I walked away that day, seeing the hurt and devastation in Johnny’s eyes was too much for me and knowing that I was adding to it made it worse. After all, I caused it by pushing Val too far. When I closed the door I heard Johnny slump down and then cry so hard I was shocked. Never have I ever seen or heard of an alpha breaking down the way he did that day.
There is a slim chance of recovery. Those words kept going round in my head. I just stood there outside of the hospital for what felt like forever until dusk fell and I figured I should start heading back to my pack.
