Icing

{Maisie’s POV} I sat Anna down on the counter, and smiled up at him. “Do you have cream cheese, powdered sugar, butter, and vanilla?” I asked, smiling up at him. He nodded. “Of course.” He reached up grabbing the vanilla, and powdered sugar from the cabinet in front of him, setting them down beside me. “The butter and cream cheese are in the fridge.” I walked over, grabbing them out of the fridge and walking back to Anna. “Would you like to help me make a special icing for the pancakes?” I asked, her eyes lit up and her smile spread from ear to ear. “Can I really help?” She asked, bouncing on the counter beside me. “Of course! You can help me get all of the ingredients together and mix them up!” I smiled back. I looked around finding a whisk, before turning to Angelo again. “Do you happen to have a mixing bowl?” I asked, smiling up at him. He walked over, towering over me, and leaning across the top of me to open the cabinet right in front of me. My heart pounded in my chest as I felt his strong abdomen pressed against my back. I swallowed a lump that was beginning to form in my throat, as he sat down the bowl with one hand right in front of me, never moving away. “Need anything else?” He asked, his voice purring in my ear. I shook my head turning slightly so we were face to face. “N-No, I’m fine..” I said, my mind racing, even thinking of leaning in and kissing him. I turned back quickly to Anna who was playing with the bowl. “A-Are you ready?” I asked, my face flushed red. She smiled brightly, nodding her head. I quickly put the cream cheese and butter in the bowl, and began hand mixing it. I stopped, looking beside me and seeing measuring cups, I grabbed the ones I needed and measured out the powdered sugar, going back to mixing the butter and cream cheese. Once it was the proper consistency I turned to Anna. “Okay, now can you start pouring in the powdered sugar, just a little bit though.” I smiled. She lifted it up, pouring some in and I whisked it. We continued that pattern until all of the powdered sugar was incorporated. I added a splash of vanilla, and handed Anna the whisk. “Okay, now mix it all up!” She went to town, mixing it together as fast as she possibly could. She was grinning from ear to ear as she used her whole body to mix it up. Once she was satisfied she handed me back the whisk. “Can I try it?” She asked. I beat the whisk against the side of the bowl, getting the icing from the center of the whisk before handing it to her. “Here, you can lick the whisk!” I smiled, sliding the icing away from her. She licked the whisk clean, giggling. “It’s so good! We’re going to have that on pancakes?” She asked. I nodded, “As long as it’s okay with your uncle Gelo, and your mother!” I laughed. Angelo chuckled beside me. “It’s fine with me, but Margo may not like us giving her so many sweets this early. Suddenly little hands pressed to the side of my leg, feeling like a tiny push. I looked down and saw an adorable little boy. He had slicked back black hair, and beautiful teal green eyes. “Well, hello there!” I smiled down at him. “Are you Aurelio?” I asked. He smiled slightly, nodding as I said his name. “I didn’t get to meet you last night, you were asleep. I’m Maisie.” I said, crouching down in front of him. “Maisie..” he repeated back, his eyes focused on my hair. “Do you like my hair too? Anna seems fascinated with it.” I giggled. He nodded, walking closer and grabbing some in his hand. He swatted it a couple of times, making the curls bounce, and fluff up more. “Fuzzy!” He said, his eyes lighting up. I giggled, lifting him up and placing him on the counter with his sister. “I guess it’s only fair that you get to try the icing too.” I said, grabbing a small spoon and getting a little bit of icing on it. I handed it to him, and he looked at it for a minute, before popping the whole thing in his mouth. The smiled that spread across his face was adorable, as he did a little happy dance. “Yummy!” He giggled, looking over to Anna. I took back the spoon and the whisk putting them both in the sink, then walked over grabbing both of the twins and setting them on the ground. Just then a younger looking man walked in the room, I had each of the twins by a hand as they began leading me around. “Um.. hi.” I said, smiling up at him. “Hi.. who are you?” He asked, looking between me and the twins. “Calm down Silas, this is Maisie, the doctor that took care of Mikey.” Angelo said, his tone stern. The guy in front of me softened, turning into a completely different person. A smile spreading across his cheeks, as he walked up to me pulling me into a hug. “So you’re Maisie! I’m Silas, I’m the youngest of the bunch!” He said, pulling back and looking down at me. Out of all of the people I’d met, he seemed like the sweetest, the only other one who hugged me besides Anna was Margo. “Here, I’ll take the twins, it’s about time to get them in their high chairs!” He said, taking the twins and leading them away. I turned back to Angelo who was now looking down at the bowl of icing. He had a spoon in his mouth as he turned to me, he quickly took it out and tossed it in the sink. “This is only four ingredients, but it’s so good!” He said, smiling over at me.
