Office Romance

Although a couple of hours had passed, the thought of her encounter with Neron and Damon didn't leave Bella's head, and she absent-mindedly stared at the computer strain, wondering how much effect this was going to have on her relationship with Neron. Even though he didn't seem mad, she saw the shift in his emotions when she told him that she didn't have any feelings for Damon, and she couldn't help but feel like he could tell that she lied. It wasn't like her words were totally lies because what she feels for Damon is nothing compared to the way she loves Neron. But that didn't change the fact that Damon also makes her heart throb and leaves her with sensations that she dare not admit. "Look alive, Shelby is coming." A whisper drew Bella's focus to a girl seated beside her. Then she gave a smile and mumbled, "Thanks, Lily." Since she arrived in the department, Lily was the only one who approached her and had been quite friendly towards her, and even though Bella was uncomfortable about it because of what happened between her and Jane… Emma. But even though She didn't trust anyone and wasn't comfortable with Lily, she thought it would be rude to ignore her. The room immediately grew awfully silent as everyone sat in their seats, and Bella looked back to see a young lady approaching, her eyes cold with a touch of pride in them. "Why are you all lacking in your work! Your budget report is garbage!" Shelby shouted, the sound of her heels echoing in the room. "You all should know how important this new project is to the company! How can you submit such garbage as a report!" Her tone made Bella nervous, and she faced her front, praying that she didn't reach them. But Lily grabbed her attention when she mumbled, "Shelby has been working here for a while, and it's no secret that she has a thing for the chairman…" "Neron?" Bella whispered subconsciously. "Wow, you even call him by his first name. I heard that you are close to him. What is he like? Is he always cold…" "I…" Goosebumps suddenly washed on Bella's skin when she heard Shelby's heels stop at her chair and a tap on her shoulder. Slowly, she looked back, gazing at the bitter look in her eyes as she mumbled, "So, you are the reason Richard got sent to another branch!" Feeling extremely nervous, Bella rushed to her feet, extended her hand, and let out, "Good morning, Shelby. I am Bella. The new intern of this department. It's an honor to meet you." "What an ass kisser." Shelby scoffed, rolling her eyes. Anger spiked in Bella, but she deeply inhaled, keeping a calm expression, even though she hated the bare sight of Shelby. Yet she didn't want to create any trouble for Neron on her first day of work. After everything she had been through, and he had gone through for her, she didn't want to create another issue, especially at his business. The sound of faint laughter echoed in the room, and feeling ashamed, Bella drew her hand to her side when Shelby mumbled, "Is that how you got Mr. Flame to give you this job, by kissing his ass?" Dropping her gaze to the floor, Bella held her breath as she pinched her skirt, knowing that she couldn't defend herself because she didn't feel like she deserves the position either. "Are you mute?" Shelby asked in annoyance. "Are you going to be a liability to this department?" Immediately, Bella raised her head and cried, "No, I promise to work hard and not let you, or the department down." "Good," Shelby let out, looking at Lily, and then she tossed a folder on the desk. "That report is yours. You two should work on it tonight and return it tomorrow!" After Shelby walked away, Lily looked at the folder and pouted, looking so miserable that Bella couldn't help to ask, "What is it?" "I have a date tonight," Lily whispered with moist eyes and a pleading expression. There was a long pause as Bella gazed at the folder. Then she picked it up, stared at it for a while, and mumbled, "It's fine. I will take care of it." Rushing into Bella's arms, Lily hugged her tightly and cried out, "You are literally an Angel! I promise to pay you back for being so good to me." A sense of awkwardness overwhelmed Bella. But she simply smiled and mumbled, "It's nothing. I don't have any plans for tonight." Once Lily let go of her and focused back on her computer, Bella let out a silent sigh, picked up the folder, and shoved it into her bag. Then she peeked back at the door, feeling glad that she convinced Addo and Diana to stay out, knowing that Neron would have found out about this situation if they were with her. After reviewing the last document on his desk, Neron sluggishly dropped the pen and rested back in his seat. Then he let out a sigh as he slightly loosened his tie, feeling a bit of tension in his neck. When his eyes caught a glance at his phone, he hesitated, mumbling, "I wondered how she's handling her first day. Should I take her out for dinner to congratulate and cheer her up?" A couple of seconds went by with him rethinking his thoughts. Then he picked up his phone, went through his contact list, and dialed Bella's number. The sudden sound of her phone vibrating startled her, and she stared at the screen to see Neron's name. Hastily, Bella picked it up, glancing at Lily, eyeing her before answering the call and mumbled, "Hello," A smile defined Neron's lips when he heard her voice, and he calmly uttered, "How's your first day going?" "Good," Bella mumbled, feeling happy and slightly worried at the same time. People had already started treating her differently because they believed that she knew him. The last thing she wanted was for them to find out exactly what their relationship was. "Is that all you call about?" Bella whispered, hoping to end the call soon. "No. Would you be my date tonight?" Neron said as he sat up straight, wondering why she was talking so low. "I know this very fancy restaurant." "Yes," "Okay. I will pick you up from your department after work." "No!" The raise in her voice left Bella feeling more uneasy because she could feel more eyes on her now, and she mumbled, "Send me the address and we will meet you there." "Bella," Neron let out. "I got to go, sorry." "Seriously!" When the call cut off in his ear, his face hardened, and he tossed his phone on the desk, huffing to release the anger building up in him. "So much for office romance!" Neron blurted out, scowling when a knock on his door echoed in the room.
