Chapter 48

1111 Words

Victor's POV The study was quiet except for the ticking of the clock and the faint hum of the city outside. Midnight always sharpened my wolf’s senses. The world grew quieter and clearer. But tonight, my mind was anything but clear. I leaned back in my chair, my phone pressed to my ear, my wolf restless beneath my skin. “So,” I said into the receiver, my voice low, “what did you find out?” Paper rustled on the other end of the line. Justin, my best friend, sounded half asleep. “Clarke,” he said with a tired sigh. “A pediatrician at Central Hospital.” My wolf lifted its head, waiting for more. “He treated your daughter about a year ago,” Justin continued. “He moved abroad afterward but came back recently to visit family.” There was a pause. “There is nothing suspicious about him.”
