Thirteen Paul looked at the clock sitting on the window sill as he got out of the shower. 7:30. He hoped the boys were out of bed. When he left the bathroom, to return to his bedroom to dress for the day, he heard breakfast making noises coming from the kitchen. Someone was up. Five minutes later he was in the kitchen with Matthew making breakfast when Luke walked in to join them. Apart from cursory greetings, very few words were spoken. Shortly after eight the boys were ready to go. The lunches Maria had made for them the previous night were packed in their bags, with their books and all the other stuff they carted to and from school. The boys decided to return to their normal routine and catch the bus home. ‘If it all gets too much, just give me a call and I’ll come and pick you up,’
