Chapter 3- WHAT!?

(Xanders’ POV)

WHAT THE HELL?? HOW?? WHY?? I am screaming while thrashing the room. Danny, my wolf, is shouting at me to calm down, to go back to mate who may wake at any moment. I smile at that, mate, I have waited so long and I finally found her. I remember the first time I saw her, she looked so fragile and lost, it took everything in me not to break our treaty and get to her. Val thinks I first saw her the other day when she entered into by territory but that is not true. I first saw her three weeks ago when she came close to our boundary, not even realizing it.

I had got a mind link from a warrior on patrol saying that a possible breach may be about to occur. I rushed to the place in record time, wanting to know who and why they are breaching our territory. When I arrived the warrior pointed to a girl who was sitting on her own crying into her lap, sitting with her back against a tree and her knees pulled up so as to hide herself from the world. I could see why the warrior had thought a breach was about to occur, only two more steps and she was in our territory. I watched entranced, I had not seen her face but there was something pulling me to her.

All of a sudden I see a warrior from Alpha Marks’ pack rush up to her and hug her, he then started to try to get her to stand but could tell she was unable. He must have mind linked someone as a few minutes later another warrior appeared, this one was not gentle as I watched as he grabbed her and dragged her by her hair. I growled but quickly stopped when our eyes met, Val may not remember but once I looked into her eyes I knew that she was my mate and I needed her. I rushed back home and spoke to my parents about her and where she was, they advised me to do nothing, Alpha Mark had been looking for a way to get our territory for a while and if he discovered she was my mate then he would hurt her to get me to give him my pack and land. The warriors on patrol were told to mind link me the minute they saw her near the boundary again. No one saw her for weeks until four days ago when she was limping towards our boundary in the arms of the beta.

At first I was excited, thinking it was fate as that day was the first time in two weeks I had done patrol, and my mate comes to be. Me, my beta and my best warrior rushed towards out boundary line, all of us just wanting to see her again. When I arrived I was fuming at seeing her in the arms of another, my beta then elbowed me in the side, “Alpha, I think that is her brother so calm down.”

“How do you know? It could be her boyfriend, fiancé or worse husband.” I replied, panicking as I realized that I knew nothing of her other than she is human.

‘Will she want me?’ Of course, i***t. She is our mate. But something is wrong with her my wolf replies with a worried voice. ‘What do you mean?’ Look at her i***t, that beta is holding her up. I think something is very wrong here. I cut the link with Danny, looking at my beta and warrior who both hold horrified looks on their faces. I turn back to see my mate stumble forward, I rush to her, grabbing her just as she passed out. Shocks flew up my arms where I held her, I look up to see the beta looking at me swearing, “Keep you filthy hand off of my sister! I will come over there if you don’t let her go! I swear to god or the moon goddess or whatever, you will never have her or harm her you bastard!”

“SHUT UP!” I use my Alpha voice on him, he may be from a different pack but I still outrank him and have some power over him. “How dare you talk to me like that?! I would never harm my mate!”

“Wait…. Did you just say mate? But that is impossible, she is my Alphas’ mate. He took her because she was his mate.”

“Well he didn’t look after her very well, look at the state of her. A mate would never allow another to do this to their mate.”

“Really? I was told a wolf just owned their mate, besides the Alpha did a fair bit of that damage.”

“You don’t know much about mates, that’s pathetic. Mates are cherished. i***t. We would do anything for our mates. Where were you born, under a rock beta?”

“No. I was turned four and a half months ago, did not get told anything about mates and stuff. Only about battles and that she is to remain on pack territory. I couldn’t deny my alpha, but my sister is so important to me that while he momentarily lost control I was able to disobey him and get her to safety at her request.”

“Wait, you mean you was not born a wolf?” The beta in front of me shakes his head. “And she is your sister?” Again the beta only nods his head. I stand there shocked, taking in all of the information I had gathered, my mate had been abused by the pack, and Alpha Mark told her own brother he could not help her while he physically abused her along with his pack. How could anyone separate family and then abuse one, especially an alpha? It is our duty to protect our pack and those around us, to maintain our secrets but also help others when needed. I am pulled from my thoughts by the Beta.

