POV Joshua
It’s been a while…maybe a year and I still can’t get my wolf to talk to me! Why is he doing this?! I growled and threw, whatever came to my fingers fast enough, at the closest wall in my room. After that day…after that girl accepted the rejection, it was like he went back to the goddess herself! For now, I’ve been able to hide it, but I know at some point, someone in this stupid place is going to notice. Just like when that little rat decided to leave the pack.
No one even realized she didn’t show up for work until her voice rang through our mind signaling her betrayal! Dustin’s father was on a rampage after that. He even questioned his own gamma to see what went wrong. Only an i***t would ask a question like that. “Everyone in this horrible pack was cruel to her. Especially you. No one deserves her and you don’t deserve me either. I don’t want to associate with you unless you get her back! She’s mine and I want my mate. Not some knock off you call her sister. Find her or kiss any chance of being a werewolf goodbye.” My wolf growled in my mind.
“I’m taking Felicity as my chosen mate! I don’t want her!” I snapped back.
“Then why haven’t you marked her yet?!” I could hear the condescending tone behind his words and that made my blood boil.
“Because you won’t let me!” I shouted back.
“Exactly!” The laughter just sealed the deal. I can’t believe I’m saying this, but my wolf is as much of a traitor as she is. They deserve each other.
“The hell?!” I shouted, but there was nothing more than an echo in return.
“Fix this.” Then nothing.
“Dude, what’s the deal?” I spun around to see Dustin staring at my room from the doorway. I growled when I realized I didn’t even hear him come in. I don’t think my wolf is joking but I want Felicity, and she wants me. There’s nothing he can say that will stop me. I can just talk with her. She is a gamma female. I can just have her and be a human. She loves me more than anyone. I don’t see her leaving me because of that. “Josh?” Dustin pressed again.
“Nothing.” I snapped back. His eyes darkened for a moment before he cleared his throat and looked up at me.
“Well, I think it’s time you fixed your nothing before your mom has both our hides.” I looked around the room and I couldn’t blame him for coming to that conclusion. My mom will be furious when she sees how many things I’ve broken in the last couple of weeks. But wait….
“Both? That doesn’t even make sense.”
“You for destroying your room and me for not stopping you.”
I rolled my eyes in response and headed for the door. Whatever. My mom doesn’t understand, and I could care less what she thinks. “I’m assuming you came all this way to let me know training was starting.” I asked, doing my best to change the subject.
“Alright. Alright. I’ll let this slide. I’m assuming you will tell me when you are ready, but you are not about to ignore this.”
“I will. Promise.” Yeah, right after I find that girl and rip her to shreds for making me lose my wolf and my chance with Felicity.
“Good luck doing that without me.” My wolf growled. Ha! Good to know he heard that.
“Oh trust me. I intend to.”
---POV Ophelia---
I couldn’t help but fiddle with my fingers while my eyes darted around the room. The woman…Holly was not kidding when she said she would help me. There was a notepad in front of me with many of the responses I had given to this small family over the small amount of time we talked together. The man, Sal, decided to close up shop early today so he could be apart of the conversation.
The one thing I wouldn’t tell them was any detail that would lead back to that hell hole I escaped from. I didn’t think it was wise and with too much information, they could surrender me to my previous alpha. I don’t even want to know what he would do to me. I’ve been evading his scouts for months and I plan to keep it that way. I’m still surprised he’s still looking for me. While I lived there, I was nothing but a burden. A nail in everyone’s shoe. Why bother caring? I assumed any of the ranked members would think I was just dead in a ditch somewhere or something. Maybe that was it.
Maybe they were just confirming I was dead. Not expecting to drag me back to anywhere.
“Now that this is all settled, I’ll prepare the spare room for you. There is no way I will allow you to leave and live on your own again. Not to mention it is getting colder out there.” Holly said with a sympathetic smile.
“Holly, we cannot let her stay here. No matter how much we want to help it is against the law to let a rogue stay on territory without getting consent from the alpha.” Sal said, rubbing his eyes.
“Then get the consent we need Salis!”
I jumped when I heard her shouting and Jeremy immediately rested his hand on my leg, making me jump back and press my body against the wall, glaring at the three wolves like they were out to get me. Jeremy raised his hands and Holly looked at me as a tear left her eye. “S-Sorry. I thought if I comforted you, it would calm you down.” Jeremy said. “I won’t touch you again.” He pleaded.
