Prologue and Characters
Prologue
The vidai was over. Ananya Sharma, now Ananya Singh Rathore, had left in a cloud of marigold petals and whispered promises. Her younger sister, Kavya, stood at the balcony of their ancestral Jaipur haveli, watching the last taillight of the convoy disappear into the monsoon mist.
She wasn’t sad. She was hollow.
For three years, Kavya had secretly admired Dev Rathore—not her jiju, but the man behind the title. The sharp jaw, the rare half-smile, the way his presence commanded every room in his billion-dollar empire. She’d written his name in invisible ink on her diary pages, then burned them. He was her sister’s destiny. Not hers.
But tonight, as she clutched the railing, a strange premonition slithered down her spine. Ananya had looked… relieved. Not like a bride leaving her home. Like a prisoner escaping a sentence.
Kavya shook her head. Stop being foolish.
She didn’t yet know that tomorrow, Dev Rathore would wake up alone. That a note and divorce papers would shatter two families. That her own mangalsutra was already being weighed on a jeweler’s scale, three kilometers away.
This is not a love story that begins with a wedding.
It begins with a wreckage.
Character Sketches
Dev Singh Rathore (32) – Billionaire heir to Rathore Group (luxury resorts & forest conservation). Tall, broad-shouldered, with a perpetually grumpy expression that hides a deeply sensual, loyal core. He married Ananya out of family duty. He never expected to find his true match in the girl who used to refill his chai shyly at family gatherings. His love language? Possessive touch, silent protection, and a slow-burn that turns volcanic.
Kavya Sharma (23) – The "most beautiful" girl in their social circuit, but unaware of her own power. Soft, curvy, with large doe eyes and a smile that makes men forget their names. A children’s book illustrator who lives in the forests of Ranikhet (her happy place). She has crushed on Dev for years but buried it deep. Innocent in experience but wildly curious in imagination. Her kink? Unknowingly sensual—she has a feeding fantasy she’s never told a soul.
Ananya Sharma (26) – The older sister. Conventional beauty, sharp tongue, secretly in love with her childhood friend, Rohan. She fled not out of malice, but cowardice. Returns only in flashbacks and phone calls.
Mr. & Mrs. Rathore – Dev’s parents. Traditional but practical. After the scandal, they retire to their village home near Ranthambore, blessing the second marriage.
Rohan Mehta – Ananya’s secret lover. Never appears on page, only as a shadow motivation.
