for a moment before bowing all together. The other two were also scared of me. It showed in their eyes and I wasn't too sure but it felt like they were disgusted by me even though they did the job of hiding it perfectly. But for now, I couldn't bring myself to care. Instead, I just bowed after the maids had raised their heads up and their jaws seemed to almost seemed to drop from shock. Wasn't it a normal thing to return greetings here? I guess not. ''Do you know how to get home from here, ma'am? I think I would need directions since I don't have a phone here. Or do you perhaps have one?'' I muttered and they all gave me a strange look. The maid that had first come in nudged one of the other maids. ''Get the Alpha. I think the Luna is suffering from the after effects of the medicines.'' Huh? What was she saying? I just needed directions to get home. And why the heck did they keep calling me Luna? Oh, I get it now. Maybe it was the owner of this body's name.
