Third Person's POV
“Princess Kanna, what does this mean?”
“Friendship.”
“Excellent. What does this mean?”
“Hmm… wait, don’t tell me… that means matrimony.”
“You’re doing splendidly. You can make basic conversations with the Duchess now and you’ve done this in just a few weeks. Your dedication is admirable.”
{I agree with that too.}
“Thank you for your praise. I’ve been told I’m a fast learner.”
“Did they also tell you you’re an arsehole?” Geraldine mumbled. Amaya chokes on a laugh. Miriam glared at the both of them.
“You’re only jealous because you aren't as smart.”
“Ah… I’m offended!” Geraldine exclaims, a hand on her chest.
“Excuse me, princess grabby hands, I’m the only one allowed to insult Geraldine. You can keep your opinions to yourself,” Amaya retorts.
{Stop that right now, both of you.}
“Don’t you have a husband to attend to? I thought you Casellan woman had to attend to their husband’s every need every second.”
“I think that’s better than being a Zerramond woman who is killed by the church for just breathing,” Amaya retorts.
Kanna’s face darkens and she uses the nearest thing as a weapon, which is a thin ruler Mirabel held. Her target is Amaya who could never be caught off guard, meets this attack with a scalpel she always carried around.
“I thought we were saying truths. Why get offended by yours?”
“Shut up! You know nothing.”
“You also know nothing about Casellan traditions but you just love to have the upper hand, don’t you? News flash, this is not your home. Just because the Duchess is unreactive to your nonsense doesn’t mean the rest of us will. Act like the princess you are and you would be treated like one.”
“If you know I am a princess, you will treat me accordingly.”
“I humble princes for a living. You are nothing but a brat with too much pride and insecurity. That’s a horrible match, in case you don’t know.”
“Isn’t your ego much larger?”
“It is but unlike you, I am likeable this way. You’re just a pain the Duchess has to endure.”
{That’s enough from you.}
“You don’t have to listen to her every request, my lady. She has privilege but not a lot of wisdom. You’ve had to work for all you’ve gotten but she expects it would all be handed to her. I’ve hated your attitude for the last two weeks, Kanna. If this continues, I will drag you back to Zerramond myself.”
“How dare you?!”
“Okay, okay, cut this out. You two should separate right now. You are putting the Duchess is a very hard position,” Mirabel intervened.
“Tell her to be more courteous to her guests and we won’t have a problem.”
“... Alright doctor. I promise she won’t bother you anymore.”
“You are taking her side over mine?!”
“Princess Kanna, I don’t think you realize who she is yet. It would be wise not to anger her. Not even your parents can save you from her wrath.”
“Whoever she is, she cannot be more important than a King.”
“Have you ever heard of the wandering doctor?”
“You’re meaning to tell me that legend is this woman over here?!”
“The title of the wandering doctor is passed on from generation to generation, Ignoramus. Before one can earn the title, one must fully immerse in the craft. I have reputation, you just have title, little princess.”
“ARRGH!” Kanna screams, stalking out of the room.
{You went over the edge, doctor.}
“I had to. She was being too much.”
Miriam sighed, shaking her head. Mirabel did the same. Geraldine felt oddly proud, content and was in awe of Amaya.
{She was probably sent here to connect with their spies here. Whatever happens here would reach the prince and eventually, her highness. Do you want her to suffer from your actions?}
“She should be able to handle something like this.”
{I won’t argue with you. The King would reach the capital in a few days. How is our move going?}
“All the important documents have been moved. You know, having to move while hiding it from the princess is why I’m so cranky in the first place.”
{I’m sorry and thank you. We have to be as quick as possible moving them. Since the General of the north was nice enough to invite us, we have to move as soon as possible. I’ll handle the princess.}
“You seriously don’t have to bend to her every demand.”
{It’s honestly not that bad. It’s the easiest way out without any conflict. I don’t need another perpetually active woman in my house.}
“Hey!”
{That you understand I was talking about you makes me really happy for you.}
“I’m too conflicted to be mad at you, my lady.”
“You shouldn’t be mad at your liege,” Mirabel comments.
“But sometimes, she’s really mean.”
“I know. Sister has been lacing Princess Kanna’s tea with sleep medicine for the past two weeks so she sleeps earlier.”
“She has?! Amaya! You three were doing this without my knowledge?!”
“If we had told you, you would’ve blabbed. You have very loose lips.”
“You don’t get to say that, Amaya. Your lips actually feels loose!”
The room goes quiet for a minute. Geraldine slaps a hand over her mouth.
“Geraldine, what do you mean by that?”
“AMAYA SAID WE HAD TO FULFIL OUR MATRIMONIAL DUTIES!”
“It was a joke and they don’t have to know about it.”
“So, if I’m hearing this right, you both... How does that even work?”
{Don’t answer that. I don’t want to know.}
“Moving away from that topic, what do we do with the child?”
{Since his father is returning, we hand him over to his family.}
“As much as I hate the nuisance, even I know it’s a terrible idea. If anything, the princess would not be pleased.”
{We can’t take him along.}
“We can. I doubt the King would remember him anyways.”
The procession of the King arrived in the Capital a few days later. As opposed to the lowkey entrance everyone expected from King Mival, he entered Casella with his head held high.
Word went sound that he promised to restore their position in the war. If this promise was to be fulfilled, it would be seen in the future.
