I chose a beautiful room with an en-suite bathroom and told the staff to take my belongings inside. As I unpacked, I couldn't help but feel like a guest in my own home.
Days passed, and our routine was monotonous. We'd have breakfast together, then Xayden would leave for the office. I spent most of my time in my room, reading books and sleeping. I started sleeping waiting for day to run out as usual. Not until I felt like I was suffocating and I woke up to find Xayden kissing me. I pushed him off, shocked. "What are you doing? Why are you kissing me?"
Xayden ignored me, his eyes fixed on mine. "Just stay quiet, Yvonne."
I tried to speak again, but he silenced me with a touch. "Don't talk, just relax."
He continued undressing me, his hands roaming over my body. I looked away, avoiding eye contact. I swallowed my ego and decided to let him do what he wanted after all we are married. Even if I was a virgin it didn’t matter because of who I was married to.After he was done, he got dressed, his movements swift and detached.
He pulled out a tablet from his pocket and threw it at me. "Drink that."
I looked at it, confused. "What is it?"
Xayden didn't answer. He opened the tablet and put it in my mouth, then handed me a glass of water. "Swallow, don't be stubborn."
I felt a lump form in my throat as I swallowed the pill. Xayden turned to leave, buttoning his shirt. "I'll see you downstairs."
I was broken, speechless. Tears streamed down my face as I realized the true nature of our marriage. I was just a prisoner, a means to an end.
XAYDEN’S POV
I've been playing the part of the dutiful husband, but it's all a facade. I'm still trying to wrap my head around this forced marriage. Yvonne thinks I'm cruel, and maybe I am. But I don't care. I'm only doing what I have to do to protect my family's interests.
I see the way Yvonne looks at me, with a mix of fear and resentment. Good. She should be afraid of me. I'm not going to pretend to be something I'm not. I'm not going to love her or even like her. She's just a means to an end.
I know she thinks I'm ignoring her, but I'm just biding my time. I have to make sure she knows her place in this marriage. I'll use her when I need to, and discard her when I'm done.
The other day, I kissed her, and she pushed me away. Pathetic. She thinks she has a choice? I'll show her what choice really means. I'll take what I want, when I want it.
And that pill I gave her? Just a precaution. I don't want any unwanted consequences from our arrangement. She'll do what I say, and that's final.
I'm not going to change who I am for anyone, especially not Yvonne. She'll learn to deal with it.
I was taken aback though when I realized Yvonne was a virgin. I never saw her as anything special, just a nuisance I had to tolerate. I didn't care about her life or her feelings, so her innocence didn't faze me. "Oh please, so what if she's a virgin?" I thought. It's not like it's going to change anything.
My mind kept drifting back to Caroline, the woman who saved my life. I don't really like her, but I owe her. I feel obligated to be nice to her, even though she's too much sometimes. How can a woman force herself on someone like that? It's annoying.
But Yvonne...she's just a pawn in my game. I'll use Caroline to spite her, to make sure she doesn't get too comfortable. But honestly, I couldn't care less.
YVONNE ’S POV
I took my bath and got dressed, then headed downstairs as Xayden had asked. I saw him in the living room, engrossed in his laptop. I sat opposite him, but he pretended not to see me.
"Xayden, you asked me to come downstairs," I said, trying to initiate a conversation.
He cleared his throat and looked up at me, his expression unreadable. "Yes, I did."
"Why?" I asked, curious.
"There's a business gala coming up tonight," he said, his tone detached. "You'll be accompanying me."
"Oh, okay," I replied, unsure what to expect.
"A dress and some jewelry will be brought to your room," he continued. "Make sure to try them on and look good. And comport yourself at the gala."
"Okay," I said, feeling like a child being told what to do.
Xayden went back to his laptop, dismissing me. I sat there for a moment, feeling awkward, then got up and left the room.
Four hours later, I heard a knock on my door. A lady entered with a stunning gown and jewelry set. The gown was a fitted, strapless red dress that hugged my curves perfectly, and the jewelry set consisted of a diamond necklace and earrings that sparkled in the light.
I got dressed and admired myself in the mirror. I looked gorgeous.
I went downstairs to meet Xayden, who quickly looked away and headed outside. I followed him, and we entered the back seat of the car. I busied myself with my phone to avoid the tense atmosphere.
An hour later, we arrived at the venue. I followed Xayden inside, where he was greeted by many people. He didn't introduce me to anyone unless they asked him to.
I grew tired of standing alone and sat down, sipping my wine and admiring the decorations and people's outfits. A man approached me and started a conversation. After a while, I asked him where the restroom was, and he offered to walk me there.
I entered and did my business and came out to still find him standing by the door, he held my hand and told me I was beautiful. I looked around and met Xayden's gaze. I swiftly pulled my hand away.
“ I don’t even know your name,” I said moving from him.
"My name is Felix," he said with a smile.
"I don't know you, Felix, so please don't touch me," I replied firmly.
Felix looked taken aback but nodded and walked away. I returned to my seat, feeling uncomfortable under Xayden's gaze.
As I sat back down, I couldn't help but think to myself, "Why do I even care about Xayden's feelings? This isn't a real marriage anyway." I felt a surge of anger and frustration. "He's so annoying, does he even care about me?"
I thought about how he didn't even flinch when Felix was touching me. No atom of jealousy on his face. It was as if he didn't even consider me his.
I took another sip of my wine, feeling the alcohol coursing through my veins. "I shouldn't even bother," I thought. "He's made it clear he doesn't want me."
But still, his indifference stung. I took another drink, trying to drown my emotions. "I'll just pretend I don't care," I told myself. "I'll show him I can have fun without him."
I scanned the room, looking for someone to talk to, someone to distract me from Xayden's annoying presence. That's when I saw Felix again, smiling at me from across the room. I smiled back, feeling a sense of rebellion. Maybe I would have some fun tonight after all.
