11 I Stand Corrected

POV Lucas What I would give to go back in time right now. I cannot believe that little slave is our mate! “And you used to torment her!” My wolf shouted. “You deserve this, but I don’t!” “I was ten years old! And last time I checked, I didn't do anything to her.” I shot back. “That’s even worse. Apparently you and your brothers were old enough to remember your actions. That’s bad enough! Not to mention that she was scared enough back then to remember.” “We pulled on her hair once or twice. Chased her with a bug when we were no more than six. Shortly after that, we stopped caring. We realized our cousin’s childishness and remained neutral. I remember Mason even defended her once. I’m sure that’s not grounds for absolute rage.” I reasoned and he scoffed. “That is exactly what it sounds like to our mate. Not to mention Duston is our cousin. Whether we like it or not, just being related to him is apparently enough for her to close herself off from us.” “Lucas!” The teacher shouted and I slowly turned my eyes from my blushing mate to the front of the classroom. “Yes?” I asked innocently. Well…as innocent as my six-foot five self could be. “Just…answer the question on the board. Now.” The teacher grumbled and I glanced over the numbers, realizing the formula was incorrect almost immediately. “Dude…don’t.” Mason mumbled and I rolled my eyes. It looks like we both came to the same conclusion. “He’s just messing with you because you’ve been drooling over Ophelia since we sat down.” Mason added. “Do not help him Mason or I’ll make you solve the next one.” The teacher called and the both of us glared at the man before turning back to the board. “I’m not going to do anything too embarrassing for the old man, but no one can answer that question.” I whispered harshly back, and Ophelia furrowed her brows as she listened in on our conversation. Ah, the little princess is actually paying attention to us. “Mr.Silver!” The teacher shouted and I raised a brow. “Between now and the end of class please. Oh, and as I’ve already said, don’t expect help from your classmates. Even if he is your brother.” I leaned back in my chair and shrugged, officially done with his antics. “Can’t.” “Pardon?” The teacher said, and I noticed our little firefly with her lip caught between her teeth and a smile growing with each second. I loved it. I smirked and turned back to the teacher. “The question is incorrect; therefore, the answer cannot be given. So…can’t is the proper response.” The man gritted his teeth, and Mason couldn’t help it and started laughing. “You two, detention!” Our teacher shouted to the pair of us, and I rolled my eyes at my brother’s tomfoolery. “Well, if we already have detention, should we help you correct that problem?” Mason added. “How about I let your girlfriend finish the problem?” The teacher sneered. I felt my eyes darken. “How dare he insult our luna!” My wolf snapped. “Easy brother.” Mason called through the link, feeling the aura of my wolf calling through our bond. On the other hand, Ophelia just stood to her feet and walked up to the whiteboard. “Ophelia, you don’t have to do a problem that is wrong.” Mason called, and she continued to ignore us and pick up a red marker. She made the changes to the formula, with the red marker, then picked up the black one to proceed to answer the question. Both of our mouths dropped in shock. She closed the marker and walked back to her seat between the two of us and silently copied the correct formula down in her notes. The teacher cleared his throat and continued talking about why the problem was wrong and how Ophelia’s changes, clearly and concisely, completed the problem. I wanted to talk to her so badly. I wanted to tell her how great she was, but the wall between us and her was higher than I thought possible. “Dude, I can see the steam coming from your ears. We already told everyone she’s our girl. They won’t do anything stupid. Even the humans.” Mason noted, finally getting himself back to normal. “I don’t care about them. I care about her. I care that she’s completely ignoring us!” “She just needs time. That kid over there though…. If he gives me one more dirty look, I think he will be blind by the end of class.” He growled and I turned to see that kid from earlier staring back at us. No…not back at us…. I glanced down at Ophelia, and her nose wrinkled while she continued to write more notes. Blowing her hair away from her face she shook her head and continued to focus on the class. “Not us. Her.” I forced through the link. “Even worse.” Mason added. Finally, the bell rang, and we attempted to help our mate, and she couldn’t even bother to give us the time of day. She went straight for the door and the kid raced after her. We glanced at each other without words and