"Drink my blood, or watch your coven burn."Vanya is a rogue blood-witch condemned to the execution block for practicing forbidden ancestral magic. But seconds before the blade falls, King Ignis—the ruthless, dominant dragon-shifter ruler of Obsidian Peak—snatches her from the gallows.Ignis is secretly dying. A lethal core degradation known as Draconis Pyresis is consuming his dragon fire, driving him toward absolute madness and threatening his throne. The only force capable of cooling his inner flame is Vanya’s forbidden blood.Bound together by the ancient, irreversible Ash-Tether, Vanya is dragged into a high-stakes court filled with dangerous political intrigue, forced proximity, and intense physical friction. Trapped beside a king she is supposed to hate, Vanya soon uncovers a deadly court secret: Ignis isn't naturally going mad—he is being systematically poisoned with wyrm-shade toxin by his own trusted advisor, Kaelen. To survive the conspirators, save her imprisoned coven, and purge the poison destroying the king's dragon core, the defiant witch and the lethal Dragon King must form an unholy alliance. But in a court built on treason and dark magic, their explosive heat might destroy them both before the traitor's blade finishes the job.

Chapter 1: The Blood- Pact
The cold iron blade bites into the side of my neck, drawing a single, slow bead of blood. "One word from me, witch, and your head rolls across this stone," the royal executioner sneers, his breath smelling of stale ale and rust. Behind him, high above the obsidian courtyard, thirty members of my coven are crammed inside iron cages, hanging suspended over pits of dormant dragon-fire. Their dry, sob-choked pleas echo against the high stone walls, but I keep my chin locked high. I refuse to give these monsters the satisfaction of my tears. "Do it then," I whisper, my voice raw against the winter wind. "Execute me. But now my blood will sour this dirt forever." Before the guard can press the edge deeper, the heavy bronze gates of the citadel burst inward with a thunderous crash. A wave of blistering heat rolls across the frozen courtyard, melting the frost on the stone instantly. The guards drop to their knees, bowing their heads in terror as a towering figure strides through the rising dust. King Ignis. He wears no royal robes, only dark, dragon-scale armor pulled tight over a massive chest. His black hair is damp with sweat, clinging to his jawline, and his skin glows with an unhealthy, feverish red radiance beneath the surface. His pupils are slitted like a predator’s, completely golden, burning with the manic, destructive rage of Draconis Pyresis—the lethal dragon-fever that strikes highborn shifters when their internal flames grow too volatile to contain. He is burning alive from the inside out, and everyone in this courtyard knows it. Ignis ignores his kneeling soldiers, his heavy boots crunching against the gravel as he marches directly toward the execution block. The executioner stammers, lowering his sword in fear, but Ignis doesn't even glance at him. With a single, backhanded strike, the King swats the massive man across the square, sending him crashing into the courtyard wall like a ragdoll. Then, Ignis’s burning hand shoots out, wrapping around my throat. His grip is suffocating, his palm so intensely hot that my skin sizzles against his touch. He drags me up from my knees, hauling my body flush against his hard, armored frame. The sheer heat radiating from his body burns through my thin cotton robes, sending a violent shockwave directly into my veins. "Look at me, witch," Ignis growls, his deep voice a low rumble that vibrates straight into my bones. I gasp for air, my fingers digging into his thick wrist, trying to pull his hand back just enough to breathe. "Release... me..." "You are a blood-witch of the old line," he rasps, leaning down until his lips brush against the shell of my ear. His breath is pure fire, smelling of ozone and ash. "I can smell the grounding magic in your veins. You have the power to absorb excess heat. To cool a dragon’s core." "I would rather burn than serve a beast like you," I spit out, glaring directly into his golden eyes. Ignis lets out a rough, dark laugh. His grip tightens on my neck, forcing my head back, exposing the line of my throat where the blade cut me moments ago. "You do not have a choice, little bird," he whispers. With a flick of his wrist, he points toward the hanging iron cages. At his command, small licks of orange dragon-fire burst beneath the cages, heating the iron bars. My coven sisters scream in terror as the metal beneath their feet begins to glow red-hot. "No!" I scream, my heart hammering wildly against my ribs. "Stop it!" "Then bind yourself