Rainy
"Rainy! Hurry up let's go! We're going to miss Guru Sage lighting the peaceful torch!" Aster wines from my bed as I finish braiding my hair. I cringe at the title of "Guru" my father thought words like "Alpha" and "Beta" were too aggressive. he banished all titles except his own so our community would feel more like one collective instead of a title to diminish weaker wolves so only the stronger ones felt better about themselves.
"I'm almost done hold on." I roll my eyes and stare at myself in the full length mirror. my long brown hair braided down the side laying between my breasts. My blue eyes seeming duller than normal. and of course my smile that never touches my eyes. my gaze travels down my body over my all my curves in just the right places. I sigh before stepping out of the room.
"finally!" she jumps up and throws me my shoes.
I slip them on and lock arms with her "let's go I'm starving!"
Aster leans into me and giggles "you are always hungry Rainy."
I shrug she's right. most wolves eat a lot but I have always tended to eat more than others.
We head out the front door and follow the other pack members to the fire circle. We sit near the front close to mom and dad.
"Room for one more?" Parker pokes his head between us before pushing us apart and squeezing in.
I giggle and smack his arm "not like you give us much of a choice."
He smiles at me with his big toothy grin before slinging his arm around Aster's shoulders. "miss me beautiful?"
Aster blushed slightly and nudged him with her shoulder "you know I always do babe." they start passionately making out next to me.
Ever since they found out they were mates a few months ago after Aster turned eighteen they have become almost unbearable to be around. I love them to pieces but they are nauseating.
"If I am ever this disgusting with my future mate please just shoot me." I groan inwardly. it's not like I really want a mate but I would be nice to have someone who loved me they way Parker loves Aster. as annoying as they are it is beautiful to witness.
Aster giggled and started swinging her legs. "Only one more week till your birthday Rainy! then maybe you and Ryker will be just like us!" she gazes lovingly at Parker and he gently kisses her lips.
I glance over my shoulder to the back row where Ryker is sitting with none other than Blue, or as I like to call her, the pack slut. I don't think there is a man in this pack she hasn't spent the night with.
I lean back on my hands and gaze into the fire. in all honesty I hope my mate is not in this pack. I want out of here. the Water Lilly pack is literally a joke. We are a pack formed years ago by my parents. a pack made up entirely of wolves who don't believe in fighting. wolves who don't fight? how does that even make since? in the last twenty years we have only been attacked by rogues twice. we weren't even attacked though. they came onto our land and when they realized we wouldn't fight back they left. we took the fun out of it for them and they just left.
My father stands up and clears his throat. "Welcome fellow wolves of the Water Lilly pack"
People begin to lightly snap their fingers at his words. "with the new moon tonight we light the peace torch." more snaps.
he grabs the peace torch and sticks one end into the fire.
he raises it into the air "Protecting us through the next month. keeping our lands, our people, and our family safe." he plunges the the torch into its holder on the pedestal. snaps gets louder and some wolves begin to howl.
"I have one more announcement before we feast." my father holds his hand up and announces.
he waves his hand towards me "Come here my lovely Rainbow."
I look around confused but slowly stand up and walk to my dad.
he puts his arm around my shoulders and smiles brightly "As you all know my beautiful daughter will turn eighteen in one week from today." I grown inwardly as he smiles brighter. "Being as she is my only daughter my partner Daisy and I have decided for the sake of our pack, we will grant our daughter one year to find her fated mate. if however she does not find him or her we will select a mate for her within our pack so the two of them together can begin learning and training to take over for us."
I gape at his words. "what?" I stare blankly at Aster who is smiling brightly and snapping like crazy with the other pack members.
My father is so engrossed in the praise from his people he hasn't realized I'm in the verge of tears. I hate this pack. I don't want to be stuck her forever. I am not a peaceful person like my dad. all I've wanted since I got my wolf at fourteen was to fight. my wolf and I were born to fight. my pack would never accept that.
I can't lead this pack.
