Val POV
“Ow” I say, my head banging off of a chiseled chest that feels more like a wall than a human chest.
Before I can hit the ground though, I feel arms wrap themselves around me. They both stop me from falling but also holds me so close to the person that I can smell their aftershave.
“Baby, are you ok?” Johnny asks me, pulling me out of the grip of the other person and into his embrace. I feel myself melting into Johnny. Before I can respond, Johnny looks me over, making me heat up and blush, now is not the time I remind myself.
“I’m fine babe, but I must apologize to you….” My voice gets stuck in my throat. Even in the intervening few years, the man standing before me has practically not changed at all.
“Hi Val.” Xander says to me, looking a bit annoyed that I am in the arms of another.
“Xander.” I whisper.
“You two know each other?” Johnny asks confused, looking between me and Xander.
“You remember me telling you that I once had a mate who I met when fleeing from Alpha Mark the first time?” I say.
“Yes.” Johnny nods his head.
“It was Alpha Xander.”
“Oh, I see.” Johnny says. When Johnny and I became serious, I decided to tell him of my past. That way he would be able to decide beforehand on whether or not he still wanted me, I explained everything to him and although he was fuming with Alpha Mark and my father he pried for Alpha Xanders name but I decided to keep that part of my past to myself.
It was not out of vindictiveness or because I wanted to keep a secret, but more because I wanted to hold on to something good from my past, and Xander was one of the good things I had. I now wish I had told Johnny, but I also know that he is not one to hold a grudge and he would still be kind to Xander.
“Thank you Alpha Xander, for saving Val that day. If it had not been for you, then I would never have found my mate.” Johnny says, holding his free hand out for Xander to shake.
“I did it for other reasons that day Alpha Johnny. Val was, and still is, my mate.” Xander says with so much confidence. Xander then turns his gaze to me.
“Come here.” Xander says to me sternly, a frown still etched on his face.
I look up at Xander, pinning him in place with an angry glare while Johnny holds me back.
“I will not. I am not anyone’s property and will not be treated as such!” I say, slight annoyance entering my voice.
“I did not mean to offend you.” Xander holds his hands up in surrender.
“I don’t care, I will not be told what to do anymore by anyone!” I say angrily. I know I may be snapping and being unreasonable, but after last night and all of the memories that resurfaced from when I lived here and then to be spoken to like that, just puts me on edge.
“I am sorry Alpha Xander, something happened last night and Val and I are on edge a bit.” Johnny says, pulling me closer to him to calm me down a bit while also trying to defuse the situation.
“What happened?” Xander asks.
“Nothing that we cannot handle Alpha Xander. We have it under control, more or less.” Johnny says, whispering the last part.
“But maybe I can help.” Xander says soothingly, like he is speaking to a child rather than two adults.
Before anything else can be said, a voice walking through the corridor calls out to me, grabbing all of our attention.
“Ahh there you are Val.” The judge says, coming to a stop in front of us.
“Your honor. Is everything ok?” I ask.
“Yes, about what we spoke about in my office…” Before the judge can continue, Xander lets out an almighty roar.
“WHAT? WHAT WAS YOU DOING IN HIS OFFICE?” Xander shouts, causing everyone in the hallway to stop what they are doing and either kneel or look confused and very worried. What the hell does he think I was doing in the judges’ office?
“Not that it is any of your business, but I was discussing a case with the judge.” I retort, how dare he?
Before Xander can reply, Johnny stands in between us and motions for the judge to continue. He knows that I would always be faithful but also that a case is important to me until it is completed. I give every case I work my heart and soul.
“As I was saying, I have thought about your arguments and I must agree with you. Looking at the case notes you gave me, I also am confused as to how the case has gone on this long. The prosecutor kept claiming that he had physical evidence, but I can now see that the case is completely false. I do apologize for bringing you all of the way out here for nothing.” The judge says, clearly embarrassed by the end of his speech.
“There is nothing to apologize for, plus if I can help save an innocent man then it was not for nothing.” I reply, smiling that justice is finally being done.
“Is the man being released?” Johnny asks.
“He is, I made my rule. I should have made it in the courtroom but I decided to throw the case out completely. He is with the police now, he should be released within the hour. It was a pleasure working with you, no offence but I hope to not cross you in court again.” The judge says with a chuckle.
I hold my hand out for the judge to shake, which he does. “Pleasure doing business with you, your honor. And I don’t know, I do rather enjoy it here.” I say, the thought of leaving and remaining still an option for Johnny and I. now that the case is over I am not sure if we will be staying long or not.
“I might be able to throw a few cases your way within the next few weeks if you’d like? Then you could decide?” The judge suggests.
“If that’s ok? That would be amazing.” I say enthusiastically.
“I’ll have a few words with some people.” The judge says before walking away.
Before I can do anything, I am grabbed into an embrace, sparks flying up my arms again but I can see that it’s not Johnny as he quickly pulls me back to him.
“What the hell?” I ask, turning around to face Xander.
“I just wanted to touch you.” Xander says, sighing and running his hands through his hair.
“So you just assault me? Why?” I ask confused. Instead of answering, Xander steps forward and touches me again on the arm.
“Don’t you feel it?” Xander asks.
When Xander touches me, sparks fill my body. I step back in shock, how can I feel sparks with Xander still if I am mated to Johnny?
“So what does this mean then? If I feel sparks from both of you?” I ask to no one in particular.
“It seems that we are both her mates.” Xander says, drawing my attention back to him.
“Is that even possible?” Johnny asks.
“It is certainly one for the books.”
“Is it a first?” I ask nervously.
“Yes and no.” Johnny says, pulling me closer to him. I look at him and Xander confused.
“It has been known for wolves to have humans for mate. It has been known for one female wolf to have multiple male mates and vice versa. But I do not recall a situation where a human mate has had multiple wolf mates.” Xander explains.
“So, what now?” I ask.
“Now I think we should go back to my pack and consult my elders. They might be able to shed some light on the situation.” Xander says.
I can see that Johnny wants to disagree but then he nods his head.
“Ok, but I need to inform my warriors.” Johnny says.
“Why?” Xander asks. “And why are they even near the courthouse?”
“I will explain when we get to your pack house.” Johnny says, taking my hand and walking behind Xander to the car that has just turned up on the side of the street.
Xander gets in first, extending a hand for me to take to help me in and Johnny gets in behind me. I end up sitting between my two mates, sparks filling me up from both sides. This is going to be one hell of a torturous ride I think to myself as the car pull away and heads to Xanders pack.
