CHAPTER 001
CHAPTER 001
Selene Andersen
Andreas Larsen declares his rejection of Selene Andersen as both his mate and his Luna.
His words struck me with brutal force to create a void in my heart that had previously held my dreams. My legs threatened to collapse when he delivered those words to me. The Twilight Claw Pack hall seemed to crumble down around me as I stood there. Every eye in the room was on me, their whispers deafening in my ears, louder than the pounding of my heart.
I managed to speak through my labored breathing as I asked him to repeat his words. The loud noise in my head became unbearable, so I needed to hear him repeat his words because I must have misunderstood. There had to be some mistake. This couldn't be happening. Not after everything.
His amber eyes stared at me with the same stone-cold expression that showed no sign of regret. "You heard me, Selene. Our bond was a mistake. Your presence next to me is unworthy.
My legs threatened to give out, but I refused to surrender to the ground. Not here. Not in front of the pack. My thoughts spun without finding any logical explanation. What had happened? How had it all gone so wrong?
Lise. The woman who should never have entered this place. The woman lacked any authority to stand beside Andreas. She moved closer to him while her crimson lips formed a malicious grin, which indicated both suffering and triumph. She took ownership of him while he permitted her to do so.
I held back my tears as my throat constricted while burning sensations filled my eyes. Not now. I would not allow them to witness my weakness because it would grant them pleasure. Not in front of them. Not in front of her.
"How can you do this?" My voice trembled as I asked the question. You have received all my devotion together with my power and my love. Your loyalty, strength, and love for me should matter to you.
Andreas showed his contempt through a twisted expression that mocked his own smile. Your inability to safeguard this pack proves your worthlessness because Lise embodies all Luna qualities with her strength, power, and determination. You..." His words faded into silence as I felt the heavy impact of his statements hit me. "You’re weak, Selene."
Each word from his lips created a separate shard that hurt. His rejection pierced me beyond what I could have imagined. The bond I had trusted and which the Moon Goddess had ordained between us was dissolving right before my eyes. My strong bond with him was breaking because the tight connection that used to bind us had vanished into thin air.
I wanted to scream. I wanted to scream at him to make him understand what he was doing. All words had vanished from my mind. His words had established the path that destiny would lead me toward. His decision was final and irrevocable.
People around me started whispering louder as they expressed disbelief and pity toward me. "Did he just reject her?" I heard someone whisper. "How could he do this to her? She has remained faithful to him and to the pack.
The pack members stared at me while their disapproving looks weighed heavily upon my shoulders. But their pity meant nothing. I had no use for it. I required Andreas to reverse his recent statement because I needed him to admit everything was false. But it was too late. The damage had been done.
Lise's voice cut through the murmurs, sweet and sickly, dripping with false sympathy. She expressed her regret about revealing the truth to Selene through a soft voice. Andreas needs someone who will stand by his side. A person who possesses the ability to lead with power.
I fought to control my emotions as I wished to pull her away from him and destroy her. I wouldn’t let her win. Not like this.
The person you mean would return only after many years to steal possessions that are not rightfully hers. My clenched fists pounded against my sides as I spat out my words.
Lise's smile wavered before she turned her eyes toward Andreas to seek his endorsement. He didn’t move away from her. He didn’t even flinch.
Andreas spoke with finality as he said, "Enough." The distance between us grew heavy with hidden emotions as he stood between us. His height made both his physical bulk and intimidating presence more formidable. "Selene, leave. The position of Luna belongs to someone else in this pack. You must leave before the night ends.
The harsh words produced a shock that surpassed the most intense physical assault I could imagine. My mind demanded that I fight back, but my voice refused to cooperate. I couldn’t breathe. I couldn’t think. The faces of the pack members merged into one confused and judgmental mass as the world around me started to fade. How could this be happening?
Andreas walked away from me without looking back as he kept his hand on Lise's shoulder in a possessive manner. Her laughter echoed through my ears as she pressed against him while mocking my situation. I didn’t want to hear it. I couldn’t. The words played inside my mind as a persistent reminder of all my lost possessions.
I stood at the edge of the Twilight Claw Pack's territory with a small backpack on my shoulder while leaving behind the familiar home I had known since forever. The Luna's living space stood empty with empty shelves, and the walls created an unpleasant cold atmosphere. The place held no more meaning for me. I had left behind my membership in this pack. No longer part of Andreas's world.
I managed to suppress my tears until they broke free, but I hurriedly dried them before anyone could detect my vulnerability. My vision grew hazy as I watched the stars because my sadness had darkened their light. The small life inside my stomach moved as I placed my hand on my belly. I hadn’t told Andreas yet. He didn’t know. The world seemed indifferent to my existence at this moment. The unborn child within me served as my last defense against complete collapse.
I spoke through my breaking voice to promise him safety. I will protect you at any cost.
The pack's lights glimmered behind me as I walked away from the life I used to have, which now faded into the distance. The rogue lands in front of me revealed themselves as dark and threatening expanses. I never wanted to step into this place, yet now I had no other option.
My wolf inside me became agitated and furious as she let out threatening growls in my thoughts. She wasn’t ready to let go. Neither was I. The place no longer held any purpose for us.
A wolf's eerie vocalization isolated itself within the darkness and gave me a powerful shiver from its distant origin. The sound paralyzed me as I struggled to breathe. The eerie sound made my spine tingle so much that I briefly thought about returning to where I came from. The rogue lands lay in front of me, so I had to continue my journey despite the frightening sound I had just heard. Not anymore.
I took another step into the unknown darkness when a low growl broke the silence, followed by two bright eyes that appeared from the shadows in front of me. My heart skipped a beat. I stopped dead in my tracks while my body tensed up because my survival instincts warned me to remain vigilant. This wasn’t over. A presence waited for me in the darkness of the rogue lands.
A voice rose from absolute darkness to startle me.
"Are you ready, Selene?"
My body became rigid from fear as I stopped moving. It wasn’t Andreas’s voice. It was someone else’s. Someone... dangerous.
Who was it? What did they want?
