POV Ophelia
The room grew still while the woman buried me in a hug. My eyes were huge as I realized what was happening. I was getting a hug…from a Luna. While I...was a rogue. Back in the Diablo Pack, I used to clean the packhouse toilets and I don’t remember ever seeing her once in my life and now…now she’s hugging me?! Let's not forget that the Luna of that pack hated me almost as much as my mother. What is with this place?
“Babe, we need to help this girl!” She snapped, finally pulling away from me and standing next to Holly. She turned to her and Holly smiled at her as well. “How did you find her?” Luna asked to no one in particular. Was I being looked for? Why does it sound like she was looking for me?!
Holly chuckled and looked around the room at the shocked men. I was just as shocked as they were. “Well, she found Jeremy’s sandwich at the shop. He left it out when he went to grab a soda. When we found her, she was eating the last bits of his food. I knew I had to help. I’m glad Sal and Jeremy agreed with me.”
“Well, if Grace and Sal think it makes sense to bring her into our pack, I will.” Alpha Reggie said.
“Alpha, shouldn’t we do a background check on her?”
“Do you doubt my mate, beta.” The alpha hissed as his eyes darkened.
The beta flinched then shook his head. “No, Alpha. I would never disrespect our Luna.”
“Then there is no background check to do, now is there?” The alpha pressed. The beta hurriedly shook his head while Luna Grace and Holly smiled at each other. They did pretty much overrule the alpha. I guess they have every right to be smug. I would be if I was in their shoes. “Now, you two will be responsible for taking care of her, correct?”
Holly looked at Sal and they both nodded their heads. “I’ve always wanted a daughter, so I don’t see a problem here. I will treat her as my own.” Holly declared.
I turned to her slowly and opened my mouth to speak, but once again the words held strong in my throat. "We can do this if we just try. If we speak, maybe things will be better." My wolf said, trying her best to encourage me. Unfortunately, it didn't work. I huffed and pulled away from Luna Grace while I went in search for some paper.
“What are you doing, rogue?!” The beta shouted and I jumped before cowering back down.
“Daniel!” Luna Grace shouted. “Does she look like she’s going to hurt anyone right now?!” She snapped.
The man cleared his throat. “No, Luna.”
“Then, instead of yelling at her, maybe you should ask what she needs nicely.” She huffed quietly.
“Yes, Luna.” He sighed before I saw his feet shift. “Are you looking for something?” He asked with less bite to his tone.” I nodded once. “Well? What is it?” He asked again and I could tell he was still questioning his Luna’s and Alpha’s decision to be nice to me. My wolf may think that we are special or strong, but I’m not about to get tortured because I pissed off the wrong wolf. I raised my hands slowly and made a writing motion with my palm and fingers. “Oh, you want something to write with. That makes sense.” His feet disappeared and I kept my head down until a pen and paper were gently offered to me. I shot my head up and he smiled down at me with not an ounce of malice left in his words. “Here. Let’s hear what you want to say. No biases.”
I took a deep breath and scribbled on the paper quickly before showing the words to those in the room. My own family said I wasn't worth their time. I'm not too sure if I think someone who doesn't know me or have any obligation to be around me would treat me as thier own.
Holly slapped her hand over her mouth as her eyes grew and the men growled lowly. Hopefully, in my defense. “How could someone not want their own child?!” Luna Grace growled loudly. “I ought to put in an inquiry to the queen!”
I gasped and shook my head quickly. I don’t want to fight those people or make any of them angry. I scribbled on the paper once more and looked back at Holly: Will I really be like a daughter? I…I would like that. I don't want anyone to be punished. It's not their fault.
“Of course it's their fault, Lia! They had you and they should love you. No questions asked! Do these people even have a heart?” Jeremy asked.
Yeah, for my sister, they have all the heart in the world. I wrote.
“I knew it. You are the gamma's daughter from my old pack. When I first saw you, you looked disheartened as you walked through the Diablo packhouse like a ghost. I never knew it was that bad. If I did, I would have said something so much sooner! I can't believe I let this go on right under my nose. Oh goddess, my brother really should have tried to help you. Those two have always been disgusting to the core. They are a disgrace to the gamma rank!” Luna Grace hissed. Oh, so that was the relation they had to Dustin’s family. Luna Grace was his aunt by birth.
“Grace….” Alpha Reggie warned and she rolled her eyes, plopping her arm back on my shoulder.
“Reggie....” She mimicked, causing a small smile to spread over his lips. “Come on sweetheart. It’s time to give this girl a home.”
The alpha sighed heavily and stood to his feet. “Alright. However, your origin will not leave this room. Like my Luna implied, I don't trust my brother-in-law not to do something stupid if he knows you are here.”
I gulped and quickly scribbled more words on the paper. Don't they come to visit? Won't they find me then? It was an honest question.
“No. They always stay at the packhouse. I'll make sure Sal and Holly are made aware when they are here visiting. We will keep you safe here. I'm just glad you found your way here instead of somewhere else.” Alpha Reggie confirmed.
I bit my lip, hesitant to ask the next question. “Don't worry. You can speak your mind here.” Luna said.
I nodded slowly and scribbled the one question that will make a difference on my decision. Are your sons here? I turned to the room and Beta Daniel chuckled.
“Now, if you are interested in the Alpha's kids-” I waved my hands frantically, cutting him off.
Absolutely not! I wrote, underlining the last word to get my point across. Beta Daniel laughed before shaking his head.
“Sorry kid. I was just messing with you. Those little gremlins are off at alpha training.”
“Gremlins?” Alpha Reggie said with a raised eyebrow.
“What? They really are one of a kind.” He said and I could see the tension leaving the room with every joke. All I'm happy about is the absence of the quadruplets and the promise that my family will never find me again.
After a few more jokes thrown from the alpha to the beta and back again, I completed the induction into the pack and Alpha Reggie made sure to keep my existence a secret by not introducing me to the pack in the mind link. According to him, we don't know who will think it's a good idea to rat me out. So, the less people know about me, the better.
I looked up at Holly and Sal as they smiled down at me. “Welcome home, dear.” Holly said.
I sighed in relief and nodded. I'm happy to be here. Thank you….for everything. I wrote out.
“Always sweet girl. Always.” Sal added before giving me a quick hug. Holly and Sal really are the best thing that has happened to me. Now, I can just enjoy life and have a real family to enjoy it with. The moon goddess really didn't forget about me. Who needs a mate when I have this perfect little family? A little family just for me.
