Chapter 2

I stood there, unable to say anything, even if I could. My words wouldn't matter. How could they ask me to marry their cruel son? I slowly walked upstairs, feeling frustrated and trapped. I couldn't believe what I had just heard. Marry Xayden? Never! As I reached the top of the stairs, I could still hear Xayden's voice, arguing with his parents. "This is ridiculous! I won't do it!" "Xayden, you have no choice," Mr. Nelson replied firmly. "You'll do as we say." I shook my head, feeling a sense of dread wash over me. I couldn't marry Xayden, no matter what his parents said. I would find a way out of this, somehow. I reached my room and closed the door behind me, leaning against it to catch my breath. I couldn't believe what was happening. Why were they doing this to me? As I stood there, I could still hear Xayden's voice, raised in anger. "I won't do it! I won't marry her!" But his parents were unmoved. "Xayden, you'll do as we say," Mrs. Nelson repeated. "You'll marry Yvonne, and that's final." I felt a shiver run down my spine. I was trapped, and I didn't know how to escape. A week had passed, and the tension in the house was palpable. Everyone was living quietly, ignoring each other. Xayden had been coming home late from work, trying to avoid his parents. But tonight was different. It was already 12 midnight, and he still wasn't back. I had to call my cab guy to come pick me up from the house and take me to the office. After a 30-minute drive, I arrived at the office. I took the elevator to the top floor, where Xayden's office was located. I pushed open the door to find Xayden lying on the floor, surrounded by smoke. I pulled him out of the office and shut the door, my heart racing. "Xayden!" I screamed, shaking him. He wasn't responding. I quickly checked his pulse, but it was weak. I started CPR, my hands shaking as I pumped his chest. "Come on, Xayden, wake up!" I begged. After what felt like an eternity, I felt a slight movement. Xayden coughed, and I turned him onto his side. He took a few shallow breaths, and I breathed a sigh of relief. I grabbed my phone and dialed 911, trying to keep Xayden awake as I waited for the ambulance to arrive. "Stay with me, Xayden. Help is on the way." I left to get a towel and water to use on him, but when I came back, I saw Caroline with him. Xayden opened his eyes, looked at Caroline, and blacked out again. I ran to him, but Caroline was like, "Leave him alone, bitch." I replied, "I've been taking care of him before you came. Who do you even think you are?" Just then, the paramedics arrived. I went to meet them to direct them to where Xayden was. I helped them put Xayden onto the stretcher. As we rushed him to the hospital, I couldn't help but wonder what had happened. But my relief was short-lived, as Caroline came at me again, trying to take control of the situation. "Leave him alone," she spat at me. I stood my ground. "I'm not going anywhere. I'm the one who saved his life." The paramedics intervened, asking us to step aside as they worked to stabilize Xayden. I watched anxiously, my mind racing with questions. What was Caroline doing here? And what had happened to Xayden? After the hospital incident, Xayden refused to let me visit him in his ward. I went home, wondering why he despised me so much, even after I saved his life. When he returned home, he continued ignoring me. I locked myself up in my room, no longer coming down for breakfast or dinner. One day, I heard voices and came out to witness Xayden confronting his parents. "Why did you freeze my accounts?" he demanded. "If you don't marry Yvonne, don't bother going to work tomorrow," Mr. Nelson replied. Xayden's face twisted in anger."I want to marry the woman who saved my life, not Yvonne. You're blackmailing me?" Mrs. Nelson stood firm. "We're protecting our family's interests. Marry Yvonne, or lose everything." Xayden's face twisted in frustration. "But why? I don't love Yvonne." Mrs. Nelson stood firm. "It's not about love, Xayden. It's about family obligations. Marry Yvonne, or you're out of the family business." Xayden sat down, defeated. "Fine, I'll marry her." Later, I went to Xayden's room, hoping to talk to him. "Xayden, I need to tell you something. I was the one who saved your life that day." Xayden looked up, his expression dismissive. "Shh, Yvonne. Don't be desperate. Just leave my room." I felt a sting from his words, but I tried to convince him. "Xayden, please listen—" But he cut me off. "Just leave, Yvonne. I don't want to talk to you." I left his room, feeling defeated. My heart skipped a beat as I hurried back to my room, my mind racing with thoughts of the impending marriage. Will he ever love me, or will it always be like this? Three days later, Xayden and I went to court and signed our marriage certificate. The judge's words echoed in my mind: "By the power vested in me, I now pronounce you husband and wife." The ride home was silent, Xayden not saying a word to me. The next day, at breakfast, Mrs. Nelson asked, "Xayden, why are you two still here? Take your beautiful wife to your own house. You can't stay here, by the end of today, you should should be in your house." Xayden exclaimed, "Oh no!" Later that day, Xayden walked into the room where I was sitting. "Yvonne, pack your bags. We're leaving." "Where are we going?" I asked, surprised. "Our new home," he replied curtly. In the evening, our luggages were taken to the car, and we set off. As we drove, Xayden turned to me and said, "Remember, respect yourself in my house, or I'll throw you out." "But I'm your wife," I protested. Xayden shushed me. "Don't forget, this is a forced marriage. Don't get too comfortable." I kept quiet, feeling a sting from his words. After a few minutes' drive, we arrived at our destination. I gasped in awe as I saw the mansion. It was huge, with sprawling gardens and a fountain at the entrance. The interior was just as impressive, with marble floors, crystal chandeliers, and lavish furnishings. As we walked in, the housekeeper greeted us. "Welcome, Mr. and Mrs. Xayden." Xayden turned to me and said, "Pick a room for yourself." I hesitated. "But shouldn't we...I mean, we're married..." Xayden interrupted me. "How can I stay in the same room with you? This is a forced marriage, remember?" I felt a pang of hurt but tried to compose myself. "Fine, I'll pick a room."