ran right behind them. I don’t know what his connection is to her, but I don’t care. She’s ours! ---POV Ophelia--- “You can’t just keep dodging my questions. You know mom and dad are going to flip too once this reaches them.” Jeremy pushed as I put my things in the locker. I didn’t want to think about the experience I had in that room and the conflicting feelings my wolf was not helping me subside. Then, Jer had to add in the fact that his parents will find out too! Ugh. It’s not even noon and I’m exhausted. “They want us. They said they wanted us.” My wolf whimpered. “Stop pushing them away. I want my mates.” “No. They don’t want us. No one ever wants us! The only people who showed us even a little bit of praise were Sal and Holly. Sometimes even Jeremy but those of leadership can stuff it! I may be a bit of a pushover but I’m nobody’s ticket.” I grumbled. “I’m a person! They are all evil and they only want two things. Their titles and power.” I spun on my heels, finally free of my books and signed, “Jeremy, I just found out I supposedly have four mates and they seem to want me just to get their position as alpha. I’m a little angry right now so please leave me alone.” One of the days I wish I could shout, and this was one of them, all I can do is sign angrily and link through his mind. It doesn’t have the same touch. “I don’t want to go back to school again. I never did. This is your fault!” I added, wishing I wasn’t taking my anger out on my only friend, but I didn’t know what else to do. I was freaking out! In a second, Jeremy buried me in a hug, and I froze at the contact. “I’m sorry Lia. I’m really sorry. I know I was being a pain when I made you go to school, but honestly, I just wanted you to be a normal kid again and enjoy what life has to offer. Is that so wrong?” I hugged and snuggled into his chest, relishing in the warmth. He was more like a sibling to me than my actual sister and that was of no surprise to me. What did I expect from my twin who was blessed with a beautiful voice, long golden hair, striking blue eyes, perfect figure and a strong wolf while I’m stuck without a word on my lips and a rejection already under my belt? I pulled away and stood on my tip toes to ruffle his hair. He clicked his teeth and laughed at the action while I just smiled up at him. “Just…don’t fight me on this. Once they reject me, I’m not coming back. I can’t….” My hands froze and started to shake. The last thing I wanted was to be alone again, but I cannot watch them enjoy their life while I writhe in agony. He grabbed hold of my hands and shook his head. “I don’t think they will, but I won’t push it. I’ll be here for you no matter what.” He confirmed. Grabbing my books out of my locker, he whistled in shock and closed the metal door. “Dang. I knew you were smart, but all AP? I’m barely struggling with Calc.” I beamed up at him and laughed silently. “I need to get into a good college if I want a life of my own. In your pack or elsewhere. If there is one thing I’m good at, it’s studying. How did you think I was able to skip junior year?” He scoffed and threw his arm over my shoulder. “Stop being so morbid, Lia. I’ll walk you to your next class.” “Awh. No clingy girlfriend this time.” I added, rolling my eyes. He shook his head and I adjusted the hood on my sweatshirt. “Nah, she’ll back off. I told her you were my adopted sister. She can’t come in between family if she doesn’t want to find herself single.” He growled and I nodded. “And that’s why I like you.” I hummed. “We can take it from here.” I looked up to see Lucas and Mason. They seemed to be barely holding themselves back but from what, I have no idea. I don’t want anything to do with them. “Alphas.” Jeremy said, revealing his neck to them. Lucas went to reach for my books, and I held up my hand. Stopping him in his tracks. “I don’t remember asking either of you for help. My brother is going to help me and that’s all I need right now. Leave.” I growled through the link. I’m not going to use sign. I’m sure they wouldn’t know what I was saying even if I spelled it out slowly. I just want them to go away and talking to them through our link is much faster. “Really? That’s how you want to play this? Aren’t you cute.” Mason hummed. How I’m already able to tell them apart is terrifying, but I guess it comes with the territory. “That’s exactly how I’m going to play this. If it’s a game you want, remember, I’m already an experienced player.” I growled back before grabbing Jeremy’s arm and pushing my way around the pair of them. The two of us walked in silence but I think he realized that’s exactly what I needed right now. Peace and quiet. Finally. As the day continued on, I didn’t see any of the alpha’s kids again and I sighed in relief. If I saw them again, it would be too soon.
