Ava's POV
Victor hung up and turned, already moving.
"Something came up today. We can’t stay. Maybe another time."
Just like that, no explanation, no eye contact. He grabbed Jasper’s hand and started walking toward the exit like I wasn’t even there.
For a second, I just stood frozen. Then anger surged within me.
My wolf snapped. I moved fast, darting ahead of them and blocking their path.
"Victor, explain yourself!" I demanded, my voice sharp. "You’re the one who dragged me here, and now you’re just going to dump me without a word? Is it…"
I stopped mid-sentence as I caught his scent again. It was laced with fear and urgency.
His jaw tightened, and then he said it.
"Laura was in a car accident."
Of course… It was because of Laura.
My wolf didn’t even react this time. No surprise
