“It is because of these humans that we cannot walk. We also cannot save ourselves in case of danger by running away as they do. This is because we use our legs to hold together the soil particles in order to prevent soil erosion that would be perilous to you and your property.
It is out of love that we do this. Otherwise, if we decided to jump out of the soil and loiter around like you humans do. I am sure you would remain with nothing. Mark you, we can do it but our assignment is to protect you even though you never seem to see it,” said one of the other trees.
Another one immediately said, “Also, we sacrifice our hands that we could use for other things to form elegant canopies for you people to take shed under on sunny days. That sacrifice is just too big.”
“Sometimes, there is very strong wind that tends to blow over the land. We endanger our lives to shield you people from the effects of such wind, including blowing off your roofs, blowing away your property and destroying what you call crops.
But still even after that, we see some roofs of your houses being blown off. Just imagine if you have destroyed all of us, what then will happen to you? What if we see the wind coming and we run away so that it hits you directly, will you have any complaints? What hurts most is that even some of us lose our lives while performing the task but still you never appreciate,” added another tree.
Another tree then talked about how they took in the Carbon dioxide gas that was toxic to man and the atmosphere yet it was released by man and his animals. It told him that the world would be in chaos if one day, the trees refused to consume the Carbon dioxide due to its effect on the ozone layer.
Kyle kept on listening to the concerns of the trees which in his opinion spoke wholeheartedly if at all they had hearts. He was very surprised by how much these trees where informed about what they were doing, even more than some humans who spend years studying geography and biology.
Another tree added, “We do nothing to you as you take away our offspring you call “seeds” and “fruits” for you people to get what to eat. Those are our young ones that must ensure our continuity yet we sacrifice them for your benefit.
You even have a tendency of taking things a notch higher by picking them up even before they are fully grown. You take the flowers for beautifying yourselves not knowing that tomorrow you will need what to eat. You are very shaming and naive.”
They also told him about how they sacrificed their little water and lost it to the atmosphere through their leaves so as to aid in rain formation. They reminded him about how the rain was important to man, animals and crops.
The tall tree said, “There is more than that and I know you know. We can also kill you and use you exactly the same way you use us to your own selfish benefits. It is not very difficult.
We just have to stop doing whatever we do to keep you alive so that you all die. We can also attack you and kill you then bury you in the soil so that we obtain nutrients from you and grow better. We are letting you go for today just to go and tell the other humans that this is the last warning. Should this happen again, you humans are in for it.”
In a nick of time, Kyle got to his feet, picked up a bag which had a g*n plus several bullets and hastily leaped out of the forest on one foot. He feared that perhaps if he delayed, the trees would change their minds and kill him.
