{Maisie’s POV}
I turned back to Angelo who was now looking down at the bowl of icing. He had a spoon in his mouth as he turned to me, he quickly took it out and tossed it in the sink. “This is only four ingredients, but it’s so good!” He said, smiling over at me.
“Usually for breakfast Heather has me cook some elaborate meal. Like cheesecake French toast, or German apple pancakes!” I giggled, I walked over to where the pancakes were, looking over and seeing cinnamon and sugar. I mixed them up in a bowl, and grabbed a pancake setting it down in the cinnamon sugar, coating it in it, and putting it on a plate. I drizzled the icing over it, before going through and drizzling over the syrup. I got out a fork and got a piece holding it out to Angelo.
He looked down at me, his eyes scanning over me for a moment, before he leaned in, closing his eyes and taking the bite off the fork. He groaned as he chewed it up, “This is amazing!”
I turned quickly, getting myself a bite and eating it. “I love pancakes!” I smiled.
“Can you do that to all the pancakes?” He asked, pointing to the other plates.
“Of course!” I nodded, going over and coating all of them in cinnamon sugar, before stacking them on plates, and coating them in icing, and in syrup.
He began packing plates into the dining room, I followed behind, setting plates down. Once we finished I walked over to the sink and washed up all of the dishes that I dirtied up, placing them in the drying wrack. “You don’t have to do that.” He said, his body close behind mine.
I looked up at him, smiling as I dried my hands. “I know, but I made the mess, I should clean it up.” Suddenly a memory flashed in my mind, taking me away from my senses. I pulled myself back from that place, looking up at Angelo who was now closer to me.
“You alright Maisie, you kind of zoned out for a minute there?” He asked, looking over me.
I nodded, pulling back my composure. “Yes, of course, I’m fine!” I said, smiling up at him.
An older man walked into the kitchen, stopping just short in the doorway. He was tall, lean, but muscular, with short, well groomed dark brown hair, and icy blue eyes. He looked between Angelo and me before smiling and walking over. “You must be Maisie!” He said, holding his hand out.
I shook his hand smiling up at him. “I am, yes!”
“I’m Enzo, I’m all of these wild children’s father! Sorry about my boys, they’re often a bit dangerous!” He laughed, pulling his hand back.
I nodded. “Boys can be like that sometimes, you have no idea the things I’ve seen working in a hospital!”
“I’ll bet!” He said, turning and grabbing the pitcher of orange juice. “I was just coming to grab this before breakfast, that way I can set in on the table. You will be joining us for breakfast, right?” He asked, smiling at me.
Angelo nodded, and I smiled back. “Yes, then I was going to check on Mikey and Max’s arms.” I said, nodding.
“Thank you so much, I’ll go set this on the table then.” He said, turning and leaving the room.
Angelo smiled down at me. “Sorry about dad, he can be a little awkward with strangers. He doesn’t have the best track record with trusting people.” He rubbed the back of his neck.
“No worries Angelo, I get it.. I don’t really have the best track record with that either.” I smiled, but it couldn’t hide the tinge of pain that I felt in that moment, thinking back to my awful marriage to Robert.
He smiled back at me, pulling my thoughts away from my awful past. “You want to ring the dinner bell?” He asked, pointing to a bell that hung on the wall.
I chuckled. “I guess with as many siblings as you have, you must have to do this!” I walked over ringing the bell before tuning to look at Angelo over my shoulder.
He was smiling at me, a genuine smile before walking over to me. “Come on, you can sit next to me.” He said.
I followed him into the dining room, and he pulled out my chair. I smiled over my shoulder at him as I sat down and he scooted me in. “Thank you.” I said softly.
He smiled back. “No problem.” He said, taking the seat beside me. Soon all of his siblings came rushing in, taking seats all around the table.
Margo sat on the other side of me, with Anna on the other side of her. Aurelio was on the other side of Angelo, and Enzo was on one end of the table, and Silas on the other. Mikey, Marco, and Max sat across from us. Soon everyone had begun to eat, and I could hear all of them moaning and groaning as they tasted the pancakes.
“Angelo these are amazing!” Max said, taking another bite.
“These are great son!” Enzo chimed in.
“Actually, Maisie helped me make them, she’s the one who added the icing, and the cinnamon sugar. Well, her and Anna!” He laughed, taking a bite of his food.
“These are incredible!” Margo smiled, touching my arm.
“Not as good as those cupcakes you gave us at the hospital!” Mikey laughed, before taking another bite. “But still, so good!”
Everyone happily ate the rest of their food, and once we were all done I helped Angelo take all of the dishes into the kitchen. He began loading them in the dishwasher, and I couldn’t help the slight chuckle as I watched him. “What exactly are you laughing at?” He asked, peering up at me, amusement written all over his face.
I smiled down at him. “Nothing, just.. thinking about how cute you look in that apron..” I giggled.
His face flushed with embarrassment, but then, quite suddenly a smirk spread across his face. He walked over to me slowly, amusement painted across his face, before putting an arm to each side of me, placing his hands on the counter. He leaned down closer to me, his face directly in front of mine. “You think I’m cute?” He asked.
