Chapter One
Julianne ’s pov
The sound of a slap rang across the hall, causing the people around, who could still hear it over the sound of music blaring over the speakers to turn.
I was in so much shock, my hand covering the hot, numb spot on my cheek trembled slightly. Tears burned my eyes and it took all it could to restrain them and the anger brimming from my wolf as I turned to meet with the hateful eyes of Fiona.
“I'm sorry. It won't happen again.” I quickly bend down to pick the shards from the cup she had thrown down.
Her friends went ahead to giggle at me while the other people simply ignored the scene, barely paying heed anymore. Why would they? I was just a maid after all, and Fiona was the Shaman's daughter.
No one would dare stand up to her, and I would be a fool to think anyone would actually even try for my sake.
“If I have to repeat myself again, I'll have the guards lock you up in the dungeons again, and best believe, you'll be left there longer than a week without food nor water. Is that what you want? You pathetic, weak fool?” She kicked me with a sneer and I fell back against the shards of glass.
I winced as I felt them pierce my palms.
“No Miss.” I quickly resume picking the shards despite the fact that my palms were staining them with my own blood. From down there, I could feel her hateful eyes boring a hole into the back of my head.
“You better take it easy on the Omega, Fiona. Her lover wouldn't appreciate seeing her hurt.” One of her friends said, but she sounded anything but concerned. There was a mockery to her voice.
I hurry to pick up the shards of glass, biting down on my lower lip to hold back the pain. I could feel my body ache. My cheek from where I had just been slapped, my chest where I was kicked and my fingers, which looked like they had been dipped in red paint.
“Like the Alpha of Lion Heart's pack would actually feel anything towards a pathetic hound like her. His naming ceremony happens to be tonight. You'll see how quickly he'll be to discard her. After all, we all know how bored Adrien gets when he's f****d a woman several times.”
‘Just like you.’ I say, but don't dare say it outloud as I quietly get up. I was sure she had asked me to get her a shot of tequila, but I knew Fiona would do anything to see me snap, especially tonight. But I will never give her that power over me.
“A simple glass of orange juice will do. Get it wrong again, and you're doomed, hound.” With that, she turned away with her friends to parade around the estinguished guests that had all gathered around tonight for the Alpha's ceremony.
He was no other person than the son of Late Geraldine Aston, Adrien Aston. He would finally be named Alpha of Lion heart's pack. He was my childhood best friend and also my mate, and tonight, he would announce me as his Luna just as he has always promised.
After cleaning up, I began taking the route downstairs to get Fiona her drink. Suddenly, I was pulled into a familiar room, and soon found myself against the wall.
Adrien cupped my face in his and pulled me close, capturing my lips into his for a long steamy kiss to which I responded to, folding my arms around his neck.
“f**k, you're all I can think about Julianne .” He leaned back, his eyes, a heated fixture in mine just as he kissed me again, this time harder.
“Is that why you haven't come downstairs to greet your guests all night? Everyone's down there waiting for you to make your entrance.” I giggle, leaning back so I stare lovingly at him, knowing fully well with pride that i was staring at my man and my man alone and he loved me.
He threw an imaginary line across my bottom lip. “f**k them. I just wish the ceremony could be over and I'd had you in my arms right now,” He suddenly had me wrapped around him and kissed me again. “in my bed.”
I badly wanted him as much as he wanted me. I wanted his big hands to run over every inch of my skin, I want his fingers to explore me in places I've never been explored before. I wanted his body on mine, I wanted him, every inch of him to fill me up. I didn't just want his lips on mine, I wanted it on every spot on my body.
Yet…
“I promised you didn't I? We've made it so far… Once you're named Alpha and we're officially made public to the Pack, you can have me. Whenever.”
“Wherever?” He cuts in with that handsome devilish smirk in his eyes and I playfully hit him on the shoulder.
He lets go of me, but I could feel his eyes tracing me as I walk to the door.
“What happened to your hand.” His brows furrowed at them before they met mine.
“Oh… “ I unknowingly pull the sleeves to cover them. “It's just an accident. I'll be fine. Now hurry up and get dressed. We all await you, your Alpha.” I give a mock bow and dash away, laughing when he tries to catch me again.
I could feel my heart beating, not out of fear, but love. I love Adrien so much, and the fact that we could finally be together officially in a few minutes gave me the strength, the will to tolerate Fiona's bullshit.
All my life, I had never known my parents, but Adrien’s parents were kind enough to let me live with them in their pack as an omega.
Life was good. I got shelter, food, clothes and a beautiful friendship with Adrien till Fiona came. She was the Pack Shaman’s daughter so a lot of people feared her. So when she targeted me and chose to make my life a living hell, no one, not even Adrien’s parents could help me.
It was obvious she liked Adrien then, but the more Adrien stood up against her when it came to me, her hatred for me burned even more.
They did date though, but like I expected, things didn't work out, and a few months after, Adrien proposed we'd be mates and I wholeheartedly agreed, and since then, Fiona had made it her sole duty to become the visible devil In my life.
I had tolerated her long enough but not any longer after tonight.
With the Orange juice on a tray, I began heading to her VIP table to serve her. However, I was frozen to the spot. Everyone was either chatting, enjoying the music or eating, but admist everything, the unmistakable scent of blueberries flowed through my nostrils and without realizing, my grip loosened on the tray and it landed on the ground, spilling its contents.
Not much people paid attention, but before people realized what I had done, I quickly walked to the edge of the party hall, where would would see me. But even the distance was unable to hide the scent, not reduce the fast beating pace of my heartz the way my body litted up like it had been set on fire. I bit down on my lower lip, to try to stop trembling, to stop the uneasy sensation between legs, the heat on my cheeks, flooding to every inch of my skin, but it was undeniable.
I loved Adrien, but I knew he wasn't my mate. I lost chances of ever finding one because I was an Omega and we rarely found our mates.
My fated mate was here, at this party, at the coronation of my bonded mate, and he was close.
