CLOVIS GAVE UP TRYING to sleep. He’d managed to doze a few times but mostly he’d been too worried about the men next door and the woman in the next bed to really relax. He cranked his head around to look at the time. The clock on the table next to the bed read two AM. Show time. He climbed out of bed and moved to the window, pulling the drape back to make sure the van was still there. It sat on the far side of the lot, a dark blot in the deep dark of pre-dawn. Clovis had pulled the Dodge Charger around and parked it in front of their room so the thugs next door wouldn’t be suspicious about their new neighbors.