to me," Ignis commands, his eyes blazing with dominance. "Offer your blood. Become my Ash-Tether—the living vessel that cools my fire. Slice your wrist and link your life force to mine right now, or I will drop every single one of your sisters into the flames before your eyes." The sheer cruelty of his ultimatum crushes the air from my lungs. He isn't offering a negotiation; he is taking total ownership. The heat rolling off his body is increasing by the second, his skin so hot now that small wisps of smoke rise from where his leather armor touches his chest. He is seconds away from losing his human mind to the feral dragon within. "Decide, witch," he snarls, his thumb pressing hard against my lower lip, pulling it down, his golden eyes tracking the pulse fluttering wildly in my throat. "Life or ashes?" I look up at the screaming women in the cages, then back into the face of the monster holding me. "I'll do it," I choke out. "I'll take the pact." "Smart girl," he purrs, his voice thick with satisfaction. Without waiting a second, Ignis pulls a curved ceremonial dagger made of black dragon-glass from his belt. He doesn't hesitate. He slices the edge deep across his own palm, dark crimson blood welling up immediately, hissing as it hits his hot skin. Before I can draw a breath, he grabs my right hand, dragging the blade across my wrist. Pain flares sharp and clean, blood spurting from my vein. Ignis slams his bleeding palm directly against my open wrist, locking our hands together. " Sanguis et Ignis ," he chants in the ancient draconian tongue, his deep voice resounding across the courtyard. " Bound in flesh, anchored in blood. " The moment our blood mixes, a violent explosion of magic detonates between us. A shockwave of crimson light blasts outward, shattering the cobblestones beneath our feet. An unbearable heat surges from his palm straight up my arm, flooding into my chest. It feels as if liquid fire is being poured directly into my veins, forcing my head back as a scream tears from my throat. My magic—the ancient blood-anchoring power of my ancestors—awakens instantly, fighting to absorb and neutralize the fever raging inside him. Ignis groans, a sound of pure pleasure as my body forcibly draws the agonizing fire out of his chest. His arms wrap around my waist like steel bands, hauling my hips flush against his. He buries his face into the crook of my neck, inhaling deeply, his teeth grazing against my sensitive skin as he drinks in the sensation of my grounding magic. The sheer physical intimacy of the connection is overwhelming, raw, and terrifying. "Yes," he groans against my skin, his large hands gripping my hips so tightly his fingers leave dark bruises through my clothes. "Absorb it all, witch..." The physical friction between us is intense, every nerve ending in my body screaming under the weight of his possessive touch. My heart hammers in sync with his, bound together by the crimson thread of magic now pulsing between our open wounds. Suddenly, Ignis pulls back, his golden eyes wild, half-crazed with a sudden spike of violent heat. The initial binding hasn't cooled him completely; it has only fueled the feral instinct of the dragon within him. Without breaking the contact between our bound wrists, Ignis grabs me by the back of my waist and hoists me into his arms. "Wait!" I gasp, thrashing against his chest as he turns away from the execution block. "My coven! You promised!" "They live," Ignis growls, tossing a cold glance at his chief commander. "Lock the witches in the lower towers. Keep them fed." He doesn't wait for a response. Striding past his shocked court, he carries me straight toward a heavy, black iron carriage waiting outside the courtyard gates. He kicks the carriage door open, tossing me inside onto the plush velvet seats, before climbing in right after me and slamming the heavy door shut. The carriage instantly lurches forward, horses galloping at breakneck speed into the dark forest. Inside the cramped space, the heat is suffocating. Ignis doesn't give me room to move. He slides onto the bench right beside me, trapping my legs between his thick thighs, his massive body towering over mine in the dark cabin. "What are you doing?" I gasp, my back pressed flat against the carriage wall as his large hand slides up my thigh, bunching up the fabric of my skirt. "The binding is incomplete, Vanya," he whispers, his voice low and raspy as his golden eyes glow in the shadows. "Your wrist was just the taste. The fever is rising again, and if I do not take the rest of your magic tonight... we will both burn to ash before we reach the citadel." He leans in, his hand gripping my inner thigh, pinning me down as his mouth hovers barely an inch from mine.