“Alpha, please tell my sister I love her. You need to leave, I can feel and hear Alpha Mark coming. Please take my sister somewhere safe and protect her. I couldn’t do that but I am begging you, please help her.” The beta falls to his knees in front of me as he breaks down, looking at his sister with so much love and hurt, it brought tears to my eyes. I nod my head and turn around to my men, I notice that they also have tears in their eyes. “Come on guys, we have to get little one here to the pack doctor and find out what is wrong with her.”

We use our wolf speed to make it to the pack hospital within minutes. I refused to leave her side for days, even when she had a fit and they kicked me out. The only time I left her was for Alpha duties, but even they were often picked up by my father.

Earth to i***t! I am brought out of my thoughts by Danny. I look around the room and sigh, I had better order new furniture and get the office tidied up before little one sees this, I don’t want her to see anything like this yet. Go to mate. Want mate.

I quickly mind link Liam my beta, ‘Please could you get me new office furniture and the office tidied before this evening?’

‘What did you do?’

‘You don’t want to know’ next thing I know Liam is standing in the door way looking shocked at the office, it literally looks like a hurricane has been in this room. I stand there, not sure what to say which is rare.

“Xander is everything ok? I’ve never seen you do anything like this.”

“Yeah, I’m fine. Just found out some of the things they did in that pack and I got angry. Can’t even blame Danny, he was the calm one for once haha.” We both chuckle, Danny is not known for being patient as he is quick to anger and very domineering. But since finding our mate he has calmed down a lot, although Val is on his mind a lot lately which was distracting when doing meetings as Danny would suddenly play cheeky thoughts in my mind making me lose my concentration. Most of those in the meetings knew what was happening and would only chuckle before continuing.

“Honestly Liam, I knew that Alpha Marks’ pack was ruthless but I never thought that they would kidnap and abuse a young girl all because she was payment for the protection.”

“WHAT!?” Liam stands there trying to control his wolf, I smile thinking that my pack is already becoming very protective of the Luna even if they have yet to meet her formally. Many came to see her while she was unconscious and offered their wishes that she gets better soon. No one in my pack was bothered that she was human, quite the opposite actually as I noticed that my pack became even more protective over her when they found out. I would notice fresh flowers in her room every day, she was cleaned and her hair styled every morning and night, and people were constantly near her room in a protective manner. It was a lovely sight to see my mate already becoming an integral part of the pack, even though she had yet to accept me or even open her eyes.

“What Marks’ pack did to her was diabolical Liam. When she first woke up I found out that they would constantly knock her out, restrain her, beat her and leave her in different places all of the time with nothing to protect her. I think Val will tell me more as she starts to recover and open up to me but I am worried as to what I will find out. I am worried that she wont heal Liam, what am I supposed to do?”

Liam walks over to me and places his hands on my shoulders, “You need to be there for her. That’s it. Just listen to her when she wants to talk, make her laugh and smile, cuddle her when she cries and protect her when she becomes scared or overwhelmed. Everyone in this pack are willing to learn how to be around her, to learn if there are any triggers and then to avoid them. We are all behind you Xander. You need to be her crutch and her protector. Just like you are to this pack. Difference being that your mate is more important.”

I sigh and let his words sink in. Its funny how Liam is only a year older than me yet he always seems to be older by decades. “Thanks Liam, I think I needed this mini chat of ours. I am off to check on Val. Please get this mess of mine cleaned up.”

“Yes Alpha”.

I leave the office and head to my room where Val is resting. I am half way up the stairs when I hear the most blood curdling scream I have ever heard. I know instantly that it is coming from my mate. Mate is in danger. Go to her. GO TO HER NOW! Danny screams in my head. I take the stairs three at a time as I rush to my room. I throw the door open and my knees cave at the sight in front of me, tears flowing down my face freely.

She’s gone. My mate is gone.
