The plot to kill
MAYA’S POV
As I walked through the forest, the leaves crunched under my feet, and the smell of pine filled my nose. The full moon was bright in the sky, casting a pale blue light over everything. It was a beautiful night, but my thoughts were consumed with revenge.
I thought back to the night my parents were killed by the Lycan king. He had come to our village with his pack, seeking revenge for a perceived slight. My parents had been innocent bystanders, caught in the crossfire of a fight they had nothing to do with. The king had shown no mercy, tearing them apart in front of my eyes.
Ever since that night, I had been plotting my revenge. I had trained and prepared myself for this moment. And today was the day. The day of the ceremony.
Every full moon night is considered a special gift by the crystal pack members because it signifies that both their alpha and the pack members honored the moon goddess throughout a particular season. In order to celebrate the night, they would throw a big feast and send a maiden to entertain and please the Lycan king for the night. And I had every intention of being that maiden.
I knew it was risky, putting myself in such close proximity to the Lycan king, but I was confident in my abilities. I had planned everything down to the smallest detail. I had even made sure to wear a dress that would catch his eye.
As I arrived at the ceremony, I scanned the crowd, looking for the king. My heart raced as I caught a glimpse of him. He was even more handsome than I had imagined, with piercing blue eyes and a strong jawline.
I took a deep breath and stepped forward, hoping he would choose me for the night. I knew I had to impress him, so I put on my best smile and curtsied as I approached.
"Good evening, Your Highness," I said, trying to sound confident.
The king looked me up and down, taking in my appearance. "And who might you be?" he asked.
"My name is Maya, Your Highness," I replied, keeping my voice steady.
"Well, Maya, you certainly are a vision," the king said, his eyes lingering on my curves.
I could feel the heat rising in my cheeks as I tried to maintain my composure. This was it. My chance to get close to him and take him out.
As the night wore on, I found myself drawn to the king. We talked and laughed, and I could feel the chemistry between us. It was a dangerous game, but I couldn't help myself.
Before I knew it, the king was leading me to his private quarters. My heart raced as I followed him, the excitement and fear mingling together.
Once we were alone, the king turned to me, his eyes dark with desire. "You are even more beautiful up close," he said, his voice low and husky.
I could feel my resolve slipping away as I looked into his eyes. He was so close, and I could feel the heat of his body. This was it. My chance to get close to him and take him out. I could also tell he was drunk, making my task more easier.
But instead of attacking him, I found myself drawn to him, unable to resist his touch. We kissed, and I could feel the electricity between us. It was like nothing I had ever experienced before.
As we made love, I knew I was making a mistake. I should have stuck to my plan, but I couldn't help myself. I was falling for him, and I knew it was dangerous.
I woke up the next morning, my body still tangled in the sheets of the Alpha King's bed. A wave of guilt and regret washed over me as I remembered what had happened the night before. I had been so focused on my plan to kill him that I didn't expect to feel such a strong attraction to him. But there was no time to dwell on my emotions. I quickly gathered my clothes, tiptoeing around the room as silently as possible, trying not to wake him up.
Once I was dressed, I took one last look at the sleeping Lycan King before I fled out of his room with the poison I had wanted to kill him with in my hand. I had picked it up from where it had fallen.I made my way back home. My heart was heavy with shame and confusion as I thought about what I had done. I had failed in my mission, and worse yet, I had betrayed my parents' memory by giving into my desires for their killer.
When I finally arrived at my home, my friend Akayla was waiting for me, eager to hear the news of my success. But as soon as she saw my expression, her face fell. "What happened?" she asked, concern etched in her voice.
"I... I couldn't do it," I replied, feeling tears prick at the corners of my eyes.
Akayla's expression softened, and she put her arm around me in a comforting gesture. "It's okay, Maya. You don't have to do this alone. We'll find another way to get revenge for your parents."
But just as we were discussing our options, there was a sudden knock on the door. Akayla went to answer it, and I could hear the muffled voices of two men speaking in low tones. My heart raced as I realized that the Lycan King must be looking for me.
Akayla returned to the room, a panicked expression on her face. "Maya, we have to leave. The Lycan King is looking for you, those men came her to ask if I had seen a woman of your description."
"What? Why is he looking for me? This was just supposed to be a one-night thing." I said, feeling a sense of dread wash over me.
"I don't know, but we have to go now, we have to hide until everything dies down. We can stay at my grandmas" she replied, grabbing my arm and pulling me towards the back door of the house. She was right, we can’t stay here because his men might have left now, but they may return again.
As we fled into the forest behind my home, I couldn't help but feel a sense of despair. My plan to kill the Lycan King had failed, and now I was on the run from him. But I knew that I couldn't give up just yet. I had to find a way to make things right and get revenge for my parents' death.
And so, we ran deep into the forest, hoping everything would die down and they would stop the search in other for us to return back to our home.
