It’s Okay

{Maisie’s POV} When I woke up the next morning I was on the couch alone, I could smell sausage, bacon, eggs, toast, and coffee all being made in the kitchen, along with the sound of sizzling coming from the pan. I began to get up when I heard a voice from the kitchen. “You told her everything? Are you crazy Angelo?” Someone shouted through the phone. “No, I’m not crazy.” Angelo said, his voice low and gravely. “I know exactly what I’m doing, I don’t want this to start out with lies.” “You finally get the nerve to go out with a girl, and you spill your guts, telling her our families secrets on the first date?” The voice shouted again, this time I finally recognized it as Marco, Angelo’s brother. “Did you even bother to think what would happen if it doesn’t work out? What if the two of you split up? Then she knows our business, do you really think that telling her everything was a good idea?” He snapped. “Marco! I’m in charge now! I’m the oldest, and dad put everything on me! I’ve been trying to keep the lot of you out of the business, but you idiots can’t seem to keep from finding more problems for me to handle!” Angelo snapped, it was the first time I’d ever heard him this angry. “I know what I’m doing here, I really want to try to make things work with her, and I don’t care what you think, nor do I need your fu***** blessing! You, and the rest of the family needs to stay out of my way, and make sure that you keep away from anyone associated with the Monroy family! The next time I hear about one of you idiots getting shot, or stabbed I’m going to be the one you have to deal with, not them!” He growled out, hanging up the phone. I heard a deep sigh, and turned to see him rubbing his temples. I stood up, keeping the blanket wrapped around me and walking up behind him, carefully placing my hand up on his shoulder. He turned, looking down at me, his eyes softening once they found mine. “Good morning.” I said softly, smiling up at him. “Good morning..” he said back, leaning down and kissing the top of my head. “How much of that did you hear?” He asked, scanning over me carefully. I shrugged. “I’m not sure, maybe all of it.. what happened?” I asked him, jumping up onto the counter and pulling him into a hug. He nestled his head into the crook of my neck, breathing in deeply. “Max got stabbed.. there was some sort of altercation, and he jumped in the middle.” He said, refusing to move away from me, instead, wrapping his arms around me and pulling me closer to him. “I don’t know what I’m going to do Maisie.. I’ve tried so hard to keep them out of this, but they keep jumping back in..” I kissed the side of his head, running my fingers through the back of his hair softly. “I’m sorry Angelo, do you want to go home? If you do, I understand, we can go check on your family.” He sighed. “No.. I want to spend some more time with you, get to know you better, and that’s hard to do with all of my siblings hanging around. They can handle themselves, as long as they listen.. which, is a challenge in itself. Let’s just, take it one step at a time.” He said, pulling back and looking at me, smiling softly. Suddenly his phone began to ring, he turned, and I could see it was Marco again. He answered it putting it on speaker. “Marco, I already told you, just stop..” he began. Marco cut him off, shouting loudly. “Angelo! It’s bad, it’s so bad!” He was crying, I could hear it plain as day. “Slow down, what happened? I just finished talking to you a minute ago, what happened between then and now?” Angelo asked, trying to assess the situation. “It’s Silas!” Marco said, at that we both stiffened. Silas was the baby of the family, he was so sweet to me when we met at their house. “He was pi**** about what happened to Max, he went looking for them. They beat the crap out of him, and left him for dead.. it’s so bad Angelo!” He cried out. “Angelo, we need to go home, come on, we’ll leave our stuff here..” I said, turning off the stove and tossing everything in the sink. Angelo stood there, unmoving, he was in shock. “Angelo, honey, I know, I know it’s scary, I know you’re worried, but you need to snap out of it. You need to call the airport, tell them to get the jet ready, and I’ll get the keys. I’m driving, you just need to come on, okay.” I said, grabbing his arm and trying to move him. I watched as tears begin to stream down his face. “Maisie, can you get him here?” Marco asked through the phone. “He’s in shock, I’m working on it, can you call the airport and have them gas up the jet? I’ll get him in the car and head that way!” I said, grabbing the phone from his hand. “You got it! Thank you..” he said, before hanging up. I ran around the house, grabbing all of the things that we brought from home with us, leaving the new clothes that we had gotten for me. I made sure everything was turned off, and returned to the kitchen to see Angelo pacing back and forth, running his hands through his hair. I grabbed the keys, our phones, my purse, and Angelo’s wallet putting everything in my bag, and running to him. I grabbed his face, pulling him to face me. “Angelo, come on, we’re going home, let’s go!” I said, making sure his eyes were on me. He nodded, unable to speak, but followed me as I pulled him outside, locking the door to the house, and pulling him to the car. Once we were both in the car, I took off driving as fast as I could to the airport. “It’s okay Angelo, I promise, Silas is going to be okay..” I said softly, looking over at him. His face was scrunched up with worry, and tears stained his face. “Margo always says, don’t make promises you can’t keep..” he whispered softly, wiping his face.