“And I shouldn’t have yelled. I’m so sorry sweetie. I…I didn’t know.” Holly added. My eyes grew when I realized that my response to their outburst and completely innocent touch was enough for them to know more than anything I could write down in a response.
Dang it!
I took a deep breath and slowly walked toward the couch I was sitting on before in the small warm living room. I darted my eyes back and forth before writing down on a fresh piece of paper: I’m sorry.
“Never apologies sweetheart. Someone hurt you and we promise, if you decide to stay and we talk with the alpha no one will hurt you ever again. You will be safe with us.” Sal said.
I looked at him, expecting to see the other shoe drop, and yet, there is still nothing telling me otherwise. There really are people in this world that have hearts. Huh…strange. Pulling the paper closer to me I started writing again: Are you sure you want to help me. You really don’t know much about me.
Holly stared at the words and giggled lightly. “I know enough. You have dealt with enough on your own. It’s time for you to enjoy your life with others. No matter what, I want to help.” She said.
I gulped as I thought about everything I’ve heard so far. It would be safe to have someone to protect me, and I could always escape again if I feel like this place isn’t safe anymore. Right? “I’ll be here for whatever decision you make. Maybe…staying with such nice people will help us finally get the confidence to speak again.”
I felt my cheeks redden at my wolf’s thoughts, but she wasn’t wrong. I know I need to think about trying harder to get myself out of this ridiculous notion that my words are not worth anyone’s time. I’m just as important as anyone else. Maybe this family will give me the confidence to actually believe that statement. “Okay. I think you are right this time.”
“Oh, I know I’m right. Now go meet this alpha of theirs.” I felt a smile cross my lips and Holly chuckled lightly.
“It seems like you and your wolf have come to a conclusion. I hope it’s a good one?” She asked.
I nodded happily and quickly wrote down that I agreed to stay. Sal sighed in relief along with his son, Jeremy. I blushed lightly and the three of them drove me to the packhouse. I looked at the massive building in shock. It was smack in the middle of the pack with many different people walking in and out. If anything, it looked more like a massive office than an apartment or castle like I’ve seen at home. “Right this way kid.” Sal said with a smile.
We walked in silence until we made it to the fourth floor. To be honest, I was looking for an exit every chance I could. I couldn’t help myself but worry. I couldn’t unsee all the hard work I was made to do in the Diablo Pack’s packhouse. “We aren’t there anymore. Don’t forget that.” I took a deep breath when my wolf gave me the much-needed reminder. Not a moment too soon either.
Sal knocked on the door in front of us and I flinched, realizing we had already made it to our destination. I kept my eyes on the floor as we walked in. The power emanating from the room was much stronger than I thought. Whomever this alpha is, he is not one to mess with. “Sal, care to explain why there is a rogue in my office?” I winced and continued to look down. Holly rubbed my shoulder gently before she cleared her throat.
“We would like to take her in, alpha. She’s alone and scared. I don’t want to make her leave because of stupid laws.” Holly hissed.
“Holly, you know I love you, but my mate isn’t wrong.” A woman’s voice this time. Her mate? She must be the Luna.
“Neither am I, Luna. She’s just a child.” Holly continued.
“Well? How old are you?” Another gruff voice called.
“Sorry Beta, but she cannot speak.” Sal said. “I have checked to make sure she isn’t lying. She hasn’t said a thing since she arrived. Even when we tried to surprise her. As one of your head warriors, I promise I would never bring someone dangerous into your boarders, Alpha Reggie.”
I took a step back and jumped when I felt a person behind me. “It’s just me, Lia.” Jeremy said. That was totally not the problem! Alpha Reggie?! That was the problem. I know that name! He’s Duston’s uncle and the quad’s father. I darted my eyes around the room in sheer panic while Holly turned to me worriedly.
“It’s okay sweetie. We are here for you.” She hummed softly.
I shook my head and finally looked up to see the large burly man from behind the desk. It’s been years since Alpha Reggie and Luna Grace came to the Diablo pack with their sons, but he is still a force to be reckoned with. Once he recognizes me, he will definitely make me go back there! I’m not going back.
Luna Grace gasped before racing up to me. “Oh my goddess! I know this girl!” She screamed. Oh no…. Here comes that other shoe.
