Chapter one
REINA
“No, I can't get married to him.”
I yelled at my papa.
Shock flashed across his face, this was the first time I raised my voice at him. I was always the sweet and quiet ‘rain’ of the Abelinni family.
“Reina, we need this deal.”
“Just for a deal you sell your daughter?”
The pain was evident in my voice. Tears were already gathering in my eyes.
“ It's business dear.”
Papa said in the same voice he used to coax me into doing something. I felt hurt because that was the voice he used to coax me into taking my drug when I was sick and refused to take it.
Now it was the same voice he was using to pet me to accept being sold off.
“Mama are you really seeing this.”
I turned to the side to look at my mama.
She only looked at me with pity in her eyes.
Seeing that they've made up their mind in selling me off I slammed my hands on the table and stomped off.
Slamming the door to my room really hard I slumped to the floor and wept.
Thinking about how my dad always claimed he loved me and now he's willing to sell me to a guy all because of a contract.
Not just any guy, why did it have to be Javier Michello—the man with the reputation of being the coldest don known.
He was secretly called the devil among the establishment.
There was rumor of him unaliving his uncle at just age thirteen.
Curling on the floor with my knees to my chest, I brought out my phone and dialed Amaya's number. As soon as the call connected, I cried out more.
“Maya.”
“Rain, what's wrong?”
Panic was evident in her voice.
“Papa married me off to Javier.”
“Javier…as in Michello Javier?”
I nodded my head like she could see me.
“That's like signing a death treaty.”
“I know.”
“Genuinely it would have been much better if he sold you off to the reaper.”
“You aren't making the matter anyway better.”
“I'm sorry.”
We both kept quiet for a while to let the message sink in.
“Soooo what's the plan?”
“Nothing.”
“Did you speak to your mama?”
“Ughh mama didn't say anything.”
A knock sounded on the door. Mama peeked inside and I quickly cut the call and pulled the duvet over my head.
I was mad at her and didn't want to speak to her.
“Reina my dear.”
I heard her walk closer, the bed dipping underneath her weight made me move much farther from her.
“You and I know your papa isn't the way he used to be. He is getting old and we need the deal to sign a treaty and maintain peace for us.”
That was what hurt me more because I knew there was no backing out of this and we all need this.
“Javier will reat you well.”
“How do you know that? He's a raging monster well known.”
“It was in the rules of the deal, He hurts you and we're out.”
“But then you guys are the one going to lose.”
“Familia comes first.”
Mama moved to hug me and I let her. As soon as I was engulfed in her embrace I let the tears flow yet again.
“I'm scared.”
“I know exactly how you feel, you'll be fine.”
“No you don't you and dad were secretly in love so it favored you.”
Mama chuckled at my words and placed a kiss on my forehead.
“Javier is a hot chunky man.”
“Mamaaa.”
I whined because it's weird for a mother and daughter to talk about men looks.
“You'll do okay with him I know of that, you're Reina my daughter and you cannot be stupid, you're smart, pretty and strong.”
Her words calmed me down.
“If he treats me wrongly before the contract is over, can I kick him where the sun don't shine?”
Mama laughed out loud, her voice echoing in the corners of the room.
“We will hold him down while you do that.”
Mama and I snuggled into bed.
“When will I see him.”
“I don't know of it yet.”
We remained that way till sleep took me.
